Power Train problem #1

2022 kia Sorento. Dec 2024(previous owner incident) to new owner purchase may 2025- April 2026 vehicle keeps displaying all lights and warnings, loses acceleration & loss of throttle power while driving. High voltage code p0653 code displays. Rpm’s will go up and down while vehicle is in park. Have had an active case open with kia America escalated case specialist since Nov 2025. Vehicle has been taken to two different kia dealerships and has had this incident 7 times since may 2025 used purchase. A few different parts have been changed while working with a kia America tech over a computer, yet it doesn’t fix the problem. It was reported in 2024 by the previous owner and the dealership could not find the source. It was never disclosed from the dealership prior to reselling. My problems started 3 weeks after owning the car. Less than 200 miles. I got in contact with previous owner, the vehicle kept going into limp mode while driving & the code would clear before she could get it to the shop & they couldn’t resolve it, so she traded it back in. 1st incident: Dec 2, 2024 (previous owner) 2nd: June 6, 2025 3rd: July 19, 2025 4th: August 14, 205 5th: September 19,2025 contacted kia after and finally assigned a case officer Nov 10, 2025. Taken to shop Nov 11, 2025. 6th: Feb 22, 2026 7th: April 4, 2026 - going 75mph on a highway and having to cross 4 lanes of traffic with no throttle power.

Power Train problem #2

The vehicle’s transmission failed. While driving on the highway, the transmission began slipping and then would not allow the vehicle to accelerate beyond approximately 10 mph. The vehicle also lost the ability to reverse. My family’s safety was put at significant risk. The incident occurred on a highway with a speed limit of 70 mph and low visibility. Due to the sudden loss of acceleration, our vehicle was unable to keep up with traffic, creating a dangerous situation with a high risk of being struck by other vehicles. The dealer reproduced and confirmed the issue. They documented very hard shifting, lack of reverse, and stated the transmission fluid smelled burnt. No diagnostic codes were present. The dealer advised replacement of the transmission. No warning lights or messages appeared on the dashboard prior to the failure.

Power Train problem #3

I am reporting a serious safety defect regarding my 2022 kia Sorento hybrid (mileage: 91,661). The vehicle was diagnosed with an internal short in the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) control unit (error codes p0404, p049d). Upon inspection, significant engine oil intrusion was found inside the egr unit. The egr system is designed to handle exhaust gases only; the presence of liquid engine oil indicates a critical failure in the powertrain system (likely the pcv system or turbocharger seals) which is forcing oil into the intake/exhaust tract. Safety risk: this defect causes the egr system to short-circuit, which can lead to unpredictable engine performance, reduced power, or sudden engine stalling while driving. Any sudden loss of power on a highway poses a severe risk of a rear-end collision. Furthermore, oil intrusion into electrical components increases the risk of thermal incidents or localized fires within the engine bay. Despite the vehicle being within the 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, the dealership (suntrup kia south) is refusing coverage, claiming the egr is not a powertrain component, while ignoring the fact that a powertrain failure (oil bypass) is the root cause of the damage. I request NHTSA to investigate this "oil intrusion into egr" issue as it appears to be a systemic defect in kia’s hybrid powertrain that compromises vehicle safety.

Power Train problem #4

While driving from phoenix to tucson in midday traffic, the vehicle displayed a "check transmission" error message. Immediately following this warning, the vehicle experienced a significant loss of motive power while navigating a busy intersection. The car would not shift gears appropriately to maintain speed or move out of the path of traffic, which created an immediate risk of a collision. I was able to avoid an accident, but the vehicle's inability to accelerate or change gears left me stranded in a hazardous location. Component failed: transmission/transmission control module. Safety risk: the sudden loss of power in an intersection put me and other drivers at risk of a high-speed side-impact or rear-end collision. Warning symptoms: the "check transmission" message appeared moments before the failure. Inspection status: we have had the recall taken care of on January 25 , 2023 with 8810 miles at peoria kia initially. The incident happened on December 6, 2025 and the vehicle was taken to royal kia on December 6, 2025 for inspection. ".

Power Train problem #5

The contact owns a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle; however, the failure persisted. The contact called a mobile mechanic to the residence, and the mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with a defect in the transmission. The mechanic informed the contact that there was a recall on the model vehicle related to the transmission. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA campaign number: 22v760000 (power train); which was linked to the failure. The contact called several dealers in the area and was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was provided with the same information as the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

Power Train problem #6

My check engine light came on and my SUV started sputtering so I pulled over called my husband who came and had it towed to langdale kia of valdosta, GA.

Power Train problem #7

2022 kia Sorento under 86,000 miles is jerks intermittently but no codes are being shown. Currently at the dealership and tech suspects transmission, which has been reported by numerous consumers of this issue but the recall was only applied to certain kia Sorentos and it should be broader.

