Blind Spot Detection Problems of Kia Motor Sorento

2022 kia Sorento. Dec 2024(previous owner incident) to new owner purchase may 2025- April 2026 vehicle keeps displaying all lights and warnings, loses acceleration & loss of throttle power while driving. High voltage code p0653 code displays. Rpm’s will go up and down while vehicle is in park. Have had an active case open with kia America escalated case specialist since Nov 2025. Vehicle has been taken to two different kia dealerships and has had this incident 7 times since may 2025 used purchase. A few different parts have been changed while working with a kia America tech over a computer, yet it doesn’t fix the problem. It was reported in 2024 by the previous owner and the dealership could not find the source. It was never disclosed from the dealership prior to reselling. My problems started 3 weeks after owning the car. Less than 200 miles. I got in contact with previous owner, the vehicle kept going into limp mode while driving & the code would clear before she could get it to the shop & they couldn’t resolve it, so she traded it back in. 1st incident: Dec 2, 2024 (previous owner) 2nd: June 6, 2025 3rd: July 19, 2025 4th: August 14, 205 5th: September 19,2025 contacted kia after and finally assigned a case officer Nov 10, 2025. Taken to shop Nov 11, 2025. 6th: Feb 22, 2026 7th: April 4, 2026 - going 75mph on a highway and having to cross 4 lanes of traffic with no throttle power.

My key fob doesn’t register even while in car, my battery drains daily has to recieve jump off every otha day if not daily, door open indicator shows open on all doors even when closed, car locks won’t disengage automatically but your system shows no recalls something’s wrong with it.

The collision alert system is out of wack. The system is at a glitch era where as no cause prompts the alert. I am now responsible to disable all systems prior to each drive to avoid unnecessary automatic braking. The following are of concern: automatic emergency braking blind spot warning forward collision warning lane departure warning lane keeping assistance parking collision warning rear cross traffic warning.

Backup camera doesn’t work properly it gives a blank screen.

All of the adas not working. The wheel sensor right rear quit working and causes all the advanced safety systems to quit working. Had the left rear sensor to go out this year. I am 74 years old and do not feel safe driving without these safety systems working. No ergency to fix the issue. Vehicle under warrenty with 48980 miles. Have a January 7 appointment at kia hilton head and a Feb 7 at kia of savannah.

Infotainment/back up camera failure when reversing and while driving today. Kia corporate has been aware of issue since April 2021 and has yet to resolve to attempt to fully diagnose. Dealership claimed they checked "every" wiring harness for water exposure due to ongoing water issues from dash. Kia claimed they would work with me during our bbb arbitration and have had zero contact since. Car was manufacturered weeks before current back up camera recall on other 2019 Sorentos. Camera in car shows no work was done. Car sat on dealership lot on 2 different occasions for 27 days in 2022 and then over 87 days. Per kia "they can't throw parts at it" this has caused an accident and is concerning regarding backing up with children. "safety features" do not actually work for safety purposes. Kia states they are not meant for safety during recorded arbitration.

When attempting to start the car, the engine will not start and every alert system and dashboard light turns on. The car is undriveable when it does this. It takes 5-10 minutes of turning the car on and off before it stops and is drivable again. It does not happen every time and seems to be random. This has happened 5 times. An additional 6th time this same issue happened while I was driving - all of the dashboard lights went on, and every alert / warning turned on (forward collision, lane warning, etc). The steering wheel also became stiff and extremely difficult to turn. I have been attempting to work with 2 different kia service departments and their corporate escalations department without luck. They are unable to replicate the issue and are planning to give the car back to us. After seeing so many similar or same issues reported on various forums I am filing a NHTSA claim. The blind spot assist warning came on, with no other cars around, and then the engine seized. This Sorento is a 2023 and only had 29000 miles. The engine is now destroyed and kia is not upholding the warranty.

The forward collision warning system and emergency braking were engaged when no forward object was present. Amount of times 2 driver side rear quarter panel falsely detected a car swerving into my lane and engaged an emergency maneuver to avoid collision even though there was no car there. Amount of times 1.

Driving on freeway and car suddenly would no longer accelerate over 40mph. Pulled off the freeway and large amounts of white smoke was coming from the exhaust. Turned off engine, looked under the hood and saw engine coolant bubbling. Attempted to restart car and it would no longer start. The car was towed to a kia dealership and diagnosed as head bolts backing out of cylinder head causing leak and pressure with coolant and oil mixture. I was told my engine would need to be replaced.

