1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Failure Date: 02/16/2025

My brother in law was driving my 2018 range rover (with only 47,000 miles) on the busy highway. Without any warning, the car lost power. He was able to swerve into breakdown lane (thankful he was in right lane). The car was smoking so badly he thought the car was going to explode into fire so he and his wife evacuated the car and sat a safe distance away. Car was towed to the range rover dealer where it was diagnosed. We were told the coolant manifold pipes under the supercharger ruptured causing what they believed was a catastrophic engine failure. We just joined a class action lawsuit over this issue alleging range rover has known about this dangerous situation in many of their cars for many years but they continue to market and sell the cars as "safe vehicles" without recalling the defective parts.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Failure Date: 05/11/2024

Less than 2 hours before my car completely shut down while driving, I received an error message stating "stop safely. Electrical fault detected. " I immediately reached out to the service department who told they didn't think the car would have any additional issues and that I should bring it to the shop on Monday (the incident happened on Saturday). While driving down an entrance ramp to a major highway, my car shut completely off leaving me with no steering, brakes, emergency brakes, hazards or anything--completely dead to the point where absolutely nothing worked. I had to do my best to steer a dead car down an entrance ramp and onto a grassy area on the side of the highway as to avoid being hit by another vehicle or crashing into a vehicle or tree. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk because the car completely shut down leaving no emergency equipment for me to use. I had cars behind me, in front of me, and beside me on a busy highway with a speed limit of 70 mph. I was also going down a ramp with no brakes. At first I thought it was the battery as did the dealership, then they suspected the generator, then they said it was the converter. They were able to produce the same problem after the generator was replaced and the car only ran for 15 minutes. Unfortunately we sold the car within 2 weeks of the incident because we no longer felt safe, and the manufacturer has been replacing one part at a time with the most important part being on back order with no indication of when it will arrive.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Failure Date: 11/26/2021

I agree with another poster about an issue. We experience this too with our 15' Range Rover Sport supercharged v8 5. 0l dynamic vehicle. There is a dangerous lag in the accelerator when starting from a stop, or a low speed turn. It happens every time I stop or when turning a corner. It is most dangerous when pulling out of a parking lot or cross street when oncoming traffic is coming and you need the car to respond accurately to your gas pedal input. Instead, the vehicle does nothing for 1-1. 5 seconds, then lurches forward. With a v8 510 hp engine thats quite a huge difference in jolt. It makes it extremely hard to gage appropriate pedal pressure. This creates a very dangerous situation when you commit to pull into traffic, hit the gas pedal, and the vehicle doesn't actually move until the delay. I'm sure it looks to on coming traffic as if I stalled in front of them. It's only noticeable at low speed or rolling stops.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Failure Date: 11/04/2020

The car was purchased on 4/10/17 and despite it being new, it had its faults. I had brought to Land Rover orlando and a range rover engineer/specialist's attention that the car's convenience features adapt. Cruise cntl with queue assist and intelligent (emergency braking) - all of which, were and up to the accident, not functioning properly. Although the lr dealership and/or rr engineer/specialist were reached out to a few times, despite the rr engineer/specialist inspecting and running diagnostics, no one was able to successfully and fully address and fulfill my concerns. The end result was that I was told to file a complaint to the manufacturer, which I did a few times and never received a follow up. The accident took place on 11/4/20 at around 8:15 am. After turning the car on and putting my seat belt on, I shifted the car into reverse with my foot still firmly on the brake and suddenly the car's rpm jumped abruptly, resulting in me reversing into a car behind me. Having just gotten into an accident and calmly acknowledging the situation, I proceeded to shift the car into drive to move it and all of a sudden, again, the rpm jumped abruptly, causing the car to jump forward, back towards the direction I just came from, and despite trying to control the car and slow it down, the car uncontrollably drove over the curb and through a fence, pulling the fence out of place and it's concrete foundation of about two feet, and went into high speed and flew about thirty to forty feet horizontally until finally collapsing in a dry retention pond about fifteen feet below. Since I bought this car I haven't been satisfied with the safety of it. It is without doubt that I have suffered medical and car damage due to this incident. Additionally, still to this day, 11/18/20, I am suffering medical damages to my face, back, and body and mind as a whole.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Failure Date: 05/11/2019

