The design of the backup light is awful. There is a single light that is about two inches long and an inch high under the license plate. When you back up in a parking lot like at walmart, other drivers cannot see the light and keep driving by like you are not moving. We have had several close calls because of this. Kia should be forced to change the design.

The contact owns a 2019 kia Sportage. The contact stated that the high beam headlights failed to illuminate as designed. The contact researched and learned of an undisclosed technical service bulletin concerning the failure with the halogen bulbs on the 2020 kia telluride. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed. The dealer confirmed that the VIN was not under recall or covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.

Engine light came on flashing on the dash. Went to o’reily auto shop to get it checked and their scanner discovered p1326 code, “knocking sensor” and oil light came on and flashing as well. The motor oil was replaced about a month ago. Checked the oil dip stick and it was below the first dot.

My check engine light has been on for some time . It will go off for a day and a half and then come back on . I was told by one garage that it was the catalytic converter. I have 99,339 miles on . It was tuned up and the light had gone off until the next day . Runs good and body is in great shape . I’m disappointed with this since it’s not covered ! and my lights are not working , the garage said it was a bad connection .

I recently purchased this vehicle. Only after purchasing it did I realize the unsafe/hazardous location of the backup light. The backup light, located under the rear license plate on the rear bumper, cannot be easily seen by oncoming vehicles, promoting the chance of a rear end collision. It would have been more reasonable to locate it within the area where the housing for the turn signals, warning flasher and brake lights are located. There is a blank wedge within that housing that could be replaced with clearly visible backup lights. I don't feel safe backing-up in this vehicle and am asking for remediation of this non-feature. Please advise me how I can protect myself and those approaching my new vehicle. I'm an avid user of turn signals and careful driving. This needs to be the concern of kia designers and advisors. I'm surprised that this was not caught by your administration. Please advise.

The dashboard with all the instrumentation goes blank while driving causing loss of all instrumentation gauges and headlights shut off. This has happened repeated times since the car was purchased new in June 2024 and has been in the service department since October a total of six times. They have replaced fitments, the dashboard cluster, the phone charging pad and have done multiple software updates and it continues to go blank while operating. The dash then lights back up with system check and all the instruments lights in dash glow and it stays like that for several seconds. I am repeatedly told they cannot recreate the problem to properly diagnose so they have been cherry picking solutions to fix and it’s dangerous to drive. I have filed a complaint with the nc attorney general, a bbb auto complaint, a complaint with the manufacturer directly and they are telling the dealer to return car to me because they can’t recreate the problem and so in their opinion nothing is wrong when I have video of this happening while driving. Please help me.

The infotainment screen goes out randomly while driving and can stay off for the entirety of the trip. That includes the speedometer, check engine light, fuel gauge, etc.

My 2011 kia Sportage had a recall #23v65200. On [xxx] my radio started smoking and my headlights would not shut off even with car off and keys out. You had to unplug cable from battery for lights to go off and not run battery down. I called kia in bloomington indiana they said to not drive and call customer service to have towed. I called on [xxx] and talked to a lady, she was very rude and dismissive. Said they would not tow due to my kia being a 2011 it was to old and they would only tow if above 2015. She then said I had to pay and only if the lights and smoke was because of recall they would pay. But I did not know or have extra money for this and nowhere in our papers about recall does it say it had to be a certain year to tow, only to stop driving and call. So my disabled husband drove it to the dealership in bloomington on [xxx] and dropped off even though they were at risk. I did not hear anything from kia and called to make sure they received auto. They had said they found my car and did not know it was there on June 19th. My husband told a person there he dropped it off and I guess they didn't get messages. After having my car and me telling them what had happened they then said they fixed recall but would have to run a diagnostic for them to see if the other problems were because of it. Bloomington then said they could not say it was not because of the recall this happened they did not know. So they sent my car to headquarters to engineers is what bloomington told me. Did not hear from them again until July 19th stating again they were not sure. And we had to pay for diagnostic check of 195. 00. On Aug 6th they messaged us and said they found issues but it was not because of recall. And we would have to pay roughly 2500. 00 to fix, yet they stated my washer fluid was fine when in fact it is not hooked up, line broke. How is that? I said I was going to talk with someone and get back with them. My car is still there. Not once did they offer information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information.

