The paint on my 2014 kia Sorento (snow white pearl) is peeling and delaminating across multiple areas of the vehicle, including the roof and side panels. In several areas the paint has detached completely, exposing bare metal, and rust has begun forming on the roof. The condition appears to be progressively worsening and does not appear consistent with normal wear or isolated paint damage. The affected areas are available for inspection. The peeling paint may create a road or visibility hazard if pieces detach while the vehicle is in motion. In addition, the exposed metal and developing rust on the roof and upper body areas may affect long-term structural integrity over time. This appears to be a widespread issue affecting similar kia Sorento vehicles with snow white pearl paint.
When I purchased the vehicle the check engine light came on the day after. It would come on and off as I would start and turn off the vehicle. The salesman told me that the check engine light was still on because they had just serviced it and it needed to be reset. No driving problems occurred until a year later. I took the vehicle to be diagnosed three times by three different auto mechanics. There was a recall on the vehicle that is no longer a recall. The kia dealership service department told me that I would have to pay thousands of dollars to do a engine breakdown to see what the root problem is. The vehicle will not drive far anymore so I do not drive it and I'm still paying for it.
I never received any letter from kia about this recall. I recently found out about this recall when I entered my vehicle VIN on the NHTSA website because the abs and stability control lights have been on since last week. I called kia about this (north east kia at white plains, NY) on April 24, 2023, and reported this. They said that their system was down or something like that and that they couldn't check for any recalls for my vehicle. I told them about the report from NHTSA, they said it didn't matter because they still need to see it on their system. I pushed for an appointment with service, they gave me one for Friday, April 28, 2023, at 8:30 am. I went there on that date. Oscar (the person in charge of service) told me when I arrived that their system still was with some kind of issue and that they couldn't check my car until they see the recall on their system. So they didn't check my car. I showed him a picture with the abs and stability control light on in my car. He said they couldn't do anything about it. He just told me that they will call me or email me when their system is back to normal. I am worried that something bad can happen to my car and kia is not doing anything to fix this recall. Please, help with this. Thank you.
Car was traveling from atlanta and the speed odometer on the car showed it was dropping then knock noise pull over then I made to exit and check oil guage the sensor lights never showed when I had picked up the person house I took to said it was crank sensor and started it heard knocking sound and I call NHTSA reported incident and was giving a claim number haven't heard anything since I no its recall on engine cause I had received paperwork that it was and also saw report on news.
Paint peeling on hood. Does not look like it came from a stone chip.
The paint (snow white pearl) on my kia Sorento (2014) is peeling off of the drivers side door above window. Mileage of vehicle is 116000. Started on 2/1/23.
Paint is delaminated and pealing off. Paint type pearl snow white. After researching online it seems this is happening to hundreds of 2014 kia Sorentos.
On January 8, 2023, my 2014 kia Sorento burnt up. I was driving down the street when I could see smoke and smell something burning. I stopped the car and got out just in time. It exploded and totally burnt. I have a video but it will not upload.
The paint is peeling super bad bad it to several dealerships & maaco and was told this is a defect and to report the problem.
The snow white pearl paint on my 2014 kia Sorento has started DE-laminating and peeling. It became noticeable on the driver's side door post, which has peeled and grown to a substantial area since I first noticed it. Smaller areas can also be identified on the back bumper, the hood, and several other panels of the vehicle. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. The problem has been confirmed by a certified body shop (caliber collision in happy valley arizona). Please contact for additional details if needed. Attached photos are of the damage as of 1/30/2023. Paint condition continues to deteriorate and more photos will be available tracking the progression of the DE-lamination.
White pearl paint chipping off a garage kept car that was purchased new in 2014.
