Tl-the contact owns a 1995 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph with the cruise control engaged, smoke was smelled as the cruise control independently disengaged and the vehicle made a jerking motion. The srs and abs warning indicators illuminated. The contact pulled over and discovered a burning smell was coming from the steering column. The contact drove the vehicle home and contacted a dealer who informed the contact that there was a recall for the failure, however, the vehicles VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 98v040000 (air bags, vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 159,000. Sw.
