3 Hydraulic Power Assist Steering System problem of the 2000 Land Rover Discovery

Failure Date: 06/25/2000

2000 Discovery ii purchased off the show room floor from main line Land Rover in haverford PA in April 00. June 25, 2000 I was traveling 60 mph on the NJ turnpike when the vehicle went out of control , shooting off to the right sideways without steering control. Vehicle turned 180 degrees in the middle of the highway and was stopped by the steel guard rail. The vehicle was, at that point, facing in the opposite direction of the traffic. The vehicle was kept by the body shop and the dealer (both in cherry hill, NJ) for nearly 4 months. The body shop could not get the vehicle to drive straight. The dealer eventually replaced the steering box. At the next servicing, main line Land Rover replaced the recalled pulley and belts. I ahve also had continuing problems with the transmission. It always seems to drag. I have returned the vehicle to the dealer 3 times for continued problems with the steering and the transmission. They continually claim the vehicle is ok.

While going down a hill at about 30 miles vehicle would not stop. Had to crash into the back of another car in order for vehicle to stop.
