Paint problems of the 2014 Kia Motor Sorento - part 1

The paint above the front windshield is chipping and continues to get worst with rust and paint. I've seen multiple kia Sorento just like my model with the same issue. My paint began peeling in a tiny spot I thought was a chip from a rock but rapidly began peeling all over. Kia Sorento snow white paint peeling chipping and delamination. I believe the entire kia needs to repainted and fixing one spot is not the solution!! this includes the top of the car and racks on top, mine are silver and peeling .

The paint is coming off of the vehicle. The paint peels off is not bonding to the metal at all. . Comes off in sheets . Resulting in bare metal that can rust and cause vehicle to deterioate. Vehicle is pearl white in color and this seems to be an on going issue with this color and this manufactuer of vehicles.

Vehicle has large chunks of paint that fall off and may cause a driving hazard for others. There are many reports of paint falling off pearl white Sorento vehicles. While this is mainly a cosmetic issue, debris can be an issue as people have experienced large paint chunks becoming airborne from the hood area.

Paint on our 2014 white Sorento peeled off both a pillars and the roof and we had to get the top half of the car repainted. Paint peeled all the way down to the bare metal picture I provided only got worse from there and peeled all the way up.

Paint bubbled up twice after rainy days then would go down and look normal like if nothing had happened after the rain. A few weeks later the front middle section on my hood started peeling, didn't think much of it since it wasn't too big. A couple weeks later the side of my windshield started peeling the same way (where it would bubble up after the rain) it started peeling off while I was driving. At first I thought it was a paper since it sounded similar to when a flyer is left on windshield while driving, after getting to my destination I noticed that the paint had started peeling off on the driver side, next to the windshield. I stopped by kia dealership to be told that this has been happening to kia's with the same paint color and that they just had a 2020 car that was getting rust dots, the guy at the dealership looked at my car and said I had rust dots in my trunk door, right next to the sides of the kia sign. I looked closely and he was correct, now I'm afraid it will start peeling there as well. While there they checked my warranty and was told that that my paint warranty was over.

My 2014 kia Sorento's pearl white paint started delaminating unexpectedly. This is common nation-wide for kia vehicles, especially those with pearl white paint. My vehicle was parked when I noticed the paint had peeled.

Around February 5th the paint on my pearle white 2014 kia Sorento started peeling. As time went on the paint continued to flake off of my car on both pillars and the hood of my vehicle all the way down to the base of the car. As I researched this defect I came across many other customers with the same issues and in the exact same areas on their kia Sorento specifically the 2014 model. The paint continues to come off in the rain, wind, and even a simple car wash.

2014 kia Sorento. Purchased in Aug 2020 at 86,000 miles. I noticed a small chip above windshield. Salesman said it was a rock. In Jan 2021 went to wash vehicle with a sprayer and large chunk of paint came off hood of vehicle. . Smaller chips appearing above windshield now also. . Believe this paint is defective by other responses I've seen. Kia needs to acknowledge this defect.

My paint on my kia Sorento has been chipping away. I've had this vehicle for less than 2 years, it started to chip alittle around 8 months ago, and since has gotten so bad across almost all the entire top of the windshield and slowly starting to chip all throughout the rest of my vehicle.

My 2014 kia Sorento, with pearl white paint, started having paint chip above windshield in summer of 2019, we were given a tube of paint to stop further spreading, then in December 2020, area above windshield started to spread, and area on left side of car started to chip.

The white paint on my kia Sorento is chipping. There was nothing that hit my vehicle, it just started chipping all across right above the front windshield. It looks very unsightly and this is a relatively new vehicle.

I'm the first and only owner of a white 2014 kia Sorento. The paint is chipping off on the hood, bumper and door rail/column. After doing plenty of research this seems to be a common problem with white kia Sorentos. On social media there's a facebook group (kia Sorento pearl white paint peeling chipping and delamination). This group is filled with hundreds of kia owners who have this issue.

On Thursday October 15, 2020 I was getting in my car and saw something on it. I thought it was a leaf and realized the paint was peeling off. I touched it and the paint kept peeling. Upon doing research I saw where this problem was happening in kia cars 2014 and others that were the pearly white color. It looks terrible and according to other car owners of the kia pearly white it is going to get worse. It was not due to weather like hail or any particular issue. I called kia local dealers and they had heard of it but said they couldn't do anything so then I called corporate and was rudely talked to stating they knew their was a problem but it was over 36k. I am disabled and don't drive much. This car only has 46,339 miles on it. I am wanting the entire car repainted because what I see on the complaints it is going to get worse.

The paint is peeling in large pieces from the hood and doors. It happened both times just driving down the road. There are several spots on the vehicle that are bubbling and will eventually peel as well.

The paint has chipped off in a large portion of the hood. It is not a normal paint chipping but rather a large piece/section just came flying off during driving time, approxiamtely 50 miles per hour.

Pearl pain is peeling and chipping. Went thru car wash and it chipped hood car wash paid for it to be repaired. Then on 9/15/20 it was raining and the rain chipped the paint on the door frame. Nothing hit it or damaged it I was driving but the rain peeled my paint. That's when I decided to do some research because there is no reason why my paint should chip like that and found out that the paint is faulty. I also discover there was a recall due to faulty break lines and leaks and I believe I may have a break leak because everytime its time for an oil change the break light comes on and once they put fluid in it it goes off. My upkeep has been immaculate since owning this car and all of these issues I believe are due to factory defect.

