general problems of the 2023 Kia Motor Sportage - part 2

I purchased this car in October of 2022 it is less than a year old, this weekend the windshield spontaneously cracked on the lower passengers side in a straight thin line and has gotten bigger everyday, now exceeding 12 inches. The windshield was not impacted or hit in any way, the cracking occurring with no explanation and now requires a full replacement. . I believe I am not the only one having this problem and it’s a recall waiting to happen. I called the dealership to alert them of the problem and was hung up on twice, I am in the process of getting the car inspected and a replaced replaced by a glass repair shop/ my insurance.

On a hot day, I noticed an oily bluish fluid leak underneath my pedals. I brought it to the dealership to diagnose the issue twice already but they found nothing was wrong. I posted the photos of the leak on a facebook group that owns the same model of my car and found out that some owners have the same issue. I just wanna make sure that this is not a defect on the same model of my car because that fluid leaking might start a fire or might cause the engine to seize anytime during use.

The windshield from passenger side to center spiderweb crack. It looks to originate in frame of car. Nothing hit windshield. I see a few others having same problem.

God morning for the past several months my computer screen flickers back and forth while driving. Cuts off then on off then on. We have tried to get the dealership to see the problem but while with them it doesnt happen until afterwards. Need some help before we take the next steps with kia.

The vehicle has always had a bit of a breaking issue especially in cruise control. In may had an incident where it slammed on the brakes so bad that everything in the backseat flew up to the front. Again the driver did not break. I went in for it to be repaired which took several weeks and spent 5 hours at the dealership. Two days later the car completely shut down and I had to have it towed to the dealership and they will not give me any answers. I do not think I will ever feel safe in the car again. Loved the car but if the safety issues do not work and I could possibly be in an accident and other people, that is a major safety issue.

Engine stalling multiple times while in drive. After vehicle stalls, engine shuts off, multiple lights start flashing and beeping and message states- 'engine off! shift to p or n then start engine. ' engine will reengage after following display instructions. This creates a safety risk to driver and others behind driver when error occurs. 2 weeks prior to first failure, engine light appeared, but was not flashing. Kia informed, but could not schedule for service for 14 days. Dates of occurrence: 5/17/2023 ( 2 times), 7/28/2023 ( 3 times), 8/23/2023 (1 time) vehicle with kia dealer for repair 5/17 to 5/29, 7/28 to 8/18, and 8/23 to present. No current eta for repairs. None of the repairs has corrected issue.

In the afternoon, when the sun is at the perfect angle in the sky, it shines in the through the window, onto the glossy center, console gearshift panel and reflects sun right into my eyes. Several times I have had to close my eyes/look away abruptly. I find it extremely hazardous while I’m driving. . Whenever the sun is at that angle, I have to find something to lay over the console so that it doesn’t reflect into my face or keep my hand where the sun is shining on it. All of the high gloss finishes should be matte.

We have called 3 dealerships kia that is and our recall for the brakes is about 3 months or so old. We were told that they will not look at any cars for this because parts are not available but other cars like ours are thin in also how can a recall happen when there is no parts isn't that a must when a recall is this dangerous they will not even schedule appointments and this has been 3. 5 months. And now I read that an oil pump recall may affect ours and we cannot park in a garage due to it may burn the house down, this one has not been confirmed but no one will let us know about the oil pump catching fire or what vehicles it is for but I have seen its for 2023 ki Sportage all models. How crazy is kia not taking care of customer and we only have 13,000 miles on our 2023 kia Sportage awd xline. Thank you larry rowland 1402 w 17th st unit a claremore oklahoma 74017.

I have had several problems with the windshield of my kia Sportage. First off, it has a terrible glare or distortion while driving at night. I think it has to do with the elements inside the windshield. Secondly, the windshield cracks with even the slightest hit from anything on the road. I have had my car for 5 months and have received 6 chips to my windshield. Two of them happened when another vehicle was driving the opposite direction down the road. Three of them happened when I didn’t have a car or anything anywhere around me. One of them happened when an 18 wheeler was driving next to me with no other cars around. I’ve seen in the kia groups several other owners are complaining of the same problems. I don’t think these windshields are safe.

The part of the sunroof that moves when opening, spontaneously exploded while on the highway. Nothing hit the car to cause the explosion. Glass rained down on me. The car has 5,000 miles on it and there were no other cars around me that could've caused debris to hit my car. There is a huge hole in the sunroof now and the whole glass is shattered.