I bought this 2014 kia Sorento about 2 years ago from a small dealer. When I bought it there was minial peeling above my window on my hatch. When I bought my car it was already at 169,000. Miles on it. In the last 6 months the paint has rapidly been peeling off on my doors and getting worse on the hatch. My car is currently at 205,866 miles. So in that time it started peeling off in 6 different areas. Over the winter when the first spot peeled we attempted to cover it up with a car paint in a panic afraid that it was going to rust. Although we noticed that the other spots where the paint is peeling and looks to be bare metal isn't even rusting. The thing is with these spots it wasn't starting with a chip then spreading. These spots were bubbling and then breaking and falling off while on the streets and the highway. We are very confused on why the paint is bubbling up then peeling off. After that inital tear in the bubble it continues to peel from there and get worse. Im afraid to was my car because the amount of the amount of paint that will come off. We also noticed that this wasn't the first time it has happend with my car. Like I said I bought it from a small dealer and after the right spot started peeling we started to take a clsoer look and we could see that some of the spots peeling have been previously covered up and resold. I just want my paint fixed for a mistake the manufaturer made.
The pearl white paint is coming off the car from just driving the car. It started at 75k miles and now the car is rusting because of it. This white paint is discontinued now but what about the car they used the paint on. It's like this on the hood, sides of the window and the top of the car.
It was apparent on 9/17/22 that paint on our 2014 kia Sorento was peeling off. We thought a piece of paper flew onto the roof. It was actually sheets of paint peeling off the top, back roof. The sheets were so large they could of imparted my vision if they fell into the front or back window. We plan to contact kia customer service next.
Use’s oil one quart every 1000 miles or less. 124. 000 miles no smoke or leaks. Kia knows about it but no recall.
We have a 2014 kia Sorento slx pearl white and the paint first started coming off in the front on the hood and bumper cover which we had repaired for a ridiculous amount of money. The body shop said it would be cheaper to just order a new bumper cover and paint it instead of stripping away all the paint on the old one and then painting due to the amount of labor hours required to do so. I have the bill. Then it started coming off around the door/pillar area on the driver side which we then paid again to have repaired. Now as of this week a large piece of pain has just peaked away around the size of a dollar bill on the passenger side pillar above where the door closes into. This is ridiculous that for no reason the paint is just coming off in large sections without any manipulation at all. If it's not fixed( whole vehicle being painted) the paint is just going to keep coming off until their is nothing but bare metal. I should not have to keep having all these place repaired and matched up each time more comes off. Kia should be responsible for getting this repaired.
I have a 2014 kia Sorento the paint is pealing on the passenger side door close to windshield I saw where this has been a problem it needs repainting before it gets any worse which evertime I wash it now it gets bigger please check on this and see if there is anyway kia can fix my car it only has 61,345 miles on it and this should not be happening I just bought it 3 months ago with no paint problems.
The white paint on my car started with a tiny chip within the last year for no reason (there wasn’t a scratch or dent) and has turned into a large area above my windshield that is rusting. Repair and repainting will require removal of the windshield and thousands of dollars.
I have a 2014 white/pearl kia Sorento and the paint is peeling off. I took it to a shop and was told that it is delamination and that's why the paint is peeling off. It started off looking like a rock chip but it is steadily peeling off.
I have taken my truck for repair for shacking/rattling when put truck on drive its more louder all they say they didnt find any issue what else can I do if they don't want to fix my truck.
Paint is rapidly delaminating and is causing visibility issues for my wife when paint chunks fly off the hood and onto the windshield while driving.
Paint is peeling around front window. Sounds like this is happening a lot.
Snow white pearl paint peeling from left and right hinge pillars.
The pearl white paint on my 2014 kia Sorento is delaminating from my hood, roof and side pillars. I have an estimate of $2772. 50. I have more pictures and a copy of the estimate but was unable to upload more file.
While driving on the road , sliding sunroof glass just cracked and shattered with loud sound. There was no prior damage to the sunroof nor any debris from the road that hit the car or the sunroof at the time of incident. My daughter was driving the car and was lucky that no she did not get any injuries as the sunroof shade was closed and all the shattered glass fall on the shade and not inside the car and on her face and the body.
Feb 27, 2022 is when it was observed by this writer. Now questioning what was stated when the SUV was purchased as a cpo in regards to paint. The paint on the car is delaminating. I piece came off and got stuck on the diver side window. Concerned that a piece could come off the SUV and get stuck on the windshield obstructing the drivers visibility.
