Loud pop in the engine while traveling ~70 mph. Car began to lose speed, check engine light turned up, then smoke started coming from the engine compartment. Pulled over to middle median on I-75 n and the engine compartment started on fire with 20-ft high flames. The car was fully engulfed. Usaa has claimed the car and began a fire inspection. A/c had been off at the time of the pop. Only the radio was on.
Loss of engine power, the car was towed to a nearest dealer for diagnosis and found that catalytic converter was defective.

My car has been stalling for the last 6 months it had a recall on the catalytic converter due to overheating, resulting in abnormal engine conbusion and damage to the engine pistons. I have taken it to the kia shop for an upgrade and that did not work.

Vehicle rendered inoperable due to a thrown rod. Engine connecting rod failure. Vehicle was in motion at approximately 55 mph and without warning popped and failed. The vehicle wouldn't run correctly afterward and required a tow.
Currently my gas milage has decreased by approx 4 miles per gallon. In the winter I get 30 mpg and used to get 34; in summer I get 32. 5 mpg and used to get 37. Things checked: brakes tires and alignment air filter engine codes gas quality ( used mobil premium gas) performed a carbon cleaning for gdi eng fuel system cleaning engine cleaning with oil cleaning (flush) additive. After all cleanings only slight improvement (approx 0. 5 mpg). I suspect a faulty cat converter but have no way to check it.
This vehicle was parked prior to the incident. The 2014 kia Soul had been backed into parking space number 28 and pulled forward midway through the space where it appears the car was put back into park. It was here the occupant of the vehicle, mr. Keith nash perished in a fire that consumed his 2014 kia Soul while taking his life. The 2014 kia Soul has an open NHTSA recall 20v-750 and would have been eligible for settlement in the kia engine class action settlement. [xxx] (c. D. Cal. ) (https://kiaengineclasssettlement. Com/checkvin). A copy of the sharonville police report, [xxx] is attached along with the sharonville fire department incident type: [xxx] to this vehicle complaint. These reports go into great detail of this event. Based on this manufacture, and their parent company Hyundai’s history of non-collision fires and the hundreds of prior complaints on file with NHTSA, one might speculate that while in motion mr. Nash noticed smoke from under the dash and put the car back into park. An engine fire can go from nothing to fully engulfing a vehicle in seconds, and as documented with these vehicles rendering the electronic door lock inoperable (as noted in the [xxx] incident in the rented 2019 kia Soul). In a panic he placed his foot on the accelerator causing the motor to rev to a high rpm. It was noted in the report he seemed distorted and unable to escape, this is to be expected. This 2014 kia Soul would have been one of the 13,114,339 vehicles recalled for non-collision engine fire according to the center for auto safety Hyundai/kia fire and engine recalls 2010-2024 report, updated on March 28, 2024. Kia was aware of this incident as well as the owner’s insurance carrier allstate insurance, yet they both failed to fie a complaint with NHTSA. This behavior is inexcusable and jeopardizes the safety of every american on the road and in close proximity to these manufactures’ vehicles. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Revision to original complaint filed August 16, 2024. Consumer location should sharonville, ohio photographs indicate vehicle appears to be in drive (d) not neutral (n).
My 2014 kia Soul which I leased for 39 months in July 2014, just had a recall for a faulty gas pedal that may fracture under excessive pressure. Its great that I am getting the problem fixed for free but I am very disappointed in kia and the main reason I chose kia was because they are one of the safest cars out there. I have a four year old daughter and I chose kia because of her and wanted her to be safe while we were driving. To learn that since the day I leased my car which is almost a year ago, I was driving my daughter around in a car that could have potential caused her injury or worse is very due to my gas pedal breaking is alarming to me, my daughter is the most important and precious thing to me in my whole life. I do not feel that fixing the gas pedal for free is enough and that something must be done to make up for all the times I was driving my daughter in a vehicle that I thought was very safe when it was not. I would like permission to get out of my lease so that I have the freedom to get another vehicle that is safe for my daughter. Anyone with kids should know exactly how I feel and will sympathize with my situation.
My 2014 kia Soul ! has had 2 codes, p1326 which is related to a knock sensor detection system (ksds) which has ties to a known rod bearing issue. And a p0420 code related to the catalytic converter. There was a lawsuit which led to a recall issued for this vehicle, however, it appears only for 1. 6l engine. Mine is 2. 0. Just basic online searches have discovered an overwhelming amount of other owners of 2. 0 also getting the same issues with there's as well.
We were driving 75 mph. On I-75 outside dalton georgia in lots of traffic (the outer lane) at which time the vehicle lost all power and shut down. We gradually coasted to the side of the road avoiding near crashes and stopped completely. We tried restarting the vehicle and it would not start. After about 10 minutes the vehicle restarted but had no power to drive. We were towed to a dealership in dalton georgia and the service people looked at the vehicle on 8/18/2014 & said they could find nothing wrong. We proceeded on towards our destination. On 8/16/2014 (the same day they found nothing) we had traveled approximately 161 miles further south on I-75 (outside macon georgia) when the car did the same thing. It shut down driving 75 mph in major traffic. Our vehicle did the same thing as it did on 8/16/2014, loss of all power. We were then towed to macon georgia kia dealership. On 8/17/2014 they informed us they were replacing a "pressure pump" and should receive it 8/18/2014. The dealership installed the pressure pump and had the technician drive it for approximately 30 miles and it shut down on him. At this point they were unsure of what to do and did multiple test on the vehicle. We were advised to leave the vehicle there and they would get it back to us. We returned to ohio in a rental vehicle on 8/22/2014. Our car was transported back to ohio 9/3/2014 by the kia company with no further findings. When the dealership contacted me to let me know my vehicle was being returned and they found nothing else they stated that a 2014 kia Soul on their lot did the same thing during a "test" drive. I am deathly afraid to drive this vehicle since I had my life flash before us 2 times and a 3rd time on the technician.
4 times wile driving the engine started to smoke so bad the cars behind had to stop. The very first time was 6 weeks after we bought the car. Took it to the kia dealer they recreated the issue and said that the problem was a flaw in the engine head. Kia said I had to wait till they make a recall. 3 months after that issue it happened again, we were sitting in an intersection when a truck was going to hit us. I flored the gas and a bunch a smoke came out it boged but we got out of the way in time. Kia took the vaulve cover off and it looked like tar. How can that be posible when it was not even driven the first 3,000 miles for the oil change??? we are paying for a car that has been sitting in my drive way for over a year now. To scared to drive it.