Power Train problem #8

2022 kia Sorento lx started off with rpm acceleration randomly. It progress and started happening multiple times during a ride. Took it to jake sweeney kia dealership, they were not able to pick up on any codes. They said they tried a flight recording and couldn’t record data, but not even 15 minutes off the lot the symptoms proceeded. Now the vehicle is trying to shift gears while in drive. I’ve provided videos and the dealership responded back and said, “after speaking with my manager about this situation I can't really do too much until it becomes a constant issue. I know that isn't what you want to hear but at this time without a check engine light or it happening all the time there isn't much I can accomplish for you. ” not only is this a safety hazard for myself and my child this is negligence on kia and jake sweeney kia florence.

Power Train problem #9

The engine light came on and then two hours later the entire system started flashing and the engine started stalling. The car would not accelerate and had to be taken to kia. This is the second time this has occurred. The first time, the engine froze and I could not accelerate on the highway. I barely got to the side and had to get towed to kia. Please, please investigate this vehicle and the power train.

Power Train problem #10

While driving my 2022 kia Sorento on the interstate a sudden check engine light illuminated and the car totally stalled out with a severe decrease in power causing me to almost be rear ended by interstate traffic before I could get off the road safely. After taking the vehicle to the dealership for diagnostics I was informed there was a p1c2d03 trouble code which is associated with the 8 speed dual clutch transmission indicating an internal fault in the electric oil pump of the tcu. Upon further investigation we find out this code was associated with a safety recall that went out for this particular kia model and transmission. The original owner took this car in to have the recall repaired back in 2023 without the fault code showing or any issue presenting from the vehicle. They were simply taking it in to clear the recall they were sent. While it was at the dealership they flashed the system like they were supposed to do according to the campaign instruction and sent them on their way. Fast forward to now and I am getting this same fault that the recall was sent out for but I have the code which according to the campaign instructions kia was supposed to replace the transmission due to a mfg defect. Kia is refusing to replace the transmission now saying the recall can not be reopened and since I am the second owner and my warranty is expired I will have to pay over $5,000 for a replacement.

Power Train problem #11

Thermal module went out, causing car to not accelerate when pressing on the gas pedal. Mileage at 76,000.

Power Train problem #12

Transmission loses power. Does not go foward after being in park. Have to turn off car and start it again making weird noise never heard before when it starts and when you turn it off. Has happened several times while driving.

Power Train problem #13

Vehicle lost power and transmission failed. Vehicle only has 36,000 miles. Dealer is denying recall from manufacturer.

Power Train problem #14

Vehicle jerks and goes into a neutral mode while driving. Vehicle shifter still shows it's in "drive", but vehicle stops moving. Once I drift over to the shoulder of the road, I can shut the engine off and restart. Then it moves. Twice this has happened now. Once on December 13, 2024 and again on January 24, 2025. I reported this to my dealership, gurley leep kia with the first incident and they said it was just a fluke. They did not pursue inspecting anything on the vehicle, knowing some 2022 Sorento's were involved in a transmission recall. In both incidents I was driving on an incline. My VIN currently doesn't have a recall on it, but should. This could result in a crash.

Power Train problem #15

I have gotten the notice refill inverter coolant and hybrid system failure and lost acceleration and the all power. The first time this happened was in Dec 2024 with about 60,000 miles on the car. Dealer flushed system and it worked fine until April 2025 at about 71000 miles hybrid system failure alert again, barely able to accelerate from stop light, made to a parking space just as I lost power steering. After about 2 hours to cool off car started and could be driven home. Got refill inverter coolant alert.

Power Train problem #16

I have had this happen 4 times now with my Sorento hybrid where the gas engine does engage with the drivetrain, leaving only the electric motor providing power. All incidents have occurred where I was sitting idle with the vehicle on. All incidents occurred when I had the vehicle in eco mode. 2 of the 4 incidents have warnings about pulling over immediately because the hybrid battery was nearly depleted. The only resolution I've had is to pull over or come to a complete stop on the highway and restart my vehicle. Afterwards, the vehicle runs normally. I have not brought this up with a kia dealer due to others I've discussed with saying kia does not know what is happening. The circumstances that replicate this problem are probably difficult to recreate.

Power Train problem #17

The vehicle will sometimes, after shifting from park to drive, roll backwards if on an incline, even while gassing. If not an incline when this occurs, the vehicle will not move forwards. This typically lasts for a few seconds before the transmission engages. This happens intermittently; the first time it happened to my family member, it almost caused an accident. Kia has attempted to repair this defect three times but has been unsuccessful. During the last repair attempt, the kia tech told me that they’ve seen multiple vehicles with this issue, and that it is “normal” for kia.

