One problem related to air bag knee bolster has been reported for the 1997 Kia Motor Sportage. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While backing out of garage and without prior warning air bag knee bolster went off without physical contact blwe out dash and parts of the steering column under the steering wheel. Dealer notified stated it was not under warranty and would not repair it.
