Vehicle had engine failure and transmission locked up during acceleration. After a diagnoses it was the result of a defective thermostat housing that released the coolant onto the top of the engine. At the current time the automobile has had 39 different problems diagnosed since the purchase date in 2004.
Rear tail lamp housings failed numerous times causing the bulbs not to work. This created a situation where only one or none of the lamps were working. I replaced them and later found out that a recall or investigation was issued but I was never notified. Interior dome light has failed twice. Headlamp failure has occurred in low beam six times and in high beams three times. The vehicle has stalled on numerous occasions when the heated seats, heated windshield and headlamps were on simultaneously.
June 31 driving 30 miles, the vehicle made sounds as though gears were shifting, & check engine lights, tc light, & track control lights came on, & vehicle lost major power, resulting to a drag in transmission allowing to drive about 2-5 miles. Jul 1 vehicle taken to carmax service (cm), of which both lights had gone off. I was advised that the vehicle was still under manufacturer?s warranty, & cm would have it towed ASAP. July 5 cm sr advised me that they determined no problems, & the issue I experienced was most likely caused by a loose gas cap. July 19 upon my travel, I experienced no engine trouble, but my back passenger window wouldn't roll up. July 23 vehicle taken to cm; they sent the vehicle to lr to have the back window motor replaced. I didn't bother with advising of the every so often engine problems, because I assumed it was the gas cap. July 25 I refused to take possession due to a very loud clicking sound coming from the engine. It was sent back to lr. On July 26, cm sr advise me that lr says the clicking sound is one of the characteristics in a lr; however the clicking is a little louder than usual, & they would order a few parts to quiet the clicking sound down. Early Aug while driving down peachtree st in atlanta, GA with ample traffic, in rain, thunder, & lightening, 40 miles, vehicle engine gave out again, with all lights coming on, & no power. October 20 driving i75-s, it happened again. It lost power while driving 60+ miles, as the lane curved. Turning into a service station, it lost power again. Oct 22 vehicle is currently at the lr, while incurring a rental car cost, I am uncertain as to what the temporary fix will be. I want out! I will be contacting cm to inquire about a buy back, of which the lr service advisor informed me of.
While driving the car, first the check engine light came on, few minutes later a second light(the check engine soon light) came on, then the car stalled completely from a speed of 40 km/hr. This is the third time im sending the vehicle to the dealer to be checked for engine lights, but its the first time the car stops completely. All in all this is the 5th time I had a serious defect, requiring the car to be sent to the dealer.