2014 Sorento- exterior lights very dim. Dangerous and hard to see they go out weirdly often and randomly. Replaced lights and driver side turn signals now not working or the led strip lash out as well. Pearl white paint is chipping/peeling on hood and pillars. Emailed kia support have not heard anything back.
1. My headlights tends to keep going out, I’ve replaced them 3 times since getting the vehicle. The most recent change was a month ago. Also my car keeps making this weird humming/ purring sound which started 3months ago and is very unsettling. I had to get a new engine last February after my car cut off on me and the kids heading to my family out of town.
1) after a period of approximately a month following an oil change I am losing oil. I constantly am having to replace / add oil. About a quart every 3000 to 3500 miles. I have been unable to detect any leaks nor do I think the head gasket is blown - no smoke in other words. Yes there is a oil low warning light that illuminates. And the other major issue is. . . 2) I have paint peeling off my car a 2014 kia Sorento pearl white in color. It is peeling off the window angles on the front doors. I believe firemen refer to these as the a-posts. It is also peeling across the front top where the front windshield meets with the top of the cabin. It is also peeling across the front hood where the hood meets the grill. I have approximately 109k miles on the car at this writing.
The problem with my car is the peeling of the paint, it started happening in the front hood then it’s on my over my windshield by the roof and on the driver side also peeling never seen this on any car that I’ve ever owned I’ve also seen a lot of kia‘s on the road with the same problem are you guys doing anything about this problem I’m sure I’m not the first one to report it.
Paint delamination. Based on my research, a lot of kia Sorento white pearl color owners are experiencing paint delamination in a specific location on both sides of the front glass, we are no exception.
Paint is delaminating on both passenger and driver side columns , around windshield, and hood. Paint is peeling after heavy rain and rock impact on freeway. Color:pearl white. Inspected by autobody shop, state delaminatiom and entire car needs repainting to prevent future issues.
I was informed to report the incidence of paint chipping on this form, although it is not a safety risk. From the images I upload you can see 2 years ago (4/23/2020)there were a couple of small areas of paint chipping where the windshield meets the roof of the car. These areas to my knowledge had no previous damage to them. There are/were a couple areas where there were minor dents (not pictured) which over the years began to peel as well. However just in the last few months (mainly over the winter) those small areas and new areas of peeling have started and grown at an enormously fast rate. I'm afraid to bring my car to a car wash now as it may chip more paint away. When doing research about this model and year trying to find out how to fix this problem I found a forum called kia-forums. Com as well as a facebook group all about the snow white pearl peeling and chipping delimitation problem. While not a safety risk, this is a risk of rust becoming a problem and something I'm very concerned about not only because I plan to keep this car for a long while but if I decided to sell it or trade it in my car is now going to sell for less. As an 8 year old car I understand wear and tear is natural but this is not a natural occurrence and I hope kia will find a way to recall these cars and fix the paint delamination problem.
I was driving on the high way and took an exit. I started to smell something from my car so I turned it off at a stop light. I looked briefly at the dash but no lights where on. Then I saw smoke coming from the hood of my car. So I put my emergency flashers on and got out within seconds of getting out the smoke turned to flames so I called 911. Entire front of my car was in flames and a couple small explosions happend I believe the first one was the air bags but the second sent my hood flying upwards. My entire inside of the car was chard by the time the fire rescue showed up. There was a line of traffic behind me that stretched close to a mile since it was during traffic night. I didn’t have enough time to pull the car over safely without the risks of being inside the car while it had fully ignited. The fire men had to get people and cars away from my car. I don’t know what failed or what happens but the fire started from under the hood. The car is pretty badly burnt so I don’t think there’s a way to examine anything. It is a total loss. Upon googling I’ve noticed a few more reports of kia 2014 Sorentos catching fire. I don’t know which component caused it so I can’t say if it had been examined at all. It also happens extremely fast and I didn’t have any warning as to a fire breaking out. If I had stayed in the car to drive it to a safe clearing I would have been caught in the blaze. The only light that came on was tier pressure, which had come on a few days prior. No other warning lights came on. Not even during when the smoke appeared. The only thing that warned me was a strange odor right before I saw the smoke.
Paint delamination at multiple locations from manufacturing defect(s) not man made or acts of nature damage.
