Nhtsa id number: 11476858 brake lights will not go off. I found white plastic nylon washer broke into many pieces in floor board mat. It is the brake pedal pad stop washer. After researching, this is a common issue with these vehicles. This defective component has a high probabilty of causing rear end collisions due to the brake lights staying on. Nhtsa should do a safety recall on these vehicles.

I had to replace the tires on this car several times in 3 years. They alarm had a glitch that the car would not start and you had to take it specifically to a kia dealer to have they alarm reprogrammed. Even upon repairs to your local mechanic. Costing them more money and me more money because they could not get in the car by pass they alarm without using kia first to reprogram it. The brakes locked up. The lights woukd go off for airbag and stay on. The anti lick brake light would stay on . . Very dangerous. I had to spend more money to because of they alarm. Even just replacing the battery in the alarm remote cost more money for the remote and the programming of the remote . You could not just replace the battery. The tires and brakes gave me several issues in 3 years to the tube of close 3000. And that's being fair.

When it is raining or after rain if there are still puddles in the road, when the car goes through any puddles the steering locks up for at least 45 seconds. I had my daughter learning how to drive and this happened to her. I should not have to worry about putting my child at risk like this especially with the price of this car. I've had the power steering pump replaced and it still does this. My esc light has been on since I got the car. So any time I hit the smallest bump or when trying to stop on a bumpy road or on snow or ice, the car locks up. The brakes go out and its like everything in the car locks up for a few seconds. It is terrifying especially when trying to stop at a light. I have never in my life experienced so many issues in a vehicle before owning a kia Rondo. I have had the whole front end suspension replaced, new tires and rims and a month later the car is wobbling again.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 kia Rondo. While driving 10 mph in the rain and making a left turn, the brake pedal was difficult to depress and the steering wheel failed to turn left or right. Additionally, while making a right turn, the failure recurred. When the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it resumed normal operation; however, the traction control and ecm warning indicators were illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 94,000.
The "esc off" light is constantly illuminated on the dash, and my mechanic could not turn it off. Sometimes, after emerging from a 90-degree turn (I. E. , at an intersection), the car's brakes will suddenly engage on their own (and usually "pump"), rendering the accelerator inoperable and the brakes uncontrollable, while the "esc off" light flashes on and off. This has lasted for as long as ten seconds, causing the vehicle to slow almost to a stop in traffic. I have searched online and found that I am not the only kia owner to experience this.

During rain, I was driving slowly up to a stop light. The brake and battery lights started flashing on the dashboard. About a minute later, a loud screeching sound started from under the hood, and then the steering and brakes locked up for a few seconds. I regained the ability to turn the car, pulled it off the road and the screeching continued for another minute or two. It stopped when I parked my car. It is currently in the shop after I had it towed.

