The contact owns a 2015 Land Rover Lr2. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle emitted abnormal loud ratting sounds. The contact was able to drive the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred intermittently. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred increasingly. The warning message "service" was displayed intermittently. Additionally, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where an unknown sensor was replaced; however, the failure persisted and the vehicle stalled while driving. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was pushed to the side of the roadway. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the independent mechanic that it was a known failure. The manufacturer opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
