Six problems related to engine have been reported for the 1998 Kia Motor Sportage. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Consumer states valve cover gasket is inoperative.
Was driving vehicle at approximately 40mph on highway when it suddenly died out for no reason. Had vehicle to towed to dealer. Unable to restart right away.
Vehicle will not accelerate under normal operating conditions. Dealership has worked on vehicle several times since 1998, and has not been able to repair vehicle. The consumer states that the fuel injector, head gasket, wiring harness and transmission had been replaced. However, the problem still exists and the vehicle was a lemon or defective.
The consumer has been experiencing problems with engine valves . Engine check light continues to stay illuminated. The consumer stated vehicle has been serviced for the same problem 4 times.
The vehicle vibrates when at idle. The vehicle has been taken to the dealer but they were unable to locate the problem.
Premature wear of flywheel. Due to failure vehicle will not start. Dealer has been contacted.