Power Train problem #18

The contact owns a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the engine revved without the vehicle responding as needed. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over and turned off, and restarted the vehicle, and was able to drive the vehicle to the local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that a cylinder was clogged, and the engine needed to be serviced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that later while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle started losing motive power. The contact stated that the "service transmission" warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact drove the vehicle back to the residence, restarted the vehicle, and shifted into reverse(r), and the contact heard an abnormal grinding sound with the "transmission system error" message displayed. The contact had the vehicle towed to the same dealer; however, the vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 22v760000 (power train); however, the VIN vehicle was not included. The failure mileage was 56,941.

Power Train problem #19

While parked on a residential street. I started car and put it in reverse. Car would not reverse when I applied gas. I shifted to drive. Car would not go forward when I applied gas. Repeated attempt to reverse. No movement. Shifted into drive and after applying more pedal , almost to floor, car lurched forward. In just about 30 minutes later car again would not move when reversing. It did go forward in drive the second time. The kia dealership has been dealing with a complaint regarding the car going into limp mode while merging in traffic . . . An on going problem since the car was at 25,000 miles. They have "reset" the transmission according to a recall notice but say they can not replace transmission without a "code" that verifies it is the transmission. This is a new issue but also unable to pull any codes. There is a definite safety concern with driving this car. What can I do.

Power Train problem #20

Engine light came on while driving . Solid light. Car started to vibrate and felt like it would stall. Engine has only 38,000 miles. Kia greenway certified technicians at hickory. They charged me $200 for the diagnosis. They later said the check engine code was due to bad fuel injectors, I paid $950 for that service. That day I took the car out and after 5 minutes of driving it I had to go back to kia to tell them my check engine light was on again. Now they said they had to drain the gas because the tank was damaged, they charged me $900 and $350 for the spark plug replacement, but none of that worked. The car continues to have problems and they don't know what it is. There is some defect in this car model that should be investigated because I have read on internet forums and I am not the only one with this complaint.

Power Train problem #21

I was driving on the highway when my car suddenly lost all power. I tried to brake, but the pedal went straight to the floor several times with no pressure. The car finally slowed down, and I believe the abs kicked in, causing a jerky stop. I managed to pull over, but the engine was barely idling and seemed on the verge of stalling. This was a very dangerous situation. Not only did losing power on the highway put me at risk, but I also had to wait on the side of the road at night in the rain with traffic whizzing by. When I initially checked for the problem, I noticed a strong smell of gasoline and exhaust fumes, with no other indications of failure. Check engine light is now on, and there was a warning failure but I can not recall what it said.

Power Train problem #22

The transmission and related drivetrain components malfunctioned. While driving, the vehicle’s rpms would surge into the 5,000–6,000 range without corresponding acceleration, and the vehicle would not shift properly into the next gear. The issue caused poor acceleration and inconsistent performance. The dealership later replaced the transmission and updated the ecm after identifying a fault code. My family’s safety and the safety of others were put at risk due to the vehicle’s inability to properly accelerate. The engine would rev excessively without increasing speed, making it difficult to merge, cross traffic, or respond to driving conditions. This created a dangerous situation where the vehicle could not reliably keep up with traffic flow. The issue was initially reported to the dealership, but they were unable to duplicate the concern at that time and noted no active or stored diagnostic codes. However, the problem persisted after the vehicle was returned. During a subsequent visit, a check engine light was present, and the dealership identified a fault code and ultimately replaced the transmission and updated the ecm, confirming a drivetrain-related failure. Initially, there were no warning lights when the issue first occurred. At a later point, the check engine light began intermittently turning on and off when the problem occurred. The primary symptoms were sudden rpm surges, failure to shift properly, and lack of acceleration during normal driving.

Power Train problem #23

The contact owns a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the forward camera was obstructed. The steering over corrected while turned off. The transmission was accelerating and decelerating without application. The collision control engaged without an object in the driving path. The drive-side seat belt randomly unlatched. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, who diagnosed and determined that the transmission and seat belt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted, who opened a case but declined to buy back the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 28,660.

Power Train problem #24

When accelerating to pull out of driveway and enter traffic, while struggles to find correct gear causing tires to spin and loud clunking noise. Forward collision detects objects that are not there causing vehicle emergency breaking to engage.