Automatic emergency braking passenger side air bag Smart cruise control system backup camera forward collision warning lane departure warning system head lights blinked on occasion and others all stopped working at the same time which makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. Took it into the dealer and they replaced the sop module due to code b10055, acu communication error tested and found module not communicating with vehicle. To replace this part it costs me 925. 50 after replacing this part they ran another coding and found that the ods mat has internal short causing failure of variant coding. This part will cost an additional $3,287 to fix. Looked online and noticed that kia has safety recall (sc175) for 2015-2018 kia sedona for the front passenger seat occupant detection system (ods)harness which is the exact same part that my kia sorrento needs and falls in the same year built. My 2017 kia sorrento has only 56,000 miles on it. Kia dealership supposedly fixed the ccs headlights flicker failure which was a separate recall which was a multifunction switch but this did not fix the other sensors.

When driving down the road at any speed in a striaght line steering sticks requiring constant over correction. This is becoming a big problem at highway speeds as vehcile will jerk and on an icy road im affaid I my lose control.

There are two user profiles on the main infotainment system for this vehicle and there are two seat position memory buttons on the door. I am the main driver of the vehicle and have input my seat position into seat memory button #1 on my door making sure my profile on the infotainment is up and the position is confirmed. The system will randomly delete my position and the seat will move to what appears to be the factory setting. I am 5’ 2” so the seat moves lower and so far back I cannot reach the gas nor break pedals. As this has happened what seems like at least 100 times, I mention the problem to the dealer in early August 2023, they had not heard of a similar problem and they ran a diagnostic and all was fine. On Saturday, sept 9, 2023, I was in the driver seat and put the vehicle into drive. A few seconds later my husband changed the infotainment system from his profile to my profile and the seat went to the factory setting while the vehicle was in drive and I could not reach the gas nor the break pedals. Luckily I had not pressed the gas yet and we were on a flat side street and the vehicle did not move but we were in a residential neighborhood. The second problem has happened around five times with the latest incident on Friday, September 8th. I was on the interstate traveling at 75 mph with light traffic I came up on a few vehicles and noticed the blindspot detectors on both sides of the vehicle did not work while passing the other vehicles. I have also had this happen in heavy traffic with speeds in the 30-50 mph range.

Vehicle gear slipping acceleration loss with difficulty in proper control of the vehicle. Vehicle has a consistent noise that comes from the accelerator as if something was loose and vibrating. The wheels don’t seem to be moving at the same time and feels like the cars slightly moves side to side as if something in the structure of the vehicle has como off loose with sounds/ rattle coming from the passenger side and back. The vehicle has have wheels aligned and checked more than 6 times with continuous problems and no real solution from the dealers. The dealer has stated everything is fine and to go back if a light sensor turns on. They have said every excuse possible, from telling me that I don’t know to drive the vehicle to having the cops called on me to be removed from the premises . To the dealership telling me they will not check the vehicle. I have gone to 5 different dealership and they refuse to acknowledge my concern with the vehicle. I went ahead and place the vehicle on a lemon law and settled with kia stating they would validate the warranty. The problem is the dealership have told me that they have to do lots of paperwork and they have to replicate the problem, but have me drive the vehicle instead of them . They stated they only drive the vehicle for about five minutes. The service advisor at time have requested authorization from me inorder for them to drive the car. When asked for a mechanic to do the testing, ive been told they are may no be available and are working on other vehicles. I have stated the vehicle starts presenting the problem after it has been driven for a while. Again the dealership dismisses all of my claims. The vehicle doesn’t feel safe to drive and I fear a collision may happen putting my life and others at risk.

My blind spot and forward collision warnings kept going off with any vehicles in front me or in my blind spot. I was on the road by myself and they constantly would go off over and over and nothing covering the sensors.