I am the owner of a 2018 Range Rover Sport. I bought the car about 11 months back from Land Rover of san antonio. It current has just over 9,000 miles. I along with my family was driving in houston on the busy ih-10 feeder lanes and when I attempted to turn left on gessner road, the steering of my car locked for a few seconds, and then came back to normal function - in that split second my car slipped into the next turn lane. Fortunately, the car turning in that lane was behind us, and so we avoided an accident. Right then I saw some versions of the following messages on the display: "forward alert not available" "aeb not available (or working)" "power steering function reduced. " right after the turn the steering again became impossible to move. I barely managed to maneuver my car into a strip center lot - it took an inordinate amount of power to turn the car and had to be done in multiple forward and reverse steps. Subsequently, I called the roadside assistance line, and they sent a flatbed to take the car to Land Rover houston central on old katy road. All of this happened around dinner time (7. 30/8pm) on Saturday, 5/11. The dealership, of course, was closed by then and so the car is parked there waiting for service to look at what happened. This is my wife's car and she generally transports our kids in it. I was incidentally driving it yesterday as we are going to a family event. This could have been a big deal if there was a car in the next lane to us. It's hard to understand how the car would lock it's basic functionality (steering) midway at a decent speed. I looked online and there is some reference to a safety recall (n227 (NHTSA 18v-625)) - not sure if this is related. We received no notification at least from anyone regarding any recall on our car.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Failure Date: 07/05/2018

Upon starting my car, it automatically starts accelerating in parking. I have to wait for the engine to stop acceleration which takes around 40 seconds. Only then I can put the car in reverse or drive mode. The engine light stays on. Upon taking to dealership they were informed about the above problem. They did a diagnostic and stated that plugs need to be changed. I paid them $650. Now the engine light did not stay lit up and the acceleration problem was gone. After 16 weeks the problem came back and the car started accelerating upon startup, and the engine light came on. I took the car to the dealership and this time they said they car has a different problem. This time they stated the problem is with oil leaking. The invoice was $3600. I took the car to another shop for second opinion and was informed that there is a big hole in the hose. I checked online if there have been recalls due to hose leak problem. The internet shows recalls for 2014 Range Rover Sport models for holes in hoses. But when I enter my VIN number, no recalls show up. Self acceleration should be taken care of by Land Rover. Please assist me in this issue, as the dealership is trying to just rob me even after I got the problem fixed. The tpms light stays on in my car.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2018 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Failure Date: 05/25/2018

The 2018 model has a significant throttle delay when accelerating the car from a stop, resulting in delay in movement after pressing the accelerator pedal. This can be very dangerous when turning onto busy roads and when accelerating at stop signs, as it takes 1-2 seconds before the car registers that the accelerator pedal has been depressed, and then jolts forward at a high speed to "catch up". Two Land Rover dealers (west chester PA and wayne PA) have confirmed that numerous customers have complained about this issue but they have not been able to fix it and have been researching solutions for months. The service manager in west chester PA confirmed that one of their service technicians, when testing this issue, was almost hit by a moving car in front of the dealership because the car he was driving did not react soon enough after he depressed the acceleration pedal. The wayne PA service dept confirmed that there is 0. 8 second throttle delay when testing another car (not mine). I formerly submitted a case to Land Rover Jaguar of north America but they have not yet resolved this issue. These cars should not be on the road with this issue!.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2015 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Failure Date: 04/10/2015

Within the first weeks of ownership failed to reengage the transmission after the eco feature turned off the engine. Eco feature turns the car off when the car is stopped in traffic or a stop signal to save fuel etc. When this occurs the car will not respond to gas pedal being pushed and the car does not go. The car has to be turned off and restarted to get the transmission to engage. This takes several seconds to do and creates a very dangerous situation. I have contacted the salesman at the dealership and he said he has heard this happen to others but they do not have a fix yet.