My warning light & description for check awd/4wd started coming on after the first road trip. It then came on everytime I drove the vehicle. Now the dealership service department is dealing with the main kia maintenance to determine why the light comes on every time the vehicle is driven, even half a mile.

Jack daniels kia, fairlawn, NJ. The following kia Sportage door lock failure is not being fixed. I bought a brand new car on 4-10-2023. My VIN 5xyk33af9*** I purchased my new 2023 kia Sportage on 4-10-2023. Unfortunately, the day I drove home after the purchase, the door locks didn't work. The door lock lights blinked but didn't lock or unlock the car doors. I also could not manually lock the car from the inside. Sales said I should keep the car in my garage. However, the service depart said it could be at least 3 months or more before they could check the vehicle to fix the door locks because Kia Motors had something to do with the manufactures computer. Hey!! I just bought a brand new car. Unfortunately, I can't get a straight answer from jack daniels kia's service dept. At least a solution that I understand or makes sense. A brand new car malfunction should be a #1 repair priority. Unfortunately, at jack daniels kia service, it's not.

I was driving to work and suddenly my front windshield cracked. Not only did it crack, but it scared me as it sounded like a shotgun had gone off.

The contact owned a 2023 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the vehicle hydroplaned all 3 lanes on the highway. The vehicle hit a retaining wall, the vehicle bounced back, spun around and faced oncoming traffic head on. An oversized trailer crashed into the contact's vehicle head on and pushed the vehicle into the middle lane where it came to a stop. The driver’s and passenger’s side air bags did not deploy. Unknown if any warning lights were illuminated. However, the vehicle's system contacted 911. A police report was filed. The contact was taken to the hospital via ambulance due to sustaining severe injuries to the left shoulder, collapsed lung, chest abrasions, nerve damage to the abdominal area, nerve damage to the lower back and a brain injury. The contact recently had surgery on her left shoulder. The vehicle was towed to a local towing yard. The insurance company was contacted and deemed the vehicle a total loss. The contact hired an attorney who hired an engineer to check the black box inside the vehicle and found that nothing was recorded. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.  .

We purchased a new 2023 kia Sportage a month ago (January). There are several issues we’ve encountered. One week after purchase, the doors on the vehicle would lock on it’s own and we weren’t able to unlock them. The key fob nor trying to unlock the doors manually would not work. At times, we weren’t able to lock or unlock the doors and had to do it remotely from the kia app on the phone. I spoke with the salesperson and manager from the dealership on two separate occasions. I was told to change the batteries in the key fobs, but the problem continues. The second issue is that we noticed the back seat on the driver’s side popped forward. At one point, the seatbelt warning would alarm when no one’s sitting there. The third problem is the airbag warning sign illuminating which started today. This is a major concern. The kia service depart where we purchased the vehicle said it could be 3 months or more before they could check the vehicle. I called another dealership and they’re going to see service the vehicle next week.

The rubber piece on the arc above the wheel popped off while I was driving. It got caught under the car damaging the under carriage. I was going about 40mph and close to my destination to pull over. If I had been going at a higher speed, or there were other cars around me, or I was on a highway this could have been much worse. I don't know how a car part just comes off like this.

I only had the kia 2 months when a crack formed at the top of the driver’s windshield. Soon after the crack spread across the entire windshield surface area.

I was driving to christmas eve service and heard a very loud explosion from the top of 2023 kia Sportage. I then started hearing air coming from my panoramic sunroof. I pulled to the side of the road to inspect, and found that my sunroof had basically exploded.

The battery dead without unannounced. I turn the vehicle off and later did not turn it on. I was on a cold night. The vehicle was stopped and turned off when I tried to turn it on again; did not turn it on.

Numerous times our awd system has failed to work at all and reverts to standard fwd, even while actively driving down the highway in a blizzard! kia has had it in the shop a minimum of three times for this same issue since we bought it earlier this summer. Now that winter has come it’s even more of a danger! the problem comes and goes and you never know when it will stop functioning.

When starting car from behind stopped, the car would not speed up when pressing gas pedal and felt like stalling, but slamming on gas pedal jolted car to speed up again. If there were cars around, this could have been very dangerous. Car is in the shop now for mechanics to determine exact cause.

