1 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 2005 Land Rover LR3

Failure Date: 08/13/2005

Fuel leak while driving. I was driving through a mountain pass (during extreme fire danger btw) with the windows open. I smell gas. . . I pull over when I finally can about 2 miles later. I see gas pouring out the right rear of the car, on top of the hot exhaust pipe. . . Causing the gas to vaporize and smoke. I opened the fuel door and removed the fuel cap. Sounds like a liquid was violently boiling came from the filler pipe. A passing motorcyclist who was behind me stopped to let me know he thought I was also leaking gas. The problem continued as I tried to drive another leg of 3 miles or so. Finally I stopped the car for about 30 minutes. When I restarted the car, the problem seemed to go away. Major safety issue here. . . To me it seems like there was some pump at work, pumping gas from the tank out to the overfill hole of the filler pipe. . . . I have no other explanation for what was happening. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem. . . Others have talked about it on lore owner forums.