Power Train problem #25

My 2022 kia Sorento has 18k miles on it and in Feb 2024 the first incident of this issue occurred. I will be accelerating or driving through traffic (coming on and off the gas), the car will lurch several times, and then the gas pedal will stop working and the car loses all acceleration. No engine light or warning comes on. The car remains on, but it won't accelerate. I have to restart the car one or more times to get the acceleration to reengage. Since Feb 2024 it has happened 4 times, most recently on may 7, 2024. On these occasions I was driving 5-10mph, 30mph, 40mph, and once at 60mph. I have had all other required maintenance performed, checks performed, etc. I have taken it to the dealer where I leased the vehicle twice. They have not been able to replicate the issue. I'm not sure what this means, "is it available for inspection upon request" but if someone wanted to inspect it, absolutely it's available.   the car completely stops accelerating, foot to the floor on the gas pedal and no acceleration happens. This happened to me on 4 separate occasions at 5-10mph, 30mph, 40mph, and once at 60mph at exactly the busiest and heavily trafficked highway in my area that has accidents on a daily basis. It's extremely dangerous.   I have taken the car in twice, am scheduled for a third visit. They've kept it for multiple days both times and haven't been able to replicate the issue.   the vehicle/component has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others there were no other warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The engine light does not come on. No other warning signs of symptoms before this started happening or before each failure. The first issue happened on Feb 6, 2024, then again on March 22, 2024, then again on March 23, 2024, then again on may 7, 2024.

Power Train problem #26

While attempting to merge into 70mph traffic on the interstate, the vehicle suddenly lost all acceleration capabilities. I could have been in an accident due to the sudden loss of acceleration and eventual power to the engine. When I pressed on the gas pedal, there was no resistance and the pedal went all the way to the floor. The vehicle slowly accelerated on it's own from 20mph to 55mph without my pressing the accelerator. There were no warnings on the dash at this time. Once it reached 55mph, it slowly began to decrease it's speed without my pressing the brake or accelerator. As it started decreasing in speed, a warning popped up "check hybrid system, stop safely". At this time, the battery level showed 0 bars though it showed half full (8 bars before this happened). I got over to the side of the highway and continued coasting until the vehicle slowed itself to a complete stop at which point the car put itself in park and engaged the emergency brake and the dash displayed "parking brake automatically engaged" and the engine oil pressure warning light came on. I attempted to put the car back in drive and the dash displayed "shifting conditions not met". I turned the car off, let it sit a few minutes and restarted it. When I restarted it, the battery showed 0 bars and the display said "park with engine on to charge battery". I put it in drive and I was able to drive without any issues. The battery level went back up 6 bars in less than a minute and I drove it to the dealership. This was the 2nd time this happened. The same exact thing happened the first time and when I took it to the dealership they couldn't replicate the issue and there were no codes recorded. First incident was on 1/12/24. I immediately pulled over, put it in park and turned the vehicle off. It worked fine after restarting it. Second incident was on 1/25/24. There were no codes recorded this time either but I do have pictures of the dash displays. They are "live" photos.

Power Train problem #27

Engine shaking p03400.

Power Train problem #28

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? engine control system - yes, it is. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? check engine light came on, the car start shaking really hard, and there was a loss of power. Kia has said the car isn't safe to drive. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? no, not yet. Kia dealers are saying it'll be 3-4 months before they can inspect it to figure out what is wrong. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? the check engine light came on at the time the failure occurred. Codes are p219ff and p030400 both are tied to the powertrain.

Power Train problem #29

I was driving on the highway last night again and my 2022 kia Sorento sx prestige awd lost engine power and the check engine light immediately came on. The truck would intensely vibrate when I tried to push the gas to get over to the highway shoulder. This was extremely unsafe on a highway but I was able to pull over to the shoulder and stop the car and turn it off. When I turned it on, the check engine light remains on and vibrations persist. Even after waiting and multiple restarts. This was the fourth event of this engine issue in the past 6 months. With the same engine power loss and crazy vibrations. The three previous times, the engine light goes off after the first restart and truck drives normal. I even brought it into the dealer and they used the engine diagnostic device that showed no code so they say there’s nothing they can do. But now it’s the following morning, engine light remains on and car is shaking still. I have recordings of this event now bc napleton kia of elmhurst is not believing me. As a traveling healthcare worker, my vehicle is my primary resource. The truck barely has 17k miles on it and all maintenance and care is on point. To shell out over $60k for a ‘top of the line’ SUV that could’ve just ended my life on the expressway is extremely terrifying and disappointing. I urge the NHTSA to please look into these engine issues before someone’s life is ended because of it.

Power Train problem #30

I backed a boat trailer into the lake to load a boat. I had the car in park and had the engine running and the driver side door open about half way. After about 2 minutes I was standing behind the vehicle cranking the boat onto the trailer. The car came out of park without notice and no one in the vehicle. It went into reverse and was driving into the lake. I was nearly runover by the vehicle but got to the side. The open driver side door caught the dock and slowed the vehicle down enough for me to get in the vehicle and step on the brake. I was able to drive the vehicle out but water was over the rear tire. The driver side door is a complete loss. If the door did not catch the dock to slow it down I could have been trapped under the vehicle and drowned or the car fully submerged in the lake. Dealer was contacted. Insurance claim filed.

