I purchased my 2005 Land Rover Lr3 certified pre-owned with just 17. 999 miles on it. Just 7 short months later with an additional 8,000 miles on it, totaling approximately 25,300 miles, the tires (which were supposedly brand new at time of purchase) were completely bald, and the steering column went out on it.
The contact owns a 2005 Land Rover Lr3. After placing 8,000 miles on the vehicle, the inside of the tires have become worn to the cord. The goodyear tires have been replaced by the dealer on three different occasions. Each time the tires were replaced, they were replaced with the same goodyear tires. The current mileage was 39,000. Updated 07/15/08. The dealer informed the consumer the suspension was designed incorrectly on the vehicle. Particularly the control arm and bushings. The dealer has tried to correct the problem with different alignment procedures, but with no success. Updated 07/15/08.
I purchased my Lr3 with brand new tires. The vehicle had 33k. I am now at 50 and have experienced wear and vibration for some time. The dealer stated they had never seen inside tire wear like mine before. Since reading the blogs apparently this is a big problem. There is currently a class action law suit on this. I love my car but am not willing to drive it while unsafe. Land rover should correct this issue as well as preserve their reputation.
The tires are wearing excessively. The problem was corrected at 18,000 miles service interval with an alignment and reappeared at 30,000 service. The dealer suggest changing the tires more often. They can not explain the cause.
The manufacturer's recommended tires (goodyear wrangler all weather m+s 255/55vr19) on landrover Lr3 models are wearing prematurely by cupping and underlayment showing through on inside of tire tread where unevenly worn. Mine did this at 25k miles, but I was lucky - after researching through various blogs I've found many needed all tires replaced even under 14k miles. This is a huge safety issue and I am currently working with my dealer to resolve my situation, but it should be made general knowledge to consumers - especially if it can prevent future accidents on the highways. Please note that there are currently class action suits in michigan and California on this same issue. Unsure if issue is just with Lr3 models, or all of landrover vehicles.
Shortly after purchasing my new 2006 Lr3 I started noticing uneven tire wear and requested that the tires be rotated and for the service department to check the front end for proper alignment. On the following maintenance service the dealer said that the warranty had expired for front end alignments and there was nothing they could do unless I paid for it. Now at about 35,000 miles I'm noticing exposed plys on the inner part of the rear tires and am concerned to drive it. This model definitely has a problem(s) causing premature tire wear which I fear may cause blowouts at high speeds thus causing serious injury or death. I understand that Land Rover issued a technical service bulletin la 204-005 in the us in October 2006, which covers vins from 5a000360 to 6a403382 that states that uneven tire wear may be caused by a degree of "bush settle" that affects the geometry of the tires increasing tire wear. The law firm of kabob in California has filed a class action suit and the case is now pending in the superior court of santa clara county.
Uneven tire wear on the 2006 Land Rover Lr3, Land Rover knows there is a defect but has done nothing to repair. I am on my 3rd set of tires and my lr Lr3 only has 40,000 miles. After doing research, there seems to be a lot of consumers with the same problem. Land rover just gives me excuse after excuse and I have to pay for the new tires and an alignment. The wear on the tire is so severe it can be really dangerous on the roads.
I have experienced abnormal tire wear on my 2006 Lr3. The tires started wearing unevenly immediately after the purchase. The dealer changed some alignment issues at 10,000 miles that said they were from a defect at the factory and I was told the tires would start to wear evenly. At 16,000 the tires were found to be wearing unevenly again and I was told that they needed replaced.
Suspension drops and raises while driving. Lights and alarms on dash. Unable to drive car safely. Took car to dealership and "front height sensors" replaced. Car at dealership for 8 days. Picked up car and drove for 2 weeks and noticed difficulty driving car, and a "tin can sound" under car. Looked under car and found extreme inside wear on tires - especially rear tires where steel tread exposed. Took car to a tire repair/replacement establishment and informed that "cambrs" were "out" and car very unsafe to drive. Tires replaced with new tires. Dealership did not inform customer of "extreme" inside wear on rear tires. This defect should have been repaired while the car was at the dealership for 8 days. Family drove on steep mountain roads while these tires were worn and outcome could have been deadly.
Uneven tire wear at 9000 miles. Loud noise in cabin. I contacted the dealer to check the alignment as there is a TSB on this and was told "the goodyear tires are just not good" I have never seen a tire wear only on the inside edge because the tire is bad. Looks related to the air suspension and toe to me. But they wont fix it, they told me to go buy new tires. I just paid 55k for the truck and 6 mos later they want me to buy good tires????.
All four tires had to be replaced because of excessive wearing and cupping on the inside of the tires. All four tires were worn to the wear bars, with less than 16,000 miles on the vehicle. If this was not personally noticed, a failure of a tire could have lead to a roll over of the vehicle. The tires were replaced by the dealer with myself paying for them, and to pay for a wheel alignment. The wheels are always in a negative camber, by design, which causes the tires to wear on the inside. I have heard of others having this problem, while in for service I looked at other vehicles in for service, and they all had tire wear on the inside. Please investigate this before some soccer mom rolls over and children are injured.