After driving my normal route, I stopped at a red light, before light went green, the car shut off. No lights on the dash, completely blank. The car was in drive, and foot was on the brake. There was no brake lights, flashers would not operator, the horn did not work and I could not move the car. The car was dead. After a few minutes stranded the car decided to start again. This has happened no less than 6x since I have owned this vehicle in similar situations. I have taken it to the kia dealership where I purchased it and it has been inspected and kept for days multiple times with the result always being "nothing is wrong".

My kia Sportage 2017 headlights malfunctioned by flickering on and off and the screen and dashboard lights went totally out while I was driving on the freeway at night. This happened five times in the span of 30 minutes and each incident lasted approximately five to ten seconds. My car is available for inspection upon request. My safety or the safety of others was put at risk. I worried my lights might actually go out totally, plus drivers on the freeway would be confused and distracted; it might blind them, or possibly result in road rage. This issue has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer nor have the lights been inspected by anyone yet. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the repeated failure. This problem with 2017 kia Sportage has been reported by others on the internet. Kia, the manufacturer, would not admit to me there is an issue with the lights flickering and the dashboard going black nor what might cause it. They said I could submit a claim for reimbursement after my kia dealer’s service department gives a diagnostic on the vehicle. I have been issued a kia case #. It would be a great benefit to know the cause and the remedy from other kia vehicle owners that have been repaired. The earliest service appointment available with my kia service dealer is October 25, 2023. I am not able to drive my car in the dark until this issue has been resolved. This is a great hardship on me because I am a widow and the sole driver in my household. Thank you for looking into this. I look forward to your response and information.

The stop lamp switch was recalled & mine was replaced in 2010, but the part they replaced it with was faulty also and I’ve been driving without brake lights for years without knowing it. Then when I contacted kia escalated customer “service,” they double-talked and gaslit me.

Headlights have started flickering. The dash lights and radio also went out completely and came back on after a few seconds.

The battery dead without unannounced. I turn the vehicle off and later did not turn it on. I was on a cold night. The vehicle was stopped and turned off when I tried to turn it on again; did not turn it on.

I am writing because this is an accident, just "waiting to happen. " I buy a new car every 3 or 4 years. I purchase every option, and even purchase the extended warranty package to 7 yrs, because of all the electronics in newer cars. I have never noticed on any of them, what I believe is an unsafe driving condition, until now. On my 2020 kia Sportage. . . At night, when dark, and you turn off either left or right. . . For some reason, the light does not follow you. . . It stays focused straight ahead. So, for some seconds, you cannot see, until your car straightens out again. This, I believe is a safety issue. If there was something, in that blind spot few seconds, you would hit it; a child, a biker, a large hole, an animal or some unexpected thing. . . Because it is impossible to see until the car totally straightens again. Accidents happen in seconds. I drive very slowly in turns, since I realized the bad decision someone at kia made with the lighting package on this car. . . . . But with that extra caution I take, I realize also, that someone coming behind me on the turn, could actually run into me, not expecting me to go slow as I turn off left or right. . . . Much slower than I would in daylight. I have called kia service and the 800 customer service number as well. . . They just refer you back and forth. The computer monitor says," bootloader started insert usb with file" nothing on the screen works. It never shuts off. Even when the car is off and the keys are out of the ignition. It kills the battery. We have taken the fuse out and it shuts off but I can't use the hatchback. It stays in the locked position. I also can't use the power locks. I took it to a kia dealer and they could not figure it out. They sent me on my way.

