Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problems of the 1998 Kia Motor Sportage

Seven problems related to front suspension wheel bearing have been reported for the 1998 Kia Motor Sportage. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2004

While driving 20 mph and when applying the brakes a thumping noise was heard coming from the passenger side wheel. Consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic replaced wheel bearing.

2 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2002

While driving the right front bearing seized to the hub. The consumer contacted kia who informed the consumer that there were no recalls for wheel bearings and/or spindle.

3 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 07/12/1999

Failure due to faulty seals(leak)rusted out bearings, unsafe to drive.

4 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 01/01/1999

Had SUV into shop about 7 times for wheel bearing. Once on a recall for bearing also had brakes fixed because of bearing. Failed two state inspections due to bearing. Had a recall for exaust.

5 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Failure Date: 01/01/1999

Wheel bearings loose rusted which caused brake dust to gather. Dealer replaced bearing rotor and pads in front, front wheel bearings, and front wheel brake pads. Nlm.

6 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

Consumer had recall for the rear axle and bearings remedied in 08/99. According to dealer's diagnostic, the components have failed again ,and could cause wheels to become detached from vehicle while driving.

7 Front Suspension Wheel Bearing problem

While driving at 75 mph brakes completely failed, consumer was informed it was due to wheel bearings had worn.