Snow white pearl paint is falling off the car. The most noticeable areas are behind the sunroof and over the driver's door.

Kia Sorento pearl white paint peeling chipping and delamination. Paint on roof of car has been rapidly chipping peeling away and is now rusting. The streak has grown about 2 inches in the past week and a half. Concerned that it will not stop and is defective and have seen several complaints for kia Sorento pearl white paint.

The paint is pealing off of the body of the car in multiple locations, most notably on either side of the windshield. This is causing the the body to rust in those locations which compromises the integrity of the vehicle.

Rapid paint peel due to delamination. It started as a tiny do then rapidly begin to peel on the panel next to the windshield on the driver's side.

This paint is peeling off in large sheets on the passenger side, starting on the windshield support and now above the second row door on passenger side.

The paint is delaminating and quickly chipping away in multiple areas of the car, but started on the windshield pillar. The body shop informed me they had seen this exact thing on other kia Sorentos and suggested I contact kia. They estimated $2,700 to repaint. My body color is pearl white.

Started in February 2020. Paint is chipping terribly and starting to rust. Top of windshield and front of car are the worst areas.

I began noticing paint chips in 2019 on a 5 year old vehicle. These spots have become larger and larger in various locations on the car primarily the hood, a frame, and roof. I have also noticed this same issue with other kia Sorento's that are also pearl white. There seems to be a defect in the paint. I know that alone may not be a huge issue but what if it contributes to another issue? there are already several serious recalls. If there is a defect in the paint, what happens if it gets too hot or something?.

Paint chipping away and rust underneath. Appears like no primer was used. This occurring still above windshield and across left to right of top cabin, at least 8� up. Started as 1-2 small spots. Kia service blamed it on being hit by something and wouldn't go further in 12/2019. I told them it was from wind shear from driving. At the time car has just over 30k, out of paint warranty. . Now it's 20 times worse. Auto collision shops agreed it's a paint defect. I went to corporate complaint and was shot down saying it's up to local kia judgment. A large portion of paint on the a pillar bubbled and came off. Paint is chipping in other places.

I have had the vehicle for about 6 months, and have been noticing the paint is flaking off. It's just beginning for me, but I did some research and noticed that all the people complaining about this issue on various kia models had tri-coat pearl white paint. Out of no where paint started chipping then peeling off on driver side upper panel above window . Then it started to peel off on front end driver side. The car has rust spots and chips. Looks like the roof will be next. The paint in continuing to peel. It's extremely thin paint and seems very dry. The car also molds easily in the trunk area.

Paint is peeling all over and rusting the car. Pearl white color.

Pearl white paint is flaking off and has delaminated on the front, side and top. Rust is forming on the front roof where the paint has flaked off. This issue with the paint flaking off is an ongoing problem and has been going on for over 2 years from today.

The pearl white paint is peeling from the car badly on both sides of the window shield. Car has never been repainted. The factory paint is peeling excessively.

Opened previous NHTSA id 11398106. Adding additional info for all. Main issue is the paint chipping and mainly peeling severely across and above windshield with rust. Other paint chipping around vehicle also, minor. Research shows this happening to mainly the 2014 kia Sorento SUV with (snow white pearl) paint color. Read your info tag on driver side door jam to verify. Mine was manufactured Aug/16/13 at georgia inc. Nhtsa has about 105 paint complaints out of 461 on the 2014 kia Sorento SUV. I read most under �structure or other� listings. There is also a facebook page for all to view and complain for �kia Sorento pearl white paint peeling, chipping and delamination�. Hope there is a lawyer out there who has this issue and can file a class action suit for all of us. Because kia won't take care of this issue. Hopefully NHTSA will see it as a issue, mainly when the peeling of paint and rusting is occurring around the windshield. This jeopardizes the tight seal of rubber holding the windshield in place. God forbid the windshield detaches while driving on the highway. Thank you all.

My 2014 kia Sorento has drastically chipped on its own the paint peels off every-time I wash my car, the paint over time has gotten a lot worse.

The paint began to rapidly peel and delaminate from the body of my car after the 36,000 mile paint warranty expired on my 2014 kia Sorento pearl white Sorento. The right side arm of the windshield area rapidly peeled and began to rust then the left side arm of my windshield began to peel , delaminate and rust . After this the top of my roof around the windshield then the hood. This is causing great bodily damage to the safety of my windshield. The kia dealership refused to help due to the mileage but this is reported on many ( pearl white kia Sorentos 2014/2015 ) I have proof and photos of over 60 kias on a facebook page I created to get this recalled by kia.

The delamination of pearl white paint began at 50,000k miles with a small piece bubbling and then chipping away. The paint on areas along the windsheild and above the windshield are now completely ready to peal. You can not stop this process by fixing only the damaged areas. All auto body shops state is must be entirely repainted. The paint is delaminating at a fast rate, all my paint is gone on the passagenger side window arm and my roof where the windshield meets the paint is mostly bubbling and rusted. The kia dealerships are aware that this particular color , made and model kia has this problem. I can not wash the exterior of my car without losing more paint. In the sunlight you can see where the paint is not longer bonded to the car. My car is expected to be without paint on my roof, hood and sides of windshields within one year if not repainted properly.