My 2017 kia Sportage was purchased in 2016 and does not have any recalls showing under my VIN number for this issue but I have all of the signs of a serious malfunction and the dealer won't respond. My car has less than 23k miles on it, I barely drive it because I work from home and all of the abs warning lights are on including the abs, hill descent, tire pressure, traction/stability control, emergency brake light. My dashboard light to check tpms also pops on the screen consistently and there is a weird smell coming from my dashboard. My husband is a certified mechanic for largo Honda and he claims it is a safety issue in the vehicle that should be recalled. In addition to this issue, my windows will not go down and this will be the third time I have to take the car to the dealer to get fixed in the short period that I've had the car.

Recently I had a car accident , my car breaks failed to stop when I was driving, my kia was giving me alerts with tires presures, needs a lt s ide brake lamp replaced in multiple times, brakes rotators been changed, smell of burnt cable insulation, can you investigate if it could be related to the recalls nks twice,.

My kia Sportage is having major electric issues with the usb device and radio also lights delay to come on when I turn off vehicle weird sound comes from what sounds like the dash area also when I take my key out of the ignition it still makes the dinging noise like the keys are in the ignition and the door is open and when I shut my hatch sometimes it causes my lights in the back to flash on definitely something wrong with the electrical system and I definitely don't feel safe with my vehicle like this I had did some research and there are other kia models with electrical recalls for catching fire and other things I hipe kia will do something to make my vehicle ok and make me feel safe while in it im have issues when parked and in motion.

The rear lights are turned on for night driving they all blink randomly as well as rear license plate light.

My lowbeams do not work. The lamps have been replaced and still don't work. There is no info in the owners manual identifying the fuse or module that controls the lowbeams. I contacted kia's consumer assistance on March 22, 2019 (case# 13097019) with a 48 business hr rep return contact committment. I just received it today, April 27, 2019, advising me to take to dealer for diagnosis and to contact them after the diag so that they can speak with the dealer to help ressolve. No idication that they'll pay, or do a courtesy repair. Electrical work can be expensive. This in my opinion is a major safety issue, with no recall. The internet is loaded with this same issue on various kia models. Please assist me to resolve this issue. If I receive a repair citation, I cannot afford lengthy and expensive diagnostics and I'll have to park my auto and cannot work as I work after dark.

Tl the contact owns a 2009 kia Sportage. While the vehicle was being driven, the esc warning indicator illuminated and remained lit. The vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 13v114000 (service brakes, hydraulic, exterior lighting); however the failure recurred. Smithtown kia (726 middle country rd, st james, NY 11780, (631) 724-8008) was contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 53,000.

I purchased my 2018 kia Sportage ex brand new 6-8-18. Less than 100 miles on the car and the dashboard instrument lights went dark while driving on the highway in the dark. I brought it back to dealer, they had to order a new gauge dimmer cluster because the original failed. Several weeks later the brakes began violently shaking the car when braking on the highway. Again, I brought it back to the dealer and they resurfaced the brake rotors due to warping. Several months later on 1-28-19 the engine died on the highway placing the vehicle into limp home mode. I almost got hit by a tractor trailer trying to get to the breakdown lane without ample engine power. I immediately drove it to the dealer and it has been there ever since. I got the bbb involved now and I am trying to get the lemon law in place. I am currently in a rental.

Fmvss 108,table I-a, daytime running lamp (drl), device activation requires that drls be "automatically deactivated when the headlamp control is in any �on� position. " on the 2017 kia Sportage the drls remain on with the headlamp control in all "on" positions. This gives the appearance that the high beams are on all the time. Opposing drives have flashed their lights at me to indicate that my high beams were on when they were not. This creates tension and anger in both drivers. I was even stopped once by the police because of the high beam on appearance. Since these light fail to meet fmvss requirements, kia should initiate a recall to remedy the problem. Given the commonality of systems manufacturers use in several vehicle models, other kia models may be similarly affected.

2011 kia Sportage at times won't start but all lights and radio and electrical stuff work. Had new battery put in and checked out it is not battery. It is doing this more and more and I have to let it set for long periods of time then it will start. It can't be boosted off either when this happens. It started and has never stopped. Please help.