Power Train problem #31

Transmission keeps lurching between gears. Going from park to drive or park to reverse causes a lurch before it shifts and from what I would guess is when it goes from 1st to 2nd it also lurches/shudders. Took to dealer and service advisor said he felt it (it’s intermittent) but his transmission guy said there was nothing wrong and that he couldn’t reproduce my complaint. Kia dealer did a “reset” and nothing changed. 2nd issue is the lane assist randomly stops working and has to be turned off and sometimes the whole car needs to be turned off and turned back on for it to work again. Dealer also “reset” this system which did not fix anything. I have an appointment to take it back to the dealer, but I feel like they are gaslighting customers and there should be some awareness on these issues. My car is one year old and my rotors have also already failed and had to be turned…. There is a quality issue.

Power Train problem #32

First off, kia states that if there is not an illuminated check engine light, they cannot do anything for me …. I will post a photo of the instrument cluster if I can find where to do it. This issue has been going on for a couple months and it is steadily getting worse as time goes by there’s no rhyme or reason to why it does it just get in the car and start driving. You may make it 2 miles. You may make it 100 miles, but when it wants to it just turns itself off totally no power whatsoever coasting down the highway with nothing. Transmission is clunky as hell as well. Mostly all in low speeds like in traffic.

Power Train problem #33

The contact owns a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 mph the vehicle lost forward momentum the contact stated that he depressed the accelerator and the vehicle would not rev up or gain forward momentum. The contact stated he had not noticed any warning lights. The contact stated that he pulled off of the roadway and turned the vehicle off and on and the vehicle resumed normal function. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle had not been diagnosed and had not been repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The contact had researched online and related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 22v760000 (power train). The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Power Train problem #34

Vehicle lost power on the highway without warning. I would hit the gas but nothing would happen. Turned the car off and on a few times and after a few minutes it worked but every light on the dashboard came on. Took it to dealership who said the transmission lost contact with power steering and hybrid system. They reset the code but then 4 days after I got it back, every light on the dash lit up again and it was very jerky as I drove it. Seems like it’s the same issue as the recall from late 2022 even though online it says my car isn’t one of the ones affected when I enter my VIN.

Power Train problem #35

1)transmission keeps slipping on a car that is one year old. Typically it’s from a park>drive or park>reverse but it also happens while accelerating. The worse instance so far has been while I was pulling across an intersection and my gas pedal was to the floor and the car just froze like it was in neutral… rpms went up but car “disengaged” and I had to let off the gas and try again and it engaged. This was a huge safety issue as cars were coming at me and I was stuck. I have take the car to kia four times for this issue and they keep telling me that if there was an issue there would be a check engine light on and they can’t do anything. 2) adaptive cruise control and lane assist functions keep randomly stopping and have to be reset. 3) rotors are crap. I have had to to have them turned twice in the first year of ownership and they are making a squealing sound now for a 3rd time. There are tons of complaints about this online and kia fails to consider it a warranty issue. 4) two pieces of the car have randomly flown off… kia says there are no known defects so they won’t help. A piece of windshield cowl came off at highway speeds and a rear axle plastic guard/cover came off and dragged for awhile before I had to zip tie it up…. Again normal highway driving, no off road- no excuse for this to be falling apart and flying off where it can cause harm to other drivers.

Power Train problem #36

Received "stop vehicle immediately" warning on 5/11/23. Notified destination kia service department on 5/12/23 and was advised that if the check engine light was not on, that I shouldn't bring vehicle in. Destination kia scheduled recall service for 07/09/23. On 5/13/23, vehicle lost all power, on highway, and rolled to a stop. Vehicle stopped on a bridge, with no shoulder, and in a travel lane. Myself and three occupants were placed in substantial risk of being struck by other vehicles. Vehicle was diagnosed at destination kia and determined this was a result of transmission failure.

Power Train problem #37

Failures with power train around 12,000 miles. Code p1c2d03. Engine jumps gears and may require full transmission replacement. Upon research, there are at least nine other separate complaints of the same issue under 12,000 miles. Car was brought in a month earlier to have the front camera replaced due to a latent defect in the sensor causing forward assist to erroneously lock the brakes while driving. As an aerospace/automotive quality engineer, I am appalled that there isn't a major recall on this vehicle for powertrain failures under 12,000 miles. . Read more...

Power Train problem #38

Vehicle unexpectedly shuts down while driving posing an immediate danger as there was no warning on four different occasions.

