The contact owns a 2000 Land Rover Discovery Ii. While the contact was driving approximately 35 mph the brake pedal was engaged; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. Immediately the gear was shifted into neutral while force was applied to the brake and then the emergency brake was engaged. The vehicle came to a stop and was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician stated the accelerator cable would need to be replaced. There was a recall related to the defect associated with NHTSA campaign id number 02v028000 (vehicle speed control); however, the VIN was ineligible under the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact planned to notify the manufacturer of the unintended acceleration. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
