Riding down chadds Ford PA route one 6/12/14 ( Thursday) when my car started to shake out of control had pulled over in the middle of afternoon traffic . Only to find out that the passenger side back tie rod came apart. . The outer threads were stripped. I have a picture.

2 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 2000 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/27/2012

The steering gear sector shaft had broken entirely through. The wheel and inner and outer steering tie rods did not suffer significant impact. Wheel and steering tie rods do not appear to be bent. Front suspension components do not appear to have physical damage. It is uncommon for the steering gear sector shaft to break and may indicate possible flaw in the mechanical component. Evidence supports possible flaw and potential safety issue.

3 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 1999 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 07/11/2005

Last year I had a front end alignment done on my 1999 kia Sportage as far as I can tell the lockdown nuts were not tightened correctly causing water to get in and corroding the linkage between the tie rod ends. I happened to be moving the car this weekend and heard an awful klunking sound, upon some investigating I noticed the tie rod end just about ready to be seperated from the adjuster link. If this would have happened on the highway my wife who is primary driver of this vehicle could have been seriously hurt or could have had an accident and hurt someone else.

4 Steering Tie Rod Assembly problem of the 1998 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 05/24/2004

After turning a corner and attempting to park, the consumer felt that the wheel was slipping. After going into a store and coming back out, the consumer noticed the passenger side front wheel became disconnected. Dealer examined the problem and found that the tie rods needed to be repaired. The left front rod was replaced.