Power Train problem #39

When accelerating onto a highway from a stop the vehicle hesitated to the point that a collision with cross traffic was imminent. This has happened 5-6 times in the year we have owned the vehicle. It is not predictable and mechanics have not been able to duplicate the problem. This happened a week ago and we were able to see the electronic stability control indicator light flash on and off as the hesitation occurred. We have had the kia dealership in joplin, mo try to troubleshoot the problem but to no avail. The dealership has installed other transmission-related updates but none have fixed this problem. We are unable to report this on the kia website due to glitches on the site such as "invalid VIN" or "session has timed out". The Sorento "features and functions guide", page 44, comments that "aggressive acceleration maneuvers" may cause a "slight time lag" due to clutch overheating in cars with dual clutch transmission. The incidents we have experienced have been associated with what we would consider to be normal acceleration needs.

Power Train problem #40

Loss of power while shifting gears for roughly 3 seconds between each gear change causing check engine light to illuminate. No issues detected by kia diagnostic check in kia access app. Believed to be a similar issue as stated in recall 22v760000 regarding power train, but has yet to result in a complete loss of power.

Power Train problem #41

The contact owns a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph up an incline in inclement weather, the vehicle rolled backwards. The contact stated that the awd failed to lock the wheels. The contact then stated that all four tires started to spin while in awd. Additionally, the contact stated that while attempting to turn on the heat, she smelled a burning odor through the vents. The contact also stated that there was an alert indicating to activate the heat in hybrid mode; however, the vent was blowing cold air. Additionally, the contact stated that previously the sensor malfunction warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was being diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 17,000.

Power Train problem #42

Multiple times I have experienced weirdness with the transmission in my 2022 Sorento phev. One specific situation has happened to me multiple times and is a safety risk. Occasionally while stopped at a red light or stop sign with a reasonable incline it seems the electric motor fails to engage and it never switches to the ice engine either. Step by step 1 - stopped at stop sign or red light 2- release brake an hit gas 3- vehicle does not move forward no matter how hard you hit the gas (doesnt seem to engage electric or traditional engine) 4 - instead the vehicle seems like its in neutral and starts rolling backwards 5 - I slam on the brakes, and then try the gas again and everything is fine. I took it to the anderson, SC kia dealer and they just told me they couldn't replicate it. It has happened to me or my wife probably 4 times over the last year. Just wanted to report it because it feels like a good chance this is eventually going to cause a wreck.

The contact owns a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled inadvertently. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where an unknown software update was completed; however, the failure reoccurred while driving 20 mph. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the same software update was completed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact later received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v760000 (power train), which she related to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was unknown.

Power Train problem #46

There was a complete loss of motive power. Myself and my passenger were on a busy 5 lane road approaching a busy intersection when the check engine light came on as well as a "stop safely immediately" message and an audible chime sound. Then the car lost power. I was in the middle lane and had no way nor time to pull over safely. Thank goodness I was slowing down for a stop light. This was the first time I had received any warnings, messages or other symptoms. The vehicle was towed into my kia dealership. They have had the car since December 6th and have not been able to tell me what is wrong. Before I received my recall letter, I had researched where other people have had the same issue and that kia was recalling over 65,000 kia's for this problem. Kia has run diagnostics on the vehicle but claims it is not due to this issue. Then on December 27th I received a safety recall for this very same issue stating that this notice applies to my vehicle and had my VIN number on it. The dealership has been waiting for kia to diagnose the problem and have no idea when I can have my vehicle back. After demanding a loaner vehicle from kia, two weeks later, I was finally given a hertz rental car that is not comparable to my vehicle and which I have to pay $14. 99 daily for insurance that kia would not pay for.

They have now had my vehicle for 43 days and still do not know what is wrong with it. I just completed a letter to kia consumer affairs as a written demand for a refund. I am calling them and filing a complaint online tomorrow.

Power Train problem #48

This has happened to this car 2 times already. First when the vehicle only had 12k miles, an mil showed up. Took it to the dealer and they said they could not find any dtc codes in there. When they gave it back to me the mil light was off. . . Surprisingly. 2nd time, 16k miles, the transmission gear was slipping some of the gears and we have never taken this vehicle to off road. The mil light came back on and also a message saying "transmission system error! check transmission oil immediately". After this message came to the dashboard , the transmission started to fail and like going into limp mode - could not drive this vehicle over 20mph. Fortunately , this issue happened during the day so I took my kia 2022 Sorento awd to the dealer. Now my vehicle is there for 4 days now and they dont know what is really going on with it. They are now talking with the headquarters engineers to see if they can figure this out but so far nothing yet. The dealer still have my vehicle trying to figure this out.

