general problems of the 2014 Kia Motor Soul - part 2

Headlights flicker on and off when using turn signal, sometimes while just driving. Sometimes they turn completely off and don't turn back on unless I flip between auto/manual. This has been happening for a few months now and is getting worse. This is incredibly dangerous and I am worried for my safety if I can't get them to turn back on. I work at night and absolutely need my lights to work. I drive main roads and back roads and on the back roads when they go out I can't see anything. Until I get this sorted out I've resorted to not using my turn signals at night, which is dangerous in itself/illegal and there's also the fact that they turn off/flicker occasionally while not using the turn signal. Though that seems to be the most common trigger. I have no idea what is causing this but it seems to be extremely common in 2014 kia Souls.

Kia Soul 2014 vehicle head lights flick and burn out continuously and beam lights burn out, even after replacing bulbs.

For the past three months I've been having issues with the headlights and bright lights on my 2014 kia Soul. I have been experiencing the lights flickering and sporadically turning on and off until recently where they will not come on at all. I have been researching how I can fix this issue by going to kia dealerships, and looking online for a solution. I have come across several youtube videos as well as online help suggesting that it is a known issue with this car. It is said to be an issue with the switch and/or the connector that causes the problem. I've changed the bulb as well as the fuse with the same issue. I'm getting tickets due to this being an issue that is not an easy fix. It's scary to drive distances with children in the vehicle and not knowing if the lights will turn on or off.

Everytime I fill up my gas tank my fuel meter will go below empty and will blink that I am out of gas. After about a day or so it will go back to normal. This has happened since I bought he car. I have talked to a few other kia Soul owners and they all have the same exact issue. I am wondering if this is getting looked into and investigated.

On December 9th, 2018 at approximately 6:10am, while driving to work on the highway, my car suddenly broke down and began to smoke. I pulled over to the side of the road and removed my important belongings. Within minutes my car was on fire. I notified city police, fire department, and insurance company. My car was ultimately destroyed and taken to a junk yard.

I had to get new headlights at the dealership. It is now getting ridiculous. One head light will not work. It will come on when it feels like coming on. Sometimes it comes on. Sometimes it will come on right away others times it will flicker on off and not work at all. It is dangerous because I drive home in the dark and I dnt want to get filled over. I also drive in dark roads and it makes it hard to see when only one headlight works. I am now noticing that is the working in the car not my headlights.

When using a turn signal with the headlights on, once the turn signal releases, the headlights will flicker and often go out completely. This happens in town, and at highway speeds. It is dangerous at night, when the headlights are necessary.

Complete engine failure - 11-5-18 - all lights came on and car died in the middle of a turn. All oil was gone from engine. Car cannot even be manually cranked. Seems to be exact same issue discovered with same year 1. 6l engines, but wasn't included in recall as a 2. 0l engine for whatever reason. 3 mechanics have quoted me a $10k repair including an entire new engine. No salvage or used engines available anywhere.

Headlights keep randomly flickering off and on while driving. Started out just when I had my lights on auto and had the turn signals on. Last night they went out on their own while I was driving down a dark road for several seconds. This is very dangerous and seems to be a common problem.

Headlights flicker on and off when I first turn on the headlights. There is no rhyme or reason to when it happens. It is usually fast on/off flickering. This is very dangerous and happens without warning. Most times the car is in park but I am concerned that this will become worse.

Tl the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact smelled exhaust fumes and burning wires inside the vehicle. The instrument panel lighting was also flickering. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 69,000.

While my vehicle was in motion the interior and exterior lights went out for about 20 seconds. They also go out at different times, on city streets and highways. This has happened on multiple occasions, the most recent being on 08/05/2018.

When I drive my Soul in the dark with my headlights on they start flickering and then they just go completely out. Sometimes it's small flickering and sometimes it is completely out and dont come back on for several seconds. Today I had to turn them off and back on twice before they would come back on at all. This is extremely dangerous when it is dark. Especially driving on a curvy 2 lane highway in the dark like I do. At first it happened when I used my turn signal, but now I dont have to do anything and they flicker and then go on and off.

When headlamps are in automatic mode, they will sometimes flicker on/off, or turn off completely until headlamp controls are manipulated (by turning headlamp power switch dial back and forth or by pulling/pushing low/high beam control). This is exacerbated by driving on an unstable road (I. E. A road with potholes or bumps), when actuating signal light controls, and when stopping. This happens mostly when the vehicle is going at speeds over 40 mph, but has happened in city streets at velocities as low as 5 mph. This has happened several times over the course of the last months, beginning around August 2018.

