2002 Land Rover Freelander. Engine replaced at 56,000 miles, it is once again in shop for engine problems at 79,000 miles. Fuel pump replaced at 70,000 miles. 5-6 batteries have been replaced since owned car in 2005 and no one knows problem. This car has been in the shop at least 10 times for extended lengths since I've owned it. I have kept up with all oil changes and have taken very good care of this car. Everytime I research it, I find nothing but complaints a mile long. I believe there to be a serious problem with this car, and think that something should be done for the unfortunate owners of them.

2003 Freelander by Land Rover cut off on me while driving. I had to be towed. The fuel pump and gasket were bad. My mileage is 47,863 miles and the car is driven locally less than 5 miles per day.
In July 2004 I purchased a 2003 Land Rover Freelander hse with 25k miles. In the four and a half years of owning the vehicle we have had numerous problems. The sunroof failed twice and repaired under warranty and has since broke again. Three of the four window regulators have failed (2 fixed under warranty). I have just replaced the fuel pump @ 95k miles. Had to repair myself because the nearest dealer is 120 miles away and nobody else would work on it. Now it seems the head gasket or who knows what else has failed. We have to put a gallon of water in per week. Land rover has discontinued the sale of the Freelander in the us. This does not surprise me because of all the complaints due to the overall poor quality of a "luxury SUV".
2003 Freelander had sudden fuel pump failure while driving on the freeway. Car would not restart and was towed to dealer where fuel pump was replaced. After driving the car for 1 1/2 days car starts and then immediately dies. Once managed to start it will idle but as soon as any pressure is put on the gas pedal the engine falters. Will contact the dealer on Monday to reassess.
I was driving my 2003 Land Rover Freelander on the highway on November 24,2008, when the engine died on me. It was snowing and wet on the highway and dark. I was able to get the car to the side of the highway and waited for aaa. I had to be towed 19 miles to my home. I was told the fuel pump went out on the car. There was no warning and it failed in a highway where the average speed is 70 mph.
Multiple problems expensive and hard to find parts, fuel pump, thermostat and transmission. SUV stalls in traffic, thermostat leaks constantly and transmission jerks violently in second gear.
I was driving on i45 on my way to work, when my 2002 Land Rover Freelander stopped working without any notice. I had to quickly do anything I could to ge out off the freeway with no power. It was one of the scariest days of my life. Thankfully the other drivers noticed that there was something wrong with the car and slowed and I was able to exit. I had to get the car towed to a shop where they told me that I needed a new fuel pump. I got it replaced and it worked well for 2 month and now its leaking fuel. The motor is also leaking antifreeze all over the place. You need to look into this cars. There's to many problems with it and complaints to go along. Thanks.
Fuel pump failure car tow to be repaired, engine exhaust leaks, numerous coolant leaks always something high cost to repair please check this out.
Car is constantly over heating with only 68,000 miles. Two days ago while driving down the street it loses all power. Turns out there's a fuel pump issue.
2003 Land Rover Freelander had fuel pump failure. Consumer states that the problem caused the engine to die while driving at highway speed.
(1) 2003 Land Rover Freelander was running rough suddenly. It then stalled while in traffic and would not restart. After 3 hours of waiting for flatbed truck from aaa road service, vehicle was transported to local Land Rover dealer. (2) a failed fuel pump was discovered. (3) it was replaced with a new one. Vehicle was out of warranty and therefore very costly for original owner.
I was driving at approx 55 mph when the engine suddenly stalled without warning while driving. Managed to pull off the road and the engine would not start. Had my 2003 Freelander towed to the local garage where I was informed that the fuel pump had failed and had to be replaced. The warranty is no longer in effect (48 month / 50,000 mile).
My Land Rover Freelander 2004 failed inspection due to emissions. The repair shop indicated today that the electric motor is defective and that's why my car keeps shaking and failed. Also, he indicated that there may be an issue with the fuel pump, since one part of the motor is faulty and emitting too much gas. Land rover has replaced the electric motor valve three times but never replaced the actual motor. Now I am going to have to pay 2,000 to replace this part. Land rover found the easy solution temporarily by replacing the motor valve three times but never fixed the actual problem. I have already spent thousands of dollars for repair of this piece of junk and for rental cars and now I am stuck with another financial loss. Something needs to be done about this and Land Rover needs to be held responsible for their deceptive business practices.

