Air Bag Problems of Kia Motor Telluride

On Sunday January 18th 2026, my daughter and I were involved in a multi-car accident in st paul, mn on wb I-94. The weather was very cold and windy and it was snowing lightly. Traffic was moving slowly at about 40-45 miles per hour due the possible icy road conditions. A 2020 GMC terrain, driven by a [xxx] male, was driving at excessive speeds and weaving in an out of traffic when he struck the back of a semi which in turn caused the vehicle in front of our vehicle to hit him and then we struck that vehicle traveling at approximately 40 to 45 miles per hour. There was no time to respond it happened so quickly. Neither my nor my daughters air bags deployed nor did either of your seatbelts lock. I was able to grasp the steering wheel and brace but my daughter flew forward and hit her head on the dash board. The vehicle was towed to caliber collision center in minnetonka, mn on 1/19/2026. The collision representative questioned the airbags not deploying as well as confirming that the seatbelts did not lock at the time of impact. We were very concerned as well. The collision center (caliber collision in minnetonka, mn), stated that the pre-scan did not show any error messages relating to the airbags. We told them immediately that we were not comfortable with this information and that we wanted further investigation. We have also requested the 'black box' be pulled to provide information at the time of the accident. We filed a claim with kia customer care. They took my statement and said we would hear from someone within the next 5-7 business days. It has been a month and we have gotten no where with kia. They claim they are looking into it yet the collision center has heard nothing from kia. The damages total over $21,000 and the vehicle repairs have almost been completed. We have told them we are not comfortable picking up our vehicle with unresolved safety concerns. Kia corporation has failed us and we want answers. My wife must use a cushion or pillow to sit in the passenger seat. This causes the passenger occupancy seat sensor to fail. The seat does not recognize that she is there. The seat belt alert does not chime and the air bag is turned off. I have called kia and they have no fix. I have talked to the dealer and they have no fix. I can not override the air bag and turn it on manually. We have tried multiple cushions and pillows. It does work without the cushion but this is not an option for her body. How can this be safe??.

A deer ran into my vehicle while I’m traveling at 55mph and my airbags did not deploy. My vehicle is leaking fluids and smoking.

I was rear ended at a high rate of speed, causing me to fly down a 15 foot embankment, where I sideswiped a telephone pole. The latter causing damage to the passenger side front quarter panel. The airbag did not deploy after either impact, nor did the seatbelt stop me from hitting the steering wheel multiple times.

I was hit on driver side and no side airbags deployed. The collision cause over $16k in damage to my vehicle. There is no reason side airbags should not have delivered and if my child was in the car on the passenger side he would have slammed his head on glass.

On February 16th at about 6 am, I was in a collision. I was first hit in the front by a pickup truck impacting my frontside, from right to left. I expected my kia Telluride to engage it's safety features such as, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, and at the very least the airbags, which none of them deployed at anytime during this collision. I was then rear-ended by an 18-wheeler; smashing my entire back window. The 18-wheelers' trailer that it was holding then slide down on the passenger side of my 2021 kia Telluride. With that my vehicle was then pushed into the guardrail from the impact and power of the trailer falling on the passenger side. My vehicle has been inspected by my insurance company, geico inc. As they declared my vehicle a total loss. There was no warnings, or any indicators that my vehicles safety issues were compromised and the date of my vehicles last service by the dealer, demontrond automotive group was October 4, 2023. I have pictures of my vehicle, where it will reflect; the damage the vehicle endured, the airbags intact; and the back window shattered.

Vehicle struck drivers side rear passenger door going at least 30mph and side air bags did not deploy. Upon inspection and door removal for repair, it was found that in the crash, the air bag sensor was struck and broke. The door and everything in it has to be replaced as well as the unibody sections surrounding each side door. This was a significant impact where the side air bags should have deployed.

VIN: [xxx] owner: [xxx] purchase date: December 2022 I am filing an urgent safety complaint regarding my 2023 kia Telluride. For nearly two years, I have unknowingly driven this vehicle with multiple active safety recalls, including: •airbag wiring harness defect (airbags may not deploy) •seatbelt pretensioner/tensioner defects •front power seat motor overheating (fire hazard) •driveshaft engagement defect (vehicle may roll out of park) kia never properly notified me of these recalls and never repaired them, despite my family using the vehicle daily. I drove this SUV with my autistic child and infant grandchild, believing it was safe. I have now discovered that kia allowed me to operate a vehicle that could: •fail to protect us in a crash •catch fire •roll away unexpectedly •malfunction in ways that could cause severe injury or death this is a serious safety negligence issue. Kia did not offer a loaner vehicle, did not notify me promptly, and has not provided any remedy despite these recalls being federally regulated. I am requesting NHTSA intervention 1. Investigate kia’s failure to properly notify and protect consumers. 2. Require kia to provide a full replacement vehicle (2025/2026 kia Telluride) or a full buyback due to prolonged safety risk. 3. Ensure kia corrects VIN-level recall handling and compliance failures. 4. Document that kia exposed vulnerable passengers (disabled child and infant grandchild) to unsafe conditions for almost two years. My family has been placed in danger this entire time, and kia has not provided a timely or adequate remedy. I was hit on the front driver side of my car by someone who flew through a red light. The impact was so hard that my head slammed against the driver side window and shattered the glass. No airbags in my car deployed. The other drivers airbag deployed. I had to crawl out of the passenger side door because her car was slammed into mine. I sustained a concussion and injury to my arm from the impact. I’m 5’10” and was wearing a seatbelt.

Two people were injured the driver and front passenger no other injuries were reported. The driver sustained face, head, knee, chest and shoulder. The passenger sustained back injuries. The spouse drove passengers in a separate vehicle to the hospital were they received medical attention. The manufacture was not informed. The failure mileage was 21,000. The client did not attempt to file online.