While driving the car the headlights flicker and sometimes go off randomly. This has now begun to occur while the car is also parked. This is highly dangerous while traveling at night and a huge safety risk.

At night headlights and dashboard goes or flickers while driving down the road. Other people got the same problem of it happening. We all get told that they can't make the problem happen so they can't fix it.

Headlights flickered/ went out while driving at night on interstate. Had to break suddenly, rainy ,had the wipers going, radio on, gps plugged in to auxiliary plug. 7pturned the nob on the steering column on /off, headlights came back on. Went to the next exit. Stopped at traffic stoplight, right blinker, foot on brake, took foot off brake to make right turn, made steering wheel turned to right, lights flickered again. Happened on 3-23-18 9:30pm . Took to my mechanic today 4-1-18 - tcb auto in dallas GA, battery fine,bulbs fine, fuses fine, 3 weeks ago had oil change, new tires. Could not diagnose it. . Advised me online many reports ,even kia doesn't know how to fix it, ifafter bulletin,no recalls yet. . . Put in this report. .

I bought my 2014 kia Soul used with one previous owner. As I was driving home on the freeway after purchasing it my lights began to flicker. At times they would go out for a few moments. I had to pull over and have my husband drive in front of me with our other vehicle in fear the lights would go out and I wouldn't be able to see the road ahead. I could of been in a serious crash. Also came home to a dead battery one day because my lights which were off when I left the house randomly were on when I got home that night.

Right headlamp began flickering while driving. It has since failed completely. Bulbs have been changed and the issue persists. Does not matter if vehicle is in motion or driving. Approximately 65000 miles.

Driving on freeway or street, interior and exterior lighting to headlamps flicker on and off when using turn signals. They will stay off sometimes this is dangerous.

While driving on the highway, the dash board started turn off and on the car began to lose power. I pulled off to the side and the lights on the dash came on and the car shut down completely. Within a few minutes smoke started coming from the hood of the car followed by a small fire. I got out of the car and the fire grew and completly burned the car.

The headlamps began to flicker and then shut off. The lights would go out while driving the vehicle. After shutting off the car and all lights on the car, the lights continued to flicker occassional and frequently enough to drain the battery. Nothing I did would make the dash lights and flickering lights go out.

The contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that the headlamps began to flicker and then shut off. The failure occurred whenever a turn signal was in use. The contact would have to switch the headlamp switch on and off in order for the headlamps to illuminate. The rock river Ford dealer stated that there was no recall regarding the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 60,900.

Car randomly start vibrating, misfiring, and it would not increase in speed. It would be difficult to turn on from a cold start. The the engine failed, sent it out to the dealer to work on it under warranty, and we've had an open case since. Then recently my son was driving the car while in motion on its own the engine shut down while driving, making is highly unsafe to drive.

This vehicle was parked prior to the incident. The 2014 kia Soul had been backed into parking space number 28 and pulled forward midway through the space where it appears the car was put back into park. It was here the occupant of the vehicle, mr. Keith nash perished in a fire that consumed his 2014 kia Soul while taking his life. The 2014 kia Soul has an open NHTSA recall 20v-750 and would have been eligible for settlement in the kia engine class action settlement. [xxx] (c. D. Cal. ) (https://kiaengineclasssettlement. These reports go into great detail of this event. Based on this manufacture, and their parent company Hyundai’s history of non-collision fires and the hundreds of prior complaints on file with NHTSA, one might speculate that while in motion mr. Nash noticed smoke from under the dash and put the car back into park. An engine fire can go from nothing to fully engulfing a vehicle in seconds, and as documented with these vehicles rendering the electronic door lock inoperable (as noted in the [xxx] incident in the rented 2019 kia Soul). In a panic he placed his foot on the accelerator causing the motor to rev to a high rpm. It was noted in the report he seemed distorted and unable to escape, this is to be expected. This 2014 kia Soul would have been one of the 13,114,339 vehicles recalled for non-collision engine fire according to the center for auto safety Hyundai/kia fire and engine recalls 2010-2024 report, updated on March 28, 2024. Kia was aware of this incident as well as the owner’s insurance carrier allstate insurance, yet they both failed to fie a complaint with NHTSA. This behavior is inexcusable and jeopardizes the safety of every american on the road and in close proximity to these manufactures’ vehicles. When making a turn of changing lanes when turn signal is set once it resets all lights turn off or high beams flash turn on/off and have to move or play with turn signal handle for the lights to turn one again. Note while driving on freeway and changing lanes at night I set the turn signal to change lanes and when it reset all lights turned off leaving me driving in the dark and my family safety was at high risk. Something is wrong with turn signal handle causing a short, note that some times instead of lights turning off the high beams flash on/off.

