1 Door problem of the 2002 Land Rover Freelander

Failure Date: 02/22/2007

Our 2002 landrover was purchased used and the mileage started at 3,500. It was a show room car. When the mileage reached mid 40,000 miles the check engine light came on. We heard strange noises coming from engine , and the car had trouble accelerating. We brought it to the dealer, and made it so that the check engine light went away. However, the car still did not accelerate well, making it difficult to drive on freeway. After a while, the light came on again. We brought the car to dealer again, and once more they worked on it, but the results were similar. When we passed the 50,000 mileage mark the car started to fall apart rapidly. The transmission went out, the rear door didn't open from outside, the sun roof broke, and the starter also broke. This all happened very fast. When we went to dealer, they said we were no longer covered under the warranty, even though we bought the car at 3,500 miles to start with. So we thought that we would be covered until 53,500. Therefore, we had to pay for all the repairs ourselves, and the transmission alone cost us $5000 to repair. We are worried that the car will continue to break down the longer we have it and we don't know what to do.

2 Door problem of the 2004 Land Rover Freelander

Failure Date: 11/15/2004

In mid-October 2004, I bought a new Land Rover Freelander from the jim coleman of frederick, MD dealership. The vehicle has had massive electrical issues. Since November of '04, the "hill descent" light (the lr manual suggests this means a major problem), srs (airbag) and the check engine light come on several times. Car has left me stranded twice before 2 months old. When we went to get the car for pick up, the car was dead. Other recurring problems include: not accelerating properly for highway entry/intersections/left turns. Sluggish, hesitant, lunging forward, very slow pick up. A nauseating burning smell continues to come through the vents into the car and surrounds the hood area when vehicle is running or shortly after turn off. Brakes are shuddering and brake pedal pushes back on my foot when stopping fast. I parked and turned off vehicle. Came back to vehicle an hour later with the ac fans blowing on high. Car was off. No key in ignition. Mechanic and I witnessed the rear gate window drop without the car being on and the key out of the ignition. This happens regularly. Air conditioner spits through vents. Water pouring out vents when going around curves. Significant amount of ac-related water on floor. A/c broke completely. No cold air, only fans. A/c light would not come on. Air would come out, only hot air. Fans stopped working. Front and rear windows completely fogged up on trip to mississippi. Had to use towels to wipe windows down. Drastically cut visibility as windows fogged up. Forced to leave windows down in thunder storms. Drivers side wind shield wiper is dragging at the bottom creating a smeared effect.

3 Door problem of the 2002 Land Rover Freelander

Failure Date: 07/16/2002

The 2002 Freelander s I own has very poor brakes. At 12000 miles or so I took the vehicle in for some other problems and was told the brakes had to be replaced. I want to note that Land Rover compensated me for the cost of the brake pads because there were other front end problems. Today I took my Freelander in and the dealership gave me an identical 2003 Freelander. The brakes were somewhat better and the Freelander had 11000 miles. I am hoping the dealership can fix this problem. I also have had several instances where the car lurched forward on its own. I thought it was my driving until I saw other entries on this site. One other item is that my 2002 Freelander a/c blower is very loud. I noticed that the 2003 Freelander I am driving today the blower is somewhat normal. The speakers in my and two other landrover Freelanders are vibrating due to the lack on insulation in the door frames.
