1 Rear Axle Spindle problem of the 2008 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 12/15/2008

The contact owns a 2008 kia Sportage. The contact has experienced several failures with the vehicle ever since its date of purchase. While driving 30 mph, the instrument panel gauges illuminated and began to fail. Soon after, the vehicle failed completely; however, the contact was able to safely maneuver the vehicle to her destination. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the electronic steering control module failed. The vehicle was repaired. Two months later, the contact noticed a noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but they could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was then taken to a local repair shop and it was determined that the two front strut bolts were loose from the spindle. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed to take the vehicle to the dealer for further inspection. The failure mileage was 900 and current mileage was 4,230.

2 Rear Axle Spindle problem of the 2005 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 01/18/2006

I took my 2005 kia Sportage ex into the dealership in January to be checked due to a squeaking sound coming from the rear end. The parts clerk ordered a rear passenger spindle. Its been four months and the part is supposedly on back order, they have denied it being a recall and advised me that it was not a safety issue. I have a suspicion that it is a recall due to it taking so long to get the part and the fact that they are unable to give me a date as to when the part will be available. I'm concerned for my safety as well as other motorists.

3 Rear Axle Spindle problem of the 1997 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 10/01/2004

I just purchased a 1997 kia Sportage with 38,000 miles on it. In the two weeks since purchase I have already had it in the shop for repair twice. With such low miles on the vehicle I thought it was a good and safe purchase but now I am afraid I have made a mistake. The day after purchase the driver side window switch broke and I could not roll my window up. I took it in the shop to have a new one put in. On Friday, October 1 the rear drive shaft gear box broke as I was going down the road with two of my children in the car. Luckily I was driving slow and could stop right away. If I was driving down the highway at a fast speed and could not get over immediately the rear tires could have seised up causing serious injury or death to me and my children. Someone should look into this problem and fix it right away before people loose their lives over a poorly manufactured SUV.

4 Rear Axle Spindle problem of the 2000 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 01/12/2004

Car purchased new, Nov 2000. Now has 29k miles. Has had brakes, pads & rotors replaced twice because of excessive wear and pulsating when stopping. Done by dealer, who said common problem with the brakes on "these small cars". Now needs replaced again; doing same thing as before. Also loses brake fluid, 1/2 pint every few weeks. Now just had left front bearing siezed up; pulled car to left into oncoming lane of traffic (no impact with other vehicles). Dealer replaced both front axles, spindles, bearings, etc. , but denies this is common problem. However, checking other complaints on record, find both brakes and the bearings problem are evidently very common.
