1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2021 Land Rover Discovery

Failure Date: 04/01/2025

Supplement / update to prior NHTSA complaints regarding my 2021 Land Rover Discovery mhev (VIN: [xxx] y prior complaints, Jaguar Land Rover has issued recall 26v248 for DC/DC converter failure leading to loss of propulsion in 2021–2024 Land Rover Discovery mhev vehicles. My vehicle experienced the same real-world failure condition: sudden loss of propulsion in traffic with my children in the vehicle. Jaguar Land Rover corporate has stated my VIN is not included in the recall population despite my vehicle being a 2021 Discovery mhev and experiencing the same defect condition. I am submitting additional documentary evidence from Jaguar Land Rover portland showing that during the repair process: * I was advised the vehicle would only run while connected to external jumper power and would shut off once that external power was removed. * two days later, I was advised the installed battery would only charge to 6 volts and that another battery was needed to continue testing. These communications raise concern that this failure event involved broader electrical consequences and further support that my vehicle experienced the same defect condition described in recall 26v248. The dealership ultimately completed repairs and charged me for the failure, while jlr maintains my VIN is excluded. I am requesting NHTSA review whether my VIN was improperly excluded from the recall population and whether the affected vehicle population should be expanded. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Land Rover Discovery

Failure Date: 07/23/2023

Driving down the highway, the vehicle all the sudden started smoking, forcing me to pull over. Upon pulling over, I found it was a fire under the left front hood based on the smoke pouring out. I called 911 immediately. I attempted to save some belongings, including my $200k boat, but failed to save anything as the fire rapidly grew forcing me to step far away. I then watched my car, boat and belongings all perish to nearly nothing before the fire department arrived and put out the fire. While I am lucky to be safe and have adequate insurance, others may not fair so well when their Land Rover Discovery 5 petrol catches fire.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2017 Land Rover Discovery

Failure Date: 05/24/2019

I was driving on main road at the speed limit (45 mph). I had slowed down as I observed a car pulling out ahead of me onto the road. As I gave my vehicle gas in order to get back up to speed, I felt a pause in the engine and then the car completely lost power- the engine stopped, the red battery icon appeared on the dash, and message appeared on the screen with the heading "special program suspended" or something to that effect-- I had no time to read that message as I had to steer my car as far to the right as I was able to. I tried to restart the vehicle, it would not start and the message disappeared-- I had no chance to read it as I was on a busy and heavy traveled road and had to ensure I was safely pulled over. Unknown at this time as to what caused this malfunction. This created an unsafe condition as the car lost power with no forewarning. I am lucky that it did not happen on the highway on which I travel most of the time. I contacted Land Rover roadside assistance and the car was put on a flatbed and brought to the dealer.

Technical service report from independent british Land Rover specialists, bethesda customer states engine makes a tapping noise, mostly at idle. Diagnosis - verified noise. Oil light on due to low oil pressure, vehicle in VIN range for oil pump failure due to misaligned front cover from the manufacturer. Oil pump damage has occurred, and needs to be changed.
