The contact stated that during routine service, the dealer found severe corrosion on the steel shield under the driver's and passenger’s side fuel tanks. The contact was advised by the dealer that the corrosion was more severe on the driver's side shield and there was a risk that the fuel tank could separate from the frame of the vehicle. The contact called the manufacturer, and the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact stated that the manufacturer advised that the steel fuel tank shield was bolted to an aluminum heat shield on the bottom of the fuel tank and was creating a process called galvanic corrosion. The contact was advised by the manufacturer that there was a technical service bulletin covering the repair on model years 2013 through 2016. The contact was advised by the manufacturer representative that the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover was not covered and would not be covered until the manufacturer was requested to do so by the federal government.