Had been getting “bsd” disabled messages while driving on expressway for several months, dealer inspected twice and found nothing. On may 30, 2023 while driving on street rear differential locked not allowing rear wheel rotation for short period ( 2 street blocks ), then resumed operation but with a high pitch squealing. On may 31, 2023 l took vehicle to dealer requesting a full inspection of the differential, mileage at 133367. I was immediately told that the differential is a sealed unit and could not be inspected, but they recommended a transmission force flush, a complete fuel system flush, plus an oil and filter change. I agreed to service, but insisted they needed to test drive vehicle. Dealer called me back same day indicating vehicle ready. We picked up vehicle, $600. 93 cost. We were told everything checked out fine. On way home upon entering expressway just a mile away from dealer, rear differential locked up again!! we immediately pulled over to shoulder, had we been on expressway, our vehicle would have been rear ended ! I called dealer to come pick up vehicle, they sent a tow truck & vehicle was brought back to dealer. Dealer confirmed rear differential was seazed and would have to be replaced. A week later they called to inform us that the front differential/transfer case had also failed and also needed to be replaced. Two weeks later, on June 17, 2023 vehicle repairs were finally completed at cost this time of $7292. 60, totaling $7893. 53 including initial repair costs. Mileage is now at 138320, and vehicle has once again begun to display “bsd” disabled messages. Differential has been making engagement/disengagement clicking sounds as if their is a lot of backlash/slop between gears.

Screen turned off and then lights on dash started flashing. Abs, power steering, blind spot warning, tire monitoring failed. Battery light was flashing. Parking break light came on. Loss of power. Now it will not turn on.

Blind spot collision system failure ongoing off and on since 2021 alarms are a distraction while driving 70 on highway roads when it is icy kia aware of issue due to multiple cases opened.

I have only had the kia Sorento for a few months and bought it brand new. While driving normally, one of the collision warning indicators came on while switching lanes and then nearly every alarm in the car cycled continuously. These audible and visual alarms were highly distracting to drive with and it is surprising the software allows this to happen and that there’s no sensor override or silencer button. Even when the car is turned off and back on again the alarms continue. I took the car into the dealer and it sat there for two weeks waiting for kias central maintenance group to give them some guidance on what to do. They suspected a short somewhere and checked the main controller wires and one of the pins was a bit loose. After adjusting the pin they drove the car a few times and returned the car to me after it had been there for 3 weeks total. Within two days of driving it the same alarms came back. I will be taking back to the dealer again, hopefully this problem is only on my vehicle, but these Smart cars should really have a way for drivers to easily disable all the sensor based features in case this happens so at least the car can still be driven to get maintenance without increased risk of an accident. If I had been on a long road trip or in a rural area it could’ve been hours on the road driving with alarms blaring constantly and highly distracting.

Usually when raining I get a "blind spot detection canceled " notice on the dash and bsd does not work.

Here’s the deal, what I would is for the dealership to accept a fair trade of equal monthly payments on a new kia Sorento 2022. So here’s the deal I have a 2020 kia Sorento lx looking to do a even trade for a 2022 kia Sorento, same monthly payments of 540. I’ve filed a complaint with corporate about a issue I’ve had with my current kia which it has had a issue running around 4k rpm in sport mode and won’t drop down below normal ranges until in Smart mode when I brought it in for its routine maintenance they said that the transmission was just catching up to the speed? well on February 11th my wife was driving my car and the car experienced a issue were the engine was loud and car was slow an couldn’t get above 60mph. My cars drive syncup got this error code transmission range sensor circuit malfunction (prndlinput) (p0705), took it into kia east the next day, they claimed everything was safe and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it after having 3 techs look at it. On February 13th on alabama highway going 70mph my blind spot collision warning came on, car made a clunking noise from the transmission, felt like we got hit, went from 70mph to 30mph. Completely unsafe, had to restart the car an seems to run normal for now but I do not feel safe in this car anymore. The same issue I got the second time was the same code that I got the first time, I have reached out on social media to see if others have had this issue since kia should have started a investigation to determine the root cause of this issue an have had another person step forward with the same experience. This is completely unacceptable and unsafe to have to second guess a vehicle that I was ensured would be completely safe after having it looked at. I’ve already contacted corporate about the issue, they are looking into it now. I have yet to hear back from the kia general manager, they are offering to trade the car in but yet have more negative equity on the car, how about a fair trade.

Unknown. The blind spots warning sometimes works and sometimes it doesn’t. The same goes for the backing warning. The car will not lock itself with the key control or manually. This problem has happened a few times already. One of the lights at the driver side isn’t working. (inside light).

The pearl white paint is chipping off the hood. It looks horrible and needs to be fixed ASAP! the sunroof, back latch and bsd have all been “fixed” by master mechanics but they are still not working correctly. The sunroof is slow closing and won’t close all the way. The back latch won’t open most of time without you getting it started. It also makes a horrible noise when it closes. The bsd doesn’t work at all.