With headlights turned on. Headlights sometimes will not come on. Can happen to each headlight independently. Sometime going to high beam will make low beam come on when switched back to low beam. Seems to happen more when cold. This happens while sitting still or while moving. Vibration doesn't seem to make a difference. Lights do not flicker. The just won't come on. Lights have just gone off and will not come back on. Let sit they will come back on after turning light switch off for period of time.

The left headlight would work on and off. I had the dealer check it and they replaced the headlight on 12 Dec with a sylvania headlight bulb I provided. After a while the same issue happened again. On 13 Jan 17 they replaced the headlight again. This time with a kia bulb. . Same issue. I had more issues with the lights working sometimes and not working. The light went out again and I took it to the dealership again and this time they found a short. The problem happened when the vehicle was moving and also when it was stopped. Sometimes it would be working when I parked but would not work when I started the car back up again. It was amazing that the dealership didn't trouble shoot the issue the first time. They said the warranty was invalid after we changed the bulb with a non-kia bulb. The dealership confirmed the first replacement bulb was compatible with the kia Soul.

I bought my 2014 kia Soul with 6 miles on it Nov 2013. I have had nothing but problem after problem with my headlights turning off when I use my turn signal or after using my turn signal. I have taken it to the dealership to have the same problem fixed. Finally big red sports & imports took a kia Soul off their car lot (after my 3rd trip there & they still didn't have the part) to put a new part in my car to fix the problem. I still had problems with my head lights so I took my kia to a different dealership. Now my car won't go into reverse at times,and while I'm "trying" to put it in reverse my automatic locks start locking an un-locking really fast. I have to turn my car off, and try to start all over so it will go into reverse. I have also already had to have the battery replaced. My worry is my safety when driving at night with my head lights wanting to work when they feel like it. Or if I get stranded somewhere because my car won't shift gears.

Tl- the contact owns a 2014 kia Soul. The contact stated that stated that the headlights did not work properly, faded in and out. The contact stated that sometimes only one headlight was on. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the failure was due to an electrical failure. The contact took the vehicle to a second independent mechanic who checked out the electrical sockets and diagnosed that the right socket melted while the left socket had burned out 50 per cent. The technician documented his findings and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to a third independent mechanic who visually noted �an electrical short�, and also stated that the right socket burned 100 percent and that the left one was almost burned out. The technician stated that it was a manufacture defect and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the winn kia of fremont, dealer, located 5633 john muir dr, newark, CA 94560, where the technician stated that there was no recall and scheduled appointment for a diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and provided a case number and told the contact that someone would call back. The contact stated that no one called. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 36,000. Fe.

Taking a day trip to the crayola factory, we were 10 miles from our destination when we first smelled smoke then saw it coming in through the vents and from the front passenger corner of the vehicle. I first checked the gauges to see if it was over heated, nothing. Popped the hood and that's when we realized it was on fire. We raced to get the 2 small kids out of the vehicle as the flames were starting to over take the front hood. We were able to secure the kids and get far enough away from the vehicle but 3 minutes later the car was gutted. Nothing but metal left on the inside. We had no warning that something was wrong while driving the car, no engine light, no overheating - just smelled and then saw smoke. We were lucky we had a place to pull off on a busy highway. I was told by the police officer that I'm lucky that I turned off the car and opened the doors before the locks malfunctioned as he has seen in other kia cars. My hope is that kia can find the source of the fire and do a recall before anyone else is faced with this nightmare. I reported it to kia via social media, but they seemed more concerned on how to take my pictures off rather than fix the issue.

The vehicle hit a tree at an unknown rate of speed. The seat belts functioned, and the air bags were deployed. The vehicle caught fire immediately or shortly thereafter. Two bystanders could not open the doors because the door locks were still engaged. They had to break the glass, manually unlock the doors, then open them - the doors functioned normally after unlocked. It is my understanding that the door locks were supposed to disengage when the airbags deployed - they did not.

Flickering lights on off while driving at night turn signal triggers it and does it randomly.

I was approaching a traffic light and the light was green and traffic in front of me was moving. I must have take my eyes off the car in front of me and the green light for just a few seconds and when I looked ahead the car in front of me had stopped at the turning light and I ran into the back of it. Never even had a chance to hit the brakes. My car had a lot of damage to the front half but the airbag never deployed.