My car has endless problems in every aspect!! anyone that owns one are having the same issues and nobody can seem to fix it, nor can I get parts to fix it, and the parts you do get to repair the vehicle break faster than the original parts on the car !! my engine has not failed yet but my transmission has and the dealer ship wont fix it and said there is nothing wrong with it !! iv paid more money fixing the car than I have for the car !! I can't go more than 1000 miles before something else breaks !! I have owned the car for about 18 months and its been in the shop for about 12 of those 18 months !! everyone that has one of these landrover Freelanders has the same issues and nobody can get parts for this car ! nothing works right and nothing runs like it should and even the mechanics at the dealer ship will take you aside and tell you get rid of it while you still can !!! I cant and neither can allot of others like me because of the money they have put into the car just to keep it on the road !! this car has left me and my 20 month old son stranded in the middle of nowhere on more than three or four or five occasions !! I lost track of how many times !! and when something goes wrong with this car your stuck wherever your at !! its not safe to walk down a freeway with a baby at any time during the day or night and that's exactly what iv had to do on many different occasions !! this is not a safe car by any means ! when my fuel pump went out my car just died at 60 miles an hour on the highway and nearly caused an accident with me and many other cars and I thank the good lord nothing happened when the car died and it felt like someone was slamming on the brakes !! this car is a safety hazard in the worst way !! kids should not be allowed too ride in this car do too the fact they might get hit by a car when it dies and leaves you on the freeway or anywhere else your at !! I don't let my son in this car unless its absolutely necessary !! I'll borrow my moms car just to go to the store with him !!.
2000 landrover Freelander - transmission failure at 57k miles. Transmission cost me 1150 dollars to fix. \ the fuel pump failed after another 100 miles. That cost me 1050 dollars. This car was junk. The car has since been in an accident which totaled it. But I can't prove the car was at fault, but I'll bet it was.
Fuel pump died at 56000 miles on a landrover Freelander 2003 without any warning. Had to have car towed 28 miles to nearest dealer to have pump replaced.
Water pump failed, took to dealer for replacement, gas pump failed took it to shop to replace it, gas tank lid failed, both one from dealer to replace it, engine cooling system failed, transmission failed, took it to shop they refuse to fix, they say is not their fault and is not cover by warranty anymore, window motor failed, windshield wiper switch failed, headlights failed, coolant container crack, replaced with new one from dealer. Stop light recalled. Air filtering system retains water which allows mold to grow, air filters replaced.
Vehicle shuts down while driving, dies when slowing down 1. 10/26/06-reset throttle 2. 10/29/06-replace wiring assembly, replace throttle body electrical connector. 3. 10/26/07-replace fuel pump gasket, replaced lh/front bank ignition coil, replaced spark plug.
Service engine soon light illuminated 1. 08/07/06-internal failure of intake chamber, linkage motor no good replaced upper intake chamber 2. 10/26/07-fuel pump leaking from gasket, cylinder 3 misfires replaced gasket, replaced cylinder 3 coil and spark plug 3. 02/29/08-topped off coolant.
While driving the 2003 Land Rover Freelander on the freeway and getting ready to exit when the car suddenly turned off by itself, but the wheels were still moving. It was not the battery because I still had the radio on and the lights were working. It felt like it had run out of gas, but I had a full tank! thank god I was making an exit at the time, and it the exit was sloping downhill and with momentum I made it to the first light. But the war would not turn on. The lights would turn on, but the engine would not. I put my emergency lights on and a police car pushed the car to the nearest safe block to park my car. The police vehicle damaged the car from the back bumper because of the push, but at that time I was just happy I was out of an intersection. When I took the car to get it checked out it was the fuel pump. It ended up costing me $500. Land rover did not want to reimburse me the $ at least for the part because they said that I did not use a certified Land Rover dealer.
