The contact owns a 2007 kia Sportage. While driving 60 mph, the accelerator pedal locked up and would not release. As a result, the vehicle would not decelerate. The contact slammed on the brakes and slowed the vehicle down to 25 mph through a red light. The vehicle rolled into a parking lot and was still moving when the contact shifted the gear into park. She applied the emergency brake in order to stop the vehicle. The dealer stated that a piece of plastic from the accelerator cable failed and caused the accelerator pedal to lock.
