Land rover discovery series ii 2002
suffering from seemingly random appearance of three warning lights (always together) abs, traction control, hill descent. Known to many discovery owners as the three amigos these lights are apparently the result of a problem with the abs modulator and Land Rover insists it is not a recall problem. As part and labor run about $ 1,800 and problem is widespread there seems to be a concern amongst owners that Land Rover is not dealing with this problem in an upfront fashion. Technical service bulletin (nhsta 10016118, # 700205) probably relates to this issue.

Land rover 2001 Discovery Ii. . . I have illumination of hill descent control, abs, traction control dash warning lights. . . Caused by a malfunctioning sensor or modulator. . . Dealers don't even know what it is. Web search shows this to be a common problem with this vehicle, with a very costly expense to repair and dealers are replacing modulators at a $2000 plus cost and the problem doesn't go away! I have loss of traction control, anti-lock brakes still work. . . Don't know about hill descent control. No consequences yet, no repairs yet. . . Hope there will be a recall. . . Can't afford to have vehicle repaired and it's no longer under warranty.

Various warning lights activated including abs light, indicating failure of the systems on my 2000 Land Rover Discovery Ii. Privately retained mechanic identified the ecu as the problem and also located a recall notice regarding this problem. Local Land Rover dealership stated that the recall was not valid and that "they put these on the internet all the time. " Land Rover north America was contacted via e-mail and telephone message and has not responded. I purchased the vehicle new and the only recall I have recieved concerned the accelleration cable shortly after I purchased the vehicle in 2000. Apparently the local dealership finds NHTSA recalls as "things on the internet" not requiring any action. This is probably to be expected from our local dealership. However, the non-response from Land Rover north America was unexpected.
My brand new 2004 Land Rover discovery se7 has less than a thousand miles but has already paid 3 visits to the dealer's service department for the same problem. The problem is that 4 warning lights keep turning on and staying on when the car is in operation. These 4 warning lights are: brakes, abs, tc, and hdc. I bought this car from prestige auto group at paramus, NJ.