Power Train problem #49

The vehicle began misfiring while driving on the highway. The check engine light turned on. The vehicle shook violently when the gas pedal was pressed. The vehicle was unable to accelerate and required the driver to pull over on the side of the highway. This issue has presented itself several times since the original incident. After multiple visits to the dealer, the issue has not been resolved. The check engine light has been caused by code p0301 (misfire cylinder 1) as well as p0304 (misfire cylinder 4). Spark plugs and ignition coils have been replaced by the dealer, but the issue still persists. Forcing the vehicle to pull over and being unable to accelerate on the highway is risk to the driver's safety as well as the safety of other vehicles on the road. The vehicle also now struggles to start and begins misfiring when left off overnight and started cold.

Power Train problem #50

I got a kia Sorento 2022 in may of 2022. I was very happy with the car but I noticed an issue with brakes within a few weeks. The brakes would feel as if it grind on the road when pushed down on a sudden stop. A little over 5 months and I was due for an oil change, I was informed there was a recall on the transmission system and it just needed to be updated, I was shocked I was not informed, nor did I see a recall online. I figured I would mention the brake issue. Upon getting the car back I was told the brake issue was due to "debris or pebbles found. " I was told to change the rotators/pads if it continued (the car was only 5 months old?) now the car drives strange. When shifting gears the car makes a loud clicking sound. When braking the car lunges forward and the car jerks. I do not feel safe in the car. It only has under 4000 miles. It is currently at the dealership for transmission diagnosis(notshiftingproperly, leaks, other).

Power Train problem #51

Transmission will not shift or rev to high for next gear then will drop back to correct rpm an shift. Car will stall out or not shift. Problem has been duplicated at dealer. Was at dealership with no correction available at time kia engr. Advised no call back. Engine light stayed on would not reset at all dealer plus was told transmission replacements is only correction . Car had10k on it less then year.

Power Train problem #52

After applying brakes and momentarily stopping the car surged forward as if the transmission didnt properly disengage and required me to apply max force to brakes in order to not move forward. This happens every time I come to a stop .

Power Train problem #53

Vehicle not shifting properly. . Sometimes when you let off gas it will accelerate and rpms shoot up. . I believe it's a transmission issue. . Dealership was able to confirm this happened. . . Definitely not safe if a car is in front of you and it just decides to accelerate on its own.

Power Train problem #54

10/19/2022 – vehicle stuck in drive and would not shift out of drive. Vehicle towed to the dealer and not touched for a day and a half. Dealer found walnut lodged in shifter column which was preventing the shifter from going into park. Dealer also performed software update on vehicle. 10/21/2022 – picked up vehicle and it was shifting very hard through every gear, returned to the dealer for further repairs. 10/26/2022 – picked up vehicle again and performance improved but it still shifted hard and lurched when coming to a stop and when going in reverse. Dealer stated that they had retrained the transmission and performed another software update related to the transmission. I told them that I was driving out of town tomorrow morning for 10 days and that this was the only vehicle I could take and asked if they could provide a rental. Dealer stated that the current issues would not cause any long-term damage and that I could bring it back when I got back in town and that they would take care of it then. 11/17/2022 – returned vehicle to dealer to correct the previous issues, they said that they did another software update and that it is shifting properly. Performance has improved but the vehicle would still lurch when going into reverse and occasionally when coming to a stop. 12/22/2022 – returned vehicle for scheduled maintenance and safety recall for the transmission. Another software update was performed and transmission has been working without issue so far. 4/18/2024 - when driving while accelerating we experience a significant loss of power and it will not accelerate as normal. I can have the pedal nearly to the floor and it will barely move. When this occurs you can see the @ symbol flashing on the dash but no other warning lights or indicators. This is the 6th time this happened since February of this year and it has happened 3 times while on the on ramp to the freeway. This has continues to occur at least 3 times a week every week.

Power Train problem #55

Vehicle's rpm goes up but the vehicle does not move and then goes back into shift or shifts into neutral without manually doing it. It stalls and refusing to shift while driving, coasting or at stoplight/sign. It unpredictable when it's going to happen, have almost gotten hit from being since it looks like I'm going and the car is not. No lights come on and I have reached out to numerous kia services and keep getting runaround. I was told that there was no recall and looked it up and there is. Power window and reverse camera continue to not function correctly either. This care is dangerous to drive!.

The contact owns a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle was jerking and was losing motive power while at a stop light. The vehicle was able to restart, and no warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where an unknown software update was completed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact stated that the failure recurred and the gauges on the instrument panel were failing to display and that the auto start/stop function and the downhill brake control were activating and deactivating independently while driving on flat surfaces. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, where the failure could not be duplicated. The contact then stated that when she was shifting the gear into drive(d) the vehicle started reversing, and while shifting into park(p), the vehicle moved forward. Additionally, the contact stated two unknown warning lights had illuminated intermittently and that while driving at approximately 50 mph, the forward collision avoidance emergency automatic braking activated independently and caused the vehicle to swerve. The vehicle was then taken to kia of valencia (24095 creekside rd, santa clarita, CA 91355) where it was diagnosed that the lo-jack system needed to be removed; however, after the removal the contact stated that the failure recurred. The contact was awaiting another service appointment for additional diagnostic test and repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The approximate failure mileage was 13,882.

