Lexus ES300 owners have reported 3 problems related to front seat heater/cooler (under the seats category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 1997 Lexus ES300

Failure Date: 01/26/2008

For some time, the driver's side seat heater (left side of seat) would reach a temperature which was uncomfortable. So, I would turn it on for a few minutes to warm up, and then turn it off when it became hot. I decided to take it in to the dealership to be checked out and adjusted, if necessary. A few days before I my appointment, I was riding in the car and turned on the heater. When it became hot, I placed my scarf between the seat and my leg. At a certain point, it smelled as though something was burning. I turned off the heater. When I looked at the seat, there was a hole burned right through the leather as well as through my scarf. When I took the car to the dealer a few days later, they disconnected the heater and determined that the seat needs a new heater pad and leather pad, which would cost me $1,326. 00. The repair has not yet been made.

2 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 1997 Lexus ES300

Failure Date: 05/01/2005

: the consumer stated the driver seat heater became uncomfortably hot. When the problem occurred in 2002 the consumer shut off the seat heater. The dealership replaced the heating unit because of a short in the heater wiring. In 2005 the passenger side seat heater overheated and burned through the seating material. The dealership found a short in the heater wiring. The heater was disconnected at the consumers request. Updated 02/28/06.

3 Front Seat Heater/cooler problem of the 1998 Lexus ES300

Failure Date: 10/15/2003

I have a 1998 Lexus Es300. The driver's heated seat stopped working. Balise Lexus, of west springfield, MA, explained there was a broken wire in heating grid and wanted to charge me $500. 00, for parts and labor. My mechanic disassembled the seat and found the wire had frayed and shorted out when it started on fire. It had burnt part of the heating grid, the foam it was attached to and the inside of the leather upholstery. I showed this heating grid to the Lexus dealer, who replied, " the heating grids are only good for 3-5 years. " I would think that a fuse would short out, or a light on the dash would alert you to a malfunction. I definetely wouldn't expect a fire. This could have caused serious damage and even severe bodily injury. In the meantime, I have ordered the replacement heating grid for $204. 80. I feel this is a manufacturer's defect and should be reinbursed and a sefety feature of some sort should be installed in future models. What can I do? thank you for any advise.