2007 kia Rondo. Consumer writes requesting reimbursement for vehicle repairs. Consumer sent additional correspondence. The consumer stated the vehicle experienced rusted breaklines and a leaky oil pan. The consumer requested a reimbursement. Updated 10/05/2017.
Complaint: I've had my car a little under 2 years, and I continuously have a problem with the brakes and steering. I've gotten my brakes fixed at least 4-5 times since I had the vehicle. It does not drive or brake correctly when cold but mostly when it's raining or wet outside. I don't know what to do about this issue. I'm afraid of my own vehicle when driving in rain, puddles, etc. Because it doesn't stop with urgency or stay in control when I go over even small puddles. ( I don't have an exact date, I just know it's happened multipleeee times while driving).
When I brake the car in the high speed(maybe 40 miles and more in highway), the steering wheel is shaking, and I need to handle it very hard. And this situation is more serious in highway. And the airbag light is always on when I am driving.
I was pulling into driveway when I started to back up to straighten myself up so that I could pull straight up into the driveway. And when I took my foot off the pedal, the pedal was stuck causing me to accelerate at about 60mph. My car went over a tree stump resulting in me crashing into the neighbors house. While this was happening, the brakes would not properly work.
2009 kia Rondo has power steering and alternator failure during rain storms. The vehicle completely loses power steering, the brake and battery lights appear on the dashboard, and car sometimes shuts off. The car will restart, but makes a high-pitched screeching noise temporarily. It seems to happen mostly when the car is turning. I have not been in an accident yet, but it worries me to drive it in the rain (it even does it sometimes when driving through a puddle). I've seen many complaints about this on different forums, including kia. Com forums. A couple links are listed below: www. Arfc. . Read more...
During state of NY vehicle inspection it was noted that the electronic stability and abs systems were non functional. Amber symbols were on at time of inspection. Dealer reports electronic stability control and abs features are no longer functioning. Reason given: computer controlled sending unit located in wheel well and its wires are corroded. Corrosion is per dealer common with this unit and model. Parts have been ordered. However at present abs/esc no longer work. The car is now less safe without these functional devices. Your input is needed in this. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2008 kia Rondo. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the brakes were applied and failed without warning. As a result, the contact crashed into another vehicle. A police report was filed. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The approximate failure and current mileage was 33,122.
During wet weather conditions the vehicle suddenly lost power steering, braking ability and the battery indicator lamp illuminated. This has happened about a dozen times. My wife, son, and daughter have experienced the same problem in the same type of weather conditions with this vehicle. The last time it happened to me while I was in the process of making a left turn, good thing I thought quick and grabbed the emergency brake or I would have had a head on collision cause of the loss of (power steering and braking ability). Everyone in the family is afraid to use the vehicle in any weather condition since they experienced this problem.
Any time there is water on the road my car loses steering and braking capabilities. Doesn't mater if it is a small puddle or a large one. Instrument panel lights come on and a loud squealing noise happens. I took the car to be looked at and they said the shield is in place and this shouldn't be happening. I bought the car in 2010 and it started doing this in 2013.
I have a 2007 kia Rondo with a defective stop lamp switch which causes the electronic stability control malfunction light to illuminate and the brake pedal does not consistantly deactivate cruise control when it is depressed. There was a safety recall done on this part, however my vehicle was manufactured less than one month after date range of the recalled vehicles and the kia dealership says my VIN wasn't affected. I believe that to be incorrect and that I have a defective stop lamp switch that should be included in this recall. Recall campaign id#12v014000.
On 5-9-2012, it was raining heavily. My Rondo, which drove fine the day before and the day after, started making a loud screeching noise and the steering became very "tight" feeling. I pulled off road into a parking lot, and when I did experienced total loss of steering control. I came very close to crashing into the parked car beside me as a result. I waited a few minutes, restarted the car. Pulling out of the parking space, my vehicle brakes engaged suddenly without notice, and my son and I were grabbed by our seat belts as our bodies were thrown forward so hard. I was blocking traffic so I restarted the car, and it drove ok on a straight road, but when I turned, again lost steering. When I say loss of power steering, I mean with all my might I couldn't get the car to go where I wanted. The rain stopped and I had no further problems until yesterday, 6-13-12, when it had been raining again. This time, pulling onto a busy road, moving quickly due to the approaching traffic, and again lost all ability to steer. Fortunately I was able to slam on my brakes and go in reverse to get out of the path of oncoming traffic, but had the circumstances been different, my young children and I could have suffered a catastrophe. Nhtsa had two similar reports with the 2007 Rondo: internal sequence number #736xxx dated 8-23-09 and #749xxx dated 12/2/2009. I hope NHTSA and/or kia addresses this problem before someone is injured or killed. I own a 2007 kia Rondo. We bought the car new with 6 miles on it. In less than 4 years we have put brakes on this car 2 times. Our mechanic says this is a definate design flaw. The sliding mechanisms in the kia brakes collects rust inside the brake and hardens and prematurely wears the brakes. Less than 2 years ago I paid for my 1st set of brakes. Now I am replacing all 4 brakes! this will cost over $800! my front brakes are down to nothing again. This is a safety hazard! I have spoken to other kia owners and they have break issues too. You go to a dealer and they either deny it or say well that's a kia. I will keep the brakes for this replacement if you would be interested in viewing them. Another thing no parts are available so the cost are increased.
After 2 repairs at kia dealers my kia Rondo has again slammed on the brakes with no warning at all this is the third time this has happened and at 65 mph it is quite an experience. I can not believe we have not been rear ended by the other cars on the road. I have explained to two kia service departments what has happened but in both instances they installed a tail light switch and claimed that would solve the problem. I am now afraid to drive this car again. At the present time the dealer is ordering a new part but can only hope they know what they are doing this time. Please somehow alert all kia owners of this problem which by doing may save injuries or a life. Thank you.
Purchased a brand new 2007 kia Rondo 3 months ago. After the car has been sitting for 6 hours or longer the brakes squeal upon putting light pressure on them. Took car to the deal and was told this is normal.
The contact owns a 2007 kia Rondo. The contact stated that for more than three years the contact has had problems with the headlights dimming and flickering on the vehicle. The failure occurs when the rpms on the vehicle changes. The manufacturer has inspected the vehicle and stated they have no fix for the vehicle. The manufacturer told the contact that this failure would be corrected on the 2010 model. The failure mileage 20 and current mileage was 78000. The consumer believed the headlights were adjusted to high. The dealer informed the consumer that kia was aware of the problem with the 2010 model and was working on a fix. The tires were cupping in the rear, the rear brakes, battery and brake switch had to be replaced. The vehicle overheated. The vehicle would not come out of park. The dealer. The dealer replaced the brake pedal switch. The alternator was replaced. Updated evoq 02/28/11.