The vehicle has lost acceleration twice and one of those times, it was a hazard to other drivers and put my safety at risk because it loss power in the passing lane on a major highway. The car shut off and I had to restart it about 8 times to get it over to the side of the road. Each time there was white and black smoke, the car would shake and just shut off. The car has been in the shop once before and they think it was a cylinder misfire and they said they fixed it. This is the second time it is in there. The car is still under warranty. Other times it has been for several recalls. There were no times that the car would do this, no symptoms or messages. This is a safety hazard for other drivers and puts the drivers life in danger. This is not what a new car experience should be.

My husband and I own a 2023 kia Sportage that was purchased on may 11th, 2022. The car has barely 1700 miles on it, and in mint condition. My husband and I were at a stoplight turning left when all of a sudden we heard a loud explosion, almost like a shotgun. It was so loud my husband and I could physically feel the loud gun shot, and truly scared us to the point where we thought it might have been a drive-by shooting. We didn’t notice any damage at first until we pulled over and saw the start of the panoramic sunroof (near the front windshield) shattered completely. There currently is no recall on this issue despite the hundreds of reports. I am unable to drive my car as the front windshield can crack/explode at any moment.

When traveling over the mountain when the sun is coming up or going down and it hits the windshield at an angle the wires for the heated windshield creates a rainbow across the windshield making the driver unable to tell where the lanes are or if there are vehicles in front of or merging. This has happened to me on 3 different occasions. I have not noticed it after the sun is already up. Just rising and setting.

I had an incident happen in September 2023. As usual, I parked my car in reverse (r), and after that, I shifted it into park (p). Then, I released the brake, and the car unexpectedly reversed, resulting in an incident where my bumper got dented. Later, I found out that others had experienced the same problem. I'm confused whether it was due to the brake or shifting into park. They told me there is a brake booster problem as well. However, I'm puzzled as to how it happened since there's been a recall for other models in the same family group as my kia. Since that day, I've been following up with kia, but they are asking for a police report and insurance information. I'm still driving the car in the same condition until they repair it, and they have only replaced the brake booster. This incident marks the second time my brake booster has needed repair. Thanks.

It would be easier to explain to someone over the phone as there are a lot of details. Phone number is 8135177176 kia did look at it after when I went in for oil change as I tried to get ahold of corporate. I tried to explain to police also. I have a screen shot on the original day where it shows in the kia app that the problem was showing in the app at 10 am because it had not updated since then and it was around 10 pm.

While driving 30-40 mph most of the advanced driver assistance system warning lights came. The check engine light, service light, etc also came on. There was a notice that kept flashing do not drive vehicle. This has happened on three occasions. There were zero issues prior to this. On one occasion I was driving on a two lane mountain highway and had to continue driving the vehicle because there wasn't an emergency lane nor pull off. Having all the warning lamps flashing was extremely nerve racking and frightening. The vehicle has been at the dealership for two weeks. I'm told that a national ticket has been opened and there are no updates available as of this writing(09/01/22).

This vehicle is equipped with an extended dual-screen display. Purchased in June 2023, two weeks after purchase, the right half of the display screen keeps on and off. This can be very distracting while driving, especially at night. The kia car dealership "Buick GMC kia greenbrier" has been informed of the defect and has performed a diagnostic. They stated the entire assembly will have to be replaced.

I purchased a brand new 2023 kia Sportage x-line March 23, 2022. When I turned the a/c on, very warm air was blowing from the vents even though a/c button was on and temperature was set to low meaning cold air. The air rapidly became burning hot to the point it would burn your hands when placed by the vents to test the air. I had to shut it off. Opening the windows did not help, the weather was in the 90’s, and summer had arrived!! it was like driving in a sauna trying to breath. I took it to the dealer, problem reproduced. Service contacted kia engineers; they suggested replacing the ac hose-discharge. The part was extremely difficult to find but he was able to locate the only one available in the u. S. The part took a week to arrive and the install was done. Service called to tell me he discovered the original part that came with the vehicle (hose) had a leak at the top by the crimp and the replacement hose has a leak at the bottom by the crimp! a/c still does not work, only for burning hot air. Okay so now we have to order another hose and try again. There are no hoses availbale anywhere in the us!!! they are on backorder for 4 to 6 weeks or more. Apparently I may not be the only one with this a/c problem and kia might be trying to figure out how to resolve it with either a service announcement or a recall. The problem seems to be in the manufacturing of the hoses if brand new vehicles are shipped to the dealers this way. So my brand new car once again sits in the driveway not knowing when or if it can even be fixed and I certainly can’t afford to pay for a rental vehicle up front out of pocket, this 2023 Sportage is paid in full--cash!.
