The contact owns a 2015 Land Rover Lr4. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle failed to restart. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the connecting rod bolts resulting in damages to the engine. The contact was informed that engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 15v069000 (engine and engine cooling), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
I have a 2015 Lr4 with 103k miles. Out of nowhere, engine started making a loud clicking noise. No warning lights, car up to this point had been driving perfectly. Then low coolant and oil signals came on the next day, but no signs of leaking. Added some oil and coolant to get it to a mechanic ( stopped driving it once the noise started). Upon next start up, plume of white smoke. Final verdict was an overheated engine and that it was done. I had pumps replaced 2 years ago, regular service and maintenance.
