The contact owns a 1995 Land Rover Discovery. The contact stated that while refueling the vehicle he observed gasoline leaking from the rear of the vehicle where the fuel tank was located. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 04v203000 (fuel system, gasoline); the VIN was included, but the vehicle had never been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The contact was informed that he could schedule the vehicle for repair with a dealer; he, however, was unsatisfied given that the nearest dealer was 6 hours away and that the manufacturer had refused to cover the cost of towing the vehicle. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact stated that while the vehicle was idling, and during the initial start-up there was an abnormally strong fuel odor entering into the cabin of the vehicle.