Highlights to bright, can not drive at night without getting high beam by most cars that pass.

Takata recall; can pull car into park or drive without applying brake. Took to pelham kia to be fixed due to recall but they never fixed it. Desperately need fixed.

My kia Sportage air bag light on the driver side won't come on for a few seconds. It won't come on at all. I have read other people complaints about their air bag light. There is a problem and it needs to be recalled. Kia dealership need to stop putting it on the owners expense. My husband spoke to someone at the kia dealership concerning the air bag light and he was told they need to put it on a machine to analyst the problem. I'm sure they already know about this problem ? to analyst it is going to cost us some money. Why ???.

2006 kia Sportage ex with v-6 has a habit of completely shutting down electrically, killing the engine and thus all lights, power assist to steering/brakes, etc. Previously this occurred only when taking off from a stop (previously reported). This time our daughter was driving at highway speeds at night in the middle of utah when this occurred again. She was able to get it off the highway safely without incident in complete darkness and no power assists. Car was running on cruise control so no driver function could have caused the incident. No warning such as engine stumble, flickering lights, etc,, it just shut off!!! once safely stopped, our daughter was able to restart the car and get to the destination without incident. Dealer is aware of this problem but is unable to fix it. Only has been taken to dealer for repairs.

I purchased a kia Sportage 2008 Aug of 2010 about 1 month after purchasing I noticed the esc light that came on, when this light comes on the engine forces itself to do more work, the car won't go more then 40mph, I took the car to the dealer they said it was fixed, 2 months later it happened again, here we are 1yr later and it's still happening. The dealer I take it to tells me "this always happens this type of car" and know the battery light is coming on at the same time the ecs light is coming on. I have an appt. To go to the dealer back on Monday for the same problem and I'm still getting no answers.

Used car dealer sold a car with electrical problems on 7/3/10. July 5, 2010, they fixed the back 2 windows causing car alarm to go off when you get in and when you get out, they disabled the car alarm now causing the air bag light to be on all the time, the door don't sound when you open it, the locks don't work the way they should, doom light don't work seat belt don't sound to remind you to put them on. I purchased my kia used, from a dealer, less than a year ago, and it passed the electronic systems check for vehicle inspection. I immediately had to have dealer replace the gasoline tank after smelling gasoline. This car is used solely for light usage to transport myself and my children to and from dr's and grocery stores. After owning the car for less than two months, check engine light came on, reporting issue with catalyst. Found a recall on this issue and am trying to get original dealer to fix. Now experiencing loss of power to engage inclines or hills, causing a hazard to other drivers. Also back brakes simply "blew"! without any forewarning, with my children in the car, I lost all braking abilities. Thank goodness I was not going fast and have a standard to quickly downshift. My mother was killed due to loss of brakes, and it was an absolute panicking situation for me emotionally. Being a single mother I rely on mechanics to do all my work, and I had just had all my fuel levels topped off and my pads checked, without any issue found. I have also had an intermittent issue with the front seat belts remaining engaged. The dealer warranty expired and I am stuck with recalls nobody seems to want to fix!.

The contact stated that while driving 10 mph on cruise control, he tried to disengage the cruise control by applying the break, but the vehicle would not stop. The contact had to press the cruise control button and brakes multiples times for the cruise control to disengage. The problem recurred ten times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The left front rotors were defective. This was discovered during vehicle inspection. The vehicle was serviced at least twenty times for other defects. No service for the brakes. There was a short in the wiring in the shock arms, a problem with the catalytic converter, rattling in the exhaust system, license plate lights were inoperative due to rotted sockets, wheel bearings were extremely loose, pulling to the right, the right rear power window was inoperative, check engine light had come on possibly due to a small leak or a loose gas cap, transmission hang up when cold, bad front brakes, crack in dash, cup holder was broken, tailpipe rusted and fell off, when the heater and defrost was on the a/c would come on, the consumer would get shock when exiting the vehicle, intermittently both rear window would not go up or down, and the left rear window was totally inoperative. (there was no power when going up hill).