While driving on the highway, a warning message came on the screen that read "stop car immediately". After getting off the highway, the car suddenly slowed down on the major road. Fortunately, I was in the right lane and able to turn off the road into a nearby parking lot. I had to get the car towed to the dealership overnight. In the morning, a representative of the dealership drove it around their building and said he didn't notice anything wrong. However, when I went to pick up the vehicle and tried to drive it off the lot, the same message appeared again, and the car wouldn't move. I went into the dealership and got the service tech. I showed him what was going on, and he confirmed the problem. They kept the vehicle to run more tests to determine the problem.

Power Train problem #58

Code p1c2d03 possible condition with transmission control system. Kia red engine displays on dashboard,as the transmission disengages and will not engage in drive or reverse. Transmision locked up on highway and engine revved up to 5800 rpm's. Kia started to smoke and aaa towing needed to be called. The kia sits at dealership with another kia Sorento brought in a week earlier with same problem. Kia engineers are evaluating the problem since it's 2022 with 2017 miles and this is the first year with a new transmission.

The contact owns a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated while driving at an unknown speed, he heard abnormal sounds coming from the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact continued driving to his destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer where a software upgrade on the transmission was performed. The vehicle was repaired but continued to experience the failure. The contact then received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 22v760000 (power train). The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer and had the recall repair completed. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer, but the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

Power Train problem #60

The contact owns a 2022 kia Sorento. The contact stated the upon start of the vehicle, a loud, revving sound would emit from the engine while the vehicle was idle. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle would hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal while traveling at various speeds. No warning light had appeared on the instrument panel for either failure. The vehicle was initially taken to seelye kia of battle creek(791 w dickman rd, battle creek, mi 49037) where the contact was informed that acceleration issue was normal vehicle operation due to the hybrid feature. The vehicle was then taken to another dealer where they were given the same information as the other dealer. The contact stated that the acceleration hesitation had worsened and had become more frequent. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was given a case number. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

Power Train problem #61

I purchased a new 2022 kia Sorento in March of 2022. By the end of April, at 1626 miles, the vehicle started giving me a warning on the dash stating "transmission system error! check transmission oil immediately. " the problem was intermittent and the dealer was not able to reproduce it. The difficulty is that the transmission does not have a method to check the transmission oil level. I have returned this vehicle to the dealer three times for this same problem. When the message is displayed, the transmission only provides power to the wheels in the odd numbered gears (1, 3, 5, 7) and slips badly in the even numbered gears. During slippage, the engine revs to 4,000 rpm. Unknown damage has most likely been done to my transmission at this point and kia refuses to take care of their customers.

Power Train problem #62

Purchased the car new in early February 2022. Within about six weeks, heard a loud bump from under the car as I was pulling away from the driveway, this happened 2-3 times. After these incidents the car felt like it was stuck in first gear, with whining upon acceleration and deceleration. I use the car locally and the speed limit is 25mph, so luckily I didn't have to drive it on the highway. The service center asked me to wait a month for an appointment but allowed me to bring it in when I stated I believed there was a safety issue. The car at this point had just over 700 miles on it after 9+ weeks of driving. The diagnostic performed that day showed the transfer case fluid was black, had a burnt smell, and pieces of metal in the fluid, and the service center informed me this was covered by warranty and they would be holding onto the car for safety reasons. I am now in the 3-5 business day period where the service center is waiting for kia to approve the repair and hopefully provide a new transfer case within that timeframe. The service center confirmed to me they would be testing the new part before they install it. I am concerned about it breaking again if it is coming from the same place as the faulty part, and endangering my family's safety on a long road trip. This major failure in the transfer case, occurring within months of new purchase, is a major concern for the quality and safety of kia's 2022 Sorento hybrid.

Power Train problem #63

Vehicle at a red light and complete stop would not respond when I tried to accelerate. I turned car off and tried turning back on and it wasn't until a couple minutes later that car then turned back on. Dealership unable to identify problem and it happened again 2 months later with my 1 year old in the car. This time it happened while on the highway that car would not accelerate putting my 1 year old and myself in danger. Dealership again says it sees nothing wrong with the car and is charging me to test the fuel. Sounds like kia has a problem on their hands that they should address before a terrible accident happens.

Power Train problem #64

Transmission failed at 1561 miles. Will accelerate to 3000rpm do a 1-2 shift then immediately bang back into 1st. Car was flat bedded to dealer. Awaiting new transmission which is on backorder.
