1 Tire problem of the 2022 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 04/02/2025

I went for my regular wheel alignment last week and was told my tires need to be replaced - the tread was down to 3/32. I only have 30000 miles on the vehicle. I called continental and was told the tires are considered a "performance" tire and therefore have no tread warranty. I bought a new set o michelin defender tires today. When I look on line, tire rack for example says the tires should be good for 65000 miles. I did not expect to have to buy new tires this soon. I am a retired safety engineer civil servant that worked for the army tank automotive command and also nasa and was involved in several tire recalls in the 1980s for firestone so I have some knowledge about tires. I rotate the tires every 5-7k and get a wheel alignment at the same time. I do not abuse my tires. I feel that continental came up with a term so they do not have to stand behind their product. I will never buy their tires. This set came oem with my new Sorento.

2 Tire problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 02/19/2025

I had contacted earlier with regard to getting clarity on the tread wear rate, and whether a faster tread wear would make the tire defective. As a replacement to that tire which got replaced, I purchased a totally new tire on Sunday, and today, this is how it looked. Is this normal?.

3 Tire problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 02/16/2025

235 r 17 104h I had a flat out tire, which led to a replacement of a relatively new tire that was bought in the middle of 2024. During the replacement process, it was found that the the tread depth dropped to 7 in 7 months or so as registered by local auto service personnel. I have been a long time driver with this type of instance happening for the first time during all these years where I had to replace the tire completely well within a year. Can a drop of 30% or more in tread depth within 7 months or so make the tire defective? assuming that the tread depth wears out evenly, which I believe should be other way with older tires wearing out faster as tread depth decreases, a 30% drop within 7 months after driving around 4000 miles or so for a tire with 50000 miles warranty place it under the defective tire section? please clarify.

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

2014 kia sorrento. Consumer writes in regards to the driver seat, accelerator and brake pedal issues. The consumer stated the very large seats were a problem for her, as they were hard to adjust. The distance between the driver's seat and the accelerator pedal, in the most forward and highest seat position, was so great, she was only able to engage the pedals with her toes. The consumer stated she could barely see the hood and couldn't see or distance the front of the vehicle. Therefore, she was forced to use both a manufacturer's vehicle seat cushion and a thick chair cushion underneath that, to be able to raise her body up and closer to the dash. Also, there was and continues to be a subtle, chirping, rhythmic sound coming from the driver's side front tire or wheel well. The service technician stated he did not hear a noise. The traction light illuminated. The consumer discovered the tires had no traction, as they did not grip the road properly. She was informed the tires were inferior, so she was forced to purchase 4 new winter tires at a cost of $ 657. 18. Updated 04/21/14.

While drive at slow speeds of about 5 to 10 mph there is a ticking/squeaking from the right front. It goes away at higher speeds. I have been in to the dealer 4 time, reported it to kia corp. And the regional office called to tell me they are aware of the noise, it is a part issue, that over 30% of this model made in 2013 have the problem and they are working on a solution. That was several days ago. If they know there is a problem then they should be made to recall the cars and replace the parts in question.

Failure Date: 07/13/2011

I was driving on the freeway approximately 70 mph when I heard a noise that sounded like a golf ball hitting the rear passenger side of the car, it was actually my tire popping. It went flat almost immediately. I took the flat in to be repaired and they couldn't repair it, I had to buy new one for $235, kia wouldn't warranty it. My car only has 5000 miles on it. I didn't run over anything or hit a pot hole or curb, it just popped.

11 Tire problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 07/08/2011

I was driving 70mph on a 4 lane highway. I was changing lanes from the 2nd lane to the left most lane. The car infront on me decelerated at a quick pace, so I had to make my lane change a lot quicker. At this point, the driver-side front tire popped and I lost control of the car. It veered quickly left and bounced off the center divide. It then traveled all the way to the right most lane of the highway and came to a stop. I believe I did not touch the brakes or the accelerator during this entire endeavor. Other cars did not hit me. The car is currently being fixed through my insurance company.

17 Tire problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 12/02/2009

On a trip from biloxi, ms to fort myers, FL- approximately 800 miles all 4 tires on a "new" (13,000 miles) kia Sorento failed. After several hundred miles of the trip the car began to shake violently and luckily was kept under control. A towtruck had to be called and the car towed to two cities before a dealership could be found to "fix" the car. This meant an overnight stay. The service dept probably didn't understand what happened! they put 2 new tires on, inspected others and aligned the car- costly service call + 2 new tires. Back to the trip and several more hundred miles and again violent shaking. Another tire was falling apart! same thing another tow, over night stay, dealer, another tire. Both dealers said they would send tires back to kumho for examination. We could not believe, but outside tampa at 10:30 at night-violent shaking. Changed the tire on the side of the road in the dark. Thank god, no one hurt. Had to order a new tire from sears in fort myers for this one. I now have mis-matched tires on my new vehicle- had to buy new tires 30,000 miles before I should of had to- had a family members life in danger, have to worry about damage done from all the violent shaking, was service work done correctly, do I still need an alignment-- it took over 48 grueling, nerve-racking hours for an 11 hour trip- with a lot of extra expenses. Kumho does not want to make us "whole" on this fiasco (we are happy though that it is not a tragedy). By "whole" we mean reimburse us for what was spent on this "mess". They don't seem concerned this is a safety issue. We hope this does not happen to someone else with worse results. You will not believe what the tire we have kept looks like. The air pressure sensors never showed loss of air and the last tire when brought to sears still had air in it. Tread is coming off of the tire and the steel belts are frayed. Please contact us so we can send you pictures of the tire. Thank you for your quick response.

21 Tire problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sorento

Failure Date: 01/11/2007

The contact owns a 2007 kia Sorento. Three days after purchasing the vehicle, the air bag light illuminated, which indicated that the passenger side air bag was deactivated. While driving between 40-45 mph, the vehicle hesitated and jerked. When the vehicle is stopped at a stop sign or a red light, the exterior lights shut off. The contact has had to strike the dashboard in order to get the air conditioning to work. In addition, none of the windows will roll down. The blinkers, turn signal, and cruise control do not work. After owning the vehicle for ten months, the alternator had to be replaced and it currently needs to be replaced again. The rails to step up into the vehicle had to be replaced twice. During a crash with a deer, both the driver's and passenger side air bags failed to deployed and the seat belts did not work. As a result, the passenger sustained a broken arm. On two occasions, when the vehicle was taken to the dealer, the contact was informed that the tires needed to be rotated and aligned. On the third occasion, she was informed that the vehicle was out of warranty. Since owning the vehicle, she has been to the dealer several times with many complaints, but they have never made any repairs. A Hyundai inspector stated that the entire vehicle was out of specifications. The failure mileage was 600. Updated 09/23/08. The consumer hit a deer and the air bags did not deploy and the seat belts did not perform as they were designed. The transmission would delay in shifting and would not shift in the correct gear.
