4 Equipment problem of the 2012 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 01/12/2021

Around January 12, 2021 I was hearing a wear noise on rear differential, I thought was the l-rear tire that need it replace, just for safety, we replace 4 tires at the time, but noise was getting worse and worse, we decide to replace the front and back brakes to solve the problem, but noise still loud, and is when we found out rear differential was causing the problem and need it to be repair also, in 2 occasions, car stopped in the middle of street while I was driving, we thought it was battery, but battery was ok, and when I backing up the car, you can hear a big noise like if something is loose under.

5 Equipment problem of the 2012 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 05/01/2020

The the left and right back window and passenger window are malfunctioning ,when you open it you can't close. This brand and the value not supposed to break too early if you compare to the cheap vehicles . I'm scared to open the window because because you can't close especially when winter, sand storm ,etc. .

6 Equipment problem of the 2010 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 04/09/2020

4 days after purchasing the vehicle it broke down due to a leak in the engine, that was fixed. Cost a 1000 to repair, when this happened I was driving home and the car jump and started to smoke so I pulled over and got it towed. After getting the car back, I noticed that the alarm was going off for no reason. All day (it was parked). The only thing that got it to stop was taking out the fuse, but that shouldn't be happening in the first place. I replaced the fuse with a new one yesterday and this morning the alarm was going off in my garage. This car also has battery issues. I didn't drive it for two days and the battery was completely dead. This car is causing me to go into debt due to all the things that keep happening. I have read online that this model and make of this vehicle has these problems. So many people are experiencing this, I called Land Rover to ask if this was a issue that happens often and they couldn't tell me anything. I don't want to put anymore money into a car that cannot be fixed.

7 Equipment problem of the 2008 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 11/07/2019

My automobile's battery dies (I have bought 2 new batteries) or runs out of charge when it gets too cold or when I do not drive it for 3 days or more. Sometimes, as I am driving it on a highway, it just cuts off, and I have to wait for at least 10 minutes and start it again. Sometimes it starts, sometimes it doesn't. Then I have to wait longer.

8 Equipment problem of the 2013 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 10/06/2019

Driving at a safe freeway speed 70mph, the motor suddenly stop with no warning. As the car slowed down, I was able to turn on hazard lights, move to neutral and safely make my way to right shoulder. The car was unable to start for over three weeks since then. . The car is currently with dealer. It was a dangerous situation with my 3-month old and wife with me, how does a car just stop on a highway.

9 Equipment problem of the 2011 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 10/17/2018

Rear differential had to be replaced in less than 70k.

10 Equipment problem of the 2010 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 01/09/2018

Rear diferential has a very loud noise, there is a factory recall for this and the dealer is not helping, the cost of the piece is 50% the cost of the entire vehicle, and it only has 45,000 km.

11 Equipment problem of the 2011 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 12/04/2017

The rear differential needs replaced at only 71k miles - dealership has quoted a cost of $6,000. 00. This is apparently a very common problem for the Lr2 and Land Rover has issued a TSB but will not perform a recall and fix this known issue and factory defect.

12 Equipment problem of the 2010 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 06/23/2017

I have a 2010 Lr2 hse with approx. 59k. Just took it to my repair guy who diagnosed a problem with the rear differential. He referred me to the local dealer to repair. After speaking with the local dealership to make an appointment and realizing that they knew exactly what the problem is with my vehicle, I did some research and see that this is a common problem with this model of car and is a very costly repair. I can't get my vehicle into the lr dealer for more than 2 weeks - however I am wondering why, after reviewing all of the complaints about the rear differential in this make/model of vehicle there has not been a recall on it. I have contacted lr na but do not expect remediation. I am hoping the NHTSA will look at yet another complaint and provide consumers some assistance in this matter.

13 Equipment problem of the 2015 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 05/01/2017

For about a month a warning light was on whenever I drove, indicating that the passenger air bag was constantly switched off. This means that my passenger airbags and perhaps all of my airbags would not function in the event of a crash. After taking my car to the dealership, they told me that it was a sensor issue and suggested that I pay $2,000 to replace the sensor beneath the passenger seat (a repair that would not have resolved the underlying issue according to the mechanics who later examined my vehicle). After reading about the Lr2 recall related to the airbag light, I asked if my vehicle was included and the dealership said no. I took my vehicle to another shop to get a second opinion. I just mentioned the light and not anything related to the recall before they looked at it. After extensive testing, they found that the diagnostic trouble code, uo154-00, appeared and told me that the dealership should resolve the issue free of charge since it is the exact problem encompassed by the recall (campaign #14v395000). I am fairly certain that my ven # is outside of the scope of the recall so I am unsure of how to proceed.

14 Equipment problem of the 2008 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 02/01/2017

Humming noise when driving due to faulty differential. Only has 40,099 miles. . . . Also starts some days and other days may take up to 3 times before it will start without dying. Took to several shops that said they can't figure out problem and they called landrover only to be told, this is a common problem and no one solution has been found to fix it. This has been going on for 3 years and no one can fix.

15 Equipment problem of the 2008 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 07/04/2015

Rear differential failure , a slight moaning noise from the rear end progressed into grinding, rendering the car unsafe to drive. This issue is not uncommon and many Land Rover Lr2 owners have experienced this from 45k-60 miles. I went to local place to see how much it will cost, they want 3. 276,00. Its too much money and I drive kids all the time, and I am afraid soon I will have big problems or accident. Please help me to fix this problem,Land Rover should fix this without charge. Thank you so much!! view details.