2016 kia Sorento-first I would like to comment on the warning lamps. I had no warnings, no lights for my oil. I checked the dip stick and it was dry. I was still good in my timeframe from my last oil change. Luckily I made it to the store to buy oil to put in it. It’s now in the shop being looked at and having its oil changed. Second, my blind spot sensor goes off at times when there’s not even a car near me.

While driving on the interstate highway for a duration of 1 to 3 hours the "collision avoidance system" faults out, lights a warning on the dash and totally stops functioning. The text warning goes away after a few seconds and a triangular warning light stays on. The system remains inoperable for the balance of the trip. Overnight sometimes the system appears to reset and everything returns to normal and the system again works for 1 - 3 hours then the cycle repeats itself. We are senior citizens and specifically bought this vehicle for this safety feature. The fact that it is not reliable is a serious safety concern.

Vehicle was purchased Aug 2020. As of Jan 10, 2021 "check blind spot collision warning (bcw) system" light came on about 6 times. If the light comes on while driving, the vehicle feels like it downshifts. Light has also come on while waiting for a red light. The bcw system was turned off the last two times the warning light came on. The last time it came on was Jan 10, 2021 at approximately 10:45pm. I was driving on a city street. The bcw system was turned off & there were no vehicles next to me. The transmission again felt like it downshifted. I have attached a picture of the warning light that came on on Jan 4, 2021.

Tl the contact owns a 2019 kia Sorento. While driving on the highway, the blind spot collision system sensor illuminated. The vehicle then jerked and stopped in the middle of the road with no other vehicles in proximity. Miami lakes kia (16600 NW 57th Ave, miami lakes, FL 33014, (305) 820-3803) diagnosed a failure with the computer system. This was the second time the failure occured. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the contact was awaiting a new diagnosis. The manufacturer had not been contacted. The vehicle was purchased two months ago. The failure mileage was 70.

Unknown shortly after purchasing this (6 to 8 weeks) rainwater began collecting and falling into the cabin from the dash area when turning. Not long after this started occuring I began to have issues with the infotainment center or other electrical items in the car sporadically restarting while driving. There was one incident in July 2020 where I called the dealership I purchased this at because we were at the beach in wisconsin and the car was off. The key was out. The doors were open and the radio would not turn off and the ac was on. I got no response from them. When I had mentioned the issues about things restarting they just said that if it was not happening at that moment they couldn't do anything. Then it started where the screens were restarting and glitching when I was backing up. As a result there was an incident where this occured. My screen (where the back up camera works) went black and the blind spot warning was not working either. I hit a pole trying to get out of a spot I was blocked in at a gas station. It all happened very quickly. Kia was contacted. It took almost 11 months for them to actually take possession of the vehicle at a dealership due to them not having loaner/rental cars or appointments available. They had the vehicle for I believe 28 days. I have documents from the dealership. Per kia I was to take it there so a tech could evaluate it. When I picked it up they said kia just told them to make sure that the back up camera works. I have provided multiple videos from various incidents over the last 3 years. This is truly becoming a safety issue. I travel 44 miles of major expressway in michigan daily each way to/from work in ann arbor. Having everything turn off/restart/being unable to control/or just not work at all is worse than texting and driving. I never know when something is going to happen https://drive. Google. I have been locked out of car due to keyfob not working. I have had trouble ooening the hatch and sunroof. Preset comfort settings ie seat, mirror, door and window locks have reverted to ones previous to what I put in for myself. The gps kept getting stuck on the dealerdship address. I had starting issues. Now I often have stopping (turning off everything) issues so then have to keep turning the car on and off to finally get the electrical things (lights, radio) to turn off. Its scary. I also have the worst gas mileage. I started iff at 12 miles. After servicing, it went down to 8mi per gallon. If it gets to 14mi and I get the car serviced, it immediately drops back down. There are serious electrical issues with these Sorentos. This is a 2014 and I just got a recall. The recall work wss done and I experienced the whoke electrical craziness again with the trunck, lights, and clock. Eventually all the lights except one came on. Dealership swears it is just a coincidence. They akso have no answer for the clock being 2 hours behind ehen thd car was returned. They ssid that checking the hecu had nothing to do with the lights, or the clock. I suspect no recalls on the ekectrical system or poor mileage will come out until the car is 10 yearx old. Vehicle is stationary most of the time. I do not drive that much.