16 Equipment problem of the 2008 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 03/19/2015

Quoted by dealership that rear differential need to be replaced for ~$2200. Research has shown my there are hundreds of complaints about the same issues on many Land Rover Lr2/3 models. I would like to advocate for a recall, as every time Land Rover fixes this known defective part, they make a big profit. Otherwise, a class action lawsuit will be initiated against Land Rover.

17 Equipment problem of the 2008 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 02/11/2015

It seems like the car what's to stall and I noticed the rpms would shoot up and then drop and the car just about stalls. This happened to my wife and I about 8 different times in the last 4 months while driving and about 4 times while waiting for a red light to change or while stopped.

18 Equipment problem of the 2008 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 12/10/2014

With 25,000 miles the keys were not working, we went to the dealer that told us that the inside battery gets recharge while we drive, both keys were not getting any charge, the battery can not be replaced, you will have to buy a new key and get it programmed by the dealer at a cost of $500. 00 each in miami, there is no way to open the key or to get a cheaper key.

19 Equipment problem of the 2008 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

Rear started making grinding noise when accelerating and turning to the left or right. I took it to the dealership, they said that they did not hear the noise and I may need to wait until it gets worse, numerous online complaints of a faulty design for the differential - Land Rover told me that they have replaced 2 differentials in last couple of months and if that is what is wrong with my vehicle it could potentially lock up while I'm driving and could cause an accident. Will you please look into why Land Rover has not done a recall ? thank you very much, laurie.

20 Equipment problem of the 2013 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 03/03/2014

My vehicle accelerates in a forward lurching motion. This uncontrollable, sudden, and spasmodic thrust ahead is dangerous and in traffic could/will cause the vehicle to smash into another car or person; I have had several scary, close encounters. The problem seem to be in the engine's software. When acceleration is called for the turbo charger slams into action, roughly pushing the car ahead. The turbo charger's controlling software needs to be redesigned (DE-tuned) to assure that any driver who presses down the gas pedal will get a smooth and steady increase in speed, not an unpredictable, unsafe thrust forward.

21 Equipment problem of the 2009 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 09/16/2013

While driving my 2009 Land Rover Lr2 on the highway, my tire blew out. Upon investigation, the tire pressure monitoring system - that came with the car, installed by Land Rover - had corroded and caused the tire to collapse. This was very dangerous as my tire went from full to empty at a high rate of speed. I replaced the tire and tpms. A few months later, the same thing happened while again driving at a high speed on the highway. I lost control of the vehicle and fortunately was able to pull over without incident. Upon investigation, all three remaining Land Rover tpms had corroded and while one had collapsed, the other two were vulnerable. We were very fortunate that no one was injured. This is a very serious, dangerous issue. Land rover should be taking responsibility, protecting its' drivers and passengers, and issuing a recall.

22 Equipment problem of the 2009 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 05/17/2013

My vehicle started making a loud noise (grinding when in reverse and humming when going forward). I have had the problem checked by 4 separate mechanics and they all told me it is a pinion bearing in the rear differential. After speaking with the local Land Rover dealership and reading several Land Rover forums on the internet, this problem seems to be very common. Of course, my warranty expired about 2 months ago and the cost to replace the rear differential is very expensive (about $3,800). Since this is a common problem, it seems like there should be a recall on this issue.

23 Equipment problem of the 2009 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 04/20/2013

Rear differential failure.

24 Equipment problem of the 2008 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

I bought my Land Rover Lr2 hse brand new from a dealer in NJ on may 31, 2008 . In mid 2012, at 45k miles right after my warranty expired, I started to hear a disturbing howling or humming noise from the rear which is getting much louder at highway speeds. It got worse after driving another 2k miles, so I took it to the dealership in April 2013. I was told that the rear differential (rdiff) needs to be replaced which was the cause for the noise. I was given an estimate for the replacement of a rebuilt (not a brand new one) for $2321. This car has an almost unused rear seat and has never been off-road and 80% off the mileage has been on the highway. I called the Land Rover north America in may to open a case and asked them to pay for the cost of the repair since I found this problem extremely premature for a high end SUV. They don't explicitly admit 2008 Lr2s have faulty rdiffs but they agreed to pay only $500 towards the replacement. I am afraid this problem might get worse and treacherous to drive and strongly believe that Land Rover north America should make a recall for this problem and be held responsible for the whole cost of replacement with a brand new (instead of a rebuilt) one. I also found out on the internet that is a common problem for 2008 Lr2s. . Read more...

25 Equipment problem of the 2010 Land Rover LR2

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Out of nowhere the rear end of the vehicle started making these loud, roaring and humming noises that eventually turned into a grinding noise. First thought the problem was the breaks; inner & outer breaks as well as the rotors were replaced with no changes, noises still continue. After that; all 4 tires were replaced with a full alignment, nothing seemed to help the noises at all. After further research of this problem; it seems there has been an issue with the rear end differential on this make/model vehicle for the last 5 years, that the manufacturer is highly aware of. I'm a mother of small children and my main concern is their safety in this matter; if this problem is allowed to continue, it could end up with the rear wheels locking up. This issue is very serious; better yet, very dangerous and needs further investigation.
