1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2018

The dasboard is melting severely which causes a bright glare day and night, causing visibility and safety concerns. There is also a very obnoxious smell to it. I bought this car used and didn't notice the issue at the time. Lexus should just own up to it and replace the dash no matter how old the car is since it is a safety hazard to me and others on the road. I personally try not to drive during the daytime when its the worst but thats not always feasible.

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

During the month of June, 2018 my dashboard top melted and released an obnoxious smell. Now when driving facing the sun there is a glare on the windshield that prohibits a clear view while driving creating various safety problems. To overcome this hazard the driver has to put on sun glasses and if driving after sunset the glare from street lights, traffic signals, etc. , creates many problems by distorting the view thru the windshield. And now,the defective dashboard cannot be repaired other than replacing it with a new one.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2014

Hello, we own a 2007 Lexus sedan and love everything about the car except for the dashboard. It has started to melt and have become sticky. The reason for my complain here is because it has become a driving hazard since the sun is always bright in texas and the sticky dashboard glares onto my windscreen making driving really difficult and wanted to file a complain since I tried to get it fixed from Lexus and they are charging me $1000 for replacing it. It is manufacturers defect and I am not ready to pay for their mistake. The fact is I still have extended warranty with Lexus but dash is not covered in that. Please look into this matter.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2014

I was cleaning the windshield and the rag slightly ran across the dash board. Since then it is like a gooey sticky like substance. It is right in front of the driver side of the windshield. I now have a ridiculous glare on the driver side , which makes it very difficult to see. I have fuzzes and hair fragments sticking to my dash board that won't come off because they are stuck due to the melting of the dash board. I would like to add that any time I even slightly hit the dash board with my nail, or rings or bag, a junk just falls out, it feels like play-doh or clay. This had occurred before I bought my vehicle in November of 2013.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

Dashboard melt when the temperature reach 80 degree which is most days of the year in florida, couple of month ago the melting dashboard is causing a severe glare that make visibility difficult, as a result it is a hazard to drive this car every day or for more than one hour at the time or the temperature is 80 degree or higher. Lexus refused to remedy the defect in the past and now that many people are complaining Lexus is saying the do not have enough parts to replace all the melting dashboard. Meanwhile I can be killed in a car accident and Lexus could care less. I have three young children, safety and visibility are essential to drive my car. I no longer feel safe in my Lexus Es350 2007 and I lost my trust in the brand name. I need your help in remedy my hazard/safety issue caused intestinally by Lexus knowing florida has a higher temperature than most other states.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Dashboard is melting which makes it difficult to see due to the glare. Bugs and dirt are now stuck on the dashboard that you cannot clean. I now have plastic containers to decrease the glare. My Lexus dealer was to see if he could get me some assistance on getting this fix in sept. 2013; no word to-date. This is a major hazard both day and night (glare from street lights).

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

Dash is melting and Lexus or Toyota are not willing to replace free of charge. I'm the original owner of this car and the problem started about a year and a half ago. It's causing a reflection on the dash board which is blinding and makes it hard to see while driving. I'm worried with the florida heat the dash board will catch on fire or completely melt, or cause an accident due to the visibility issue.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2013

Dashboard has melted. Vehicle is out of warranty. Safety hazard is the extreme reflection from the sun. My eyes are extremely sensitive to light and makes driving difficult. I can not afford a new dashboard and Lexus is claiming that the weather is hot in florida and it can happen . . . Oh well.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Melting dashboard-have asked it to be replaced several times. The first couple of times I was told it wasn't covered. Yesterday I was told it is covered but could take years to get the parts in. I've been asking about it for several years and now the reflection from the gooey melting dash is obscuring my visibility on sunny days. I live in florida so most days are sunny days. Nothing has happened yet but I don't want to wait for a crash to get it repaired.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2012

Vehicle dashboard melting in sun. Started on drivers side now evident on both drivers and passenger sides. Progressed from being merely sticky to clearly melting!.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

On July 24, 2014 I noticed the dashboard on the driver side was starting to look sticky and shiny like the passenger side, but didn't think anything of it until I started driving and could not see clearly out of the windshield because of the glare from the sticky and shiny dashboard. After further research I find that I am not the only consumer with this problem. In 2012 I first noticed the sticky and shiny dashboard only on the passenger side which I've mentioned the issue to the dealer who stated he hasn't heard about such issue. I will be bringing my car in as it is now affecting my ability to drive safely because of the glare on the windshield and will present them with the many other complaints seen here. Clearly this is a safety hazard that Lexus needs to issue a recall on before the entire dashboard melts and affects the airbags. I hope to see a resolution for all soon before a fatality from this defect becomes national news as the acceleration issue did.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

The entire dashboard on my vehicle is melting. The cause is unknown but it appears to be a material, or material process, issue. The shiny black melting dashboard is highly reflective. It impairs my vision on a sunny day. I've tried many different types of sunglasses to try to make it easier on my eyes, but nothing seems to help. I have talked to Lexus, they agreed that it's a problem but their offer to "help" pay for the repair was not acceptable (50% of ~$3200. 00). The melting process began about 2 years ago, it was a local problem (reflections only at certain sun angles). Currently, the entire dashboard is melted (reflections all day when the sun is out). Thanks!.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2011

My dashboard has been melting, sticky and pieces have been falling off since 2011. I have reported it to Lexus and they said now that my car is out of warranty they won't cover it, even though there was a memo released in 2010 to replace dashboards if they were under warranty. Mine was never replaced and Lexus is claiming they have never heard of this memo.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2011

Three to four years ago the dashboard began to develop very shiny and very sticky feel and continues to get worse as time goes on. The shine reflects on the windshield causing a glare and henders vision. This is definitely a safety issue and someone needs to do something about it. This is not just in the Lexus cars either as it is in the news that this is also occurring in Toyota and Nissan make of cars.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2010

The car acceleration is out of control. This has been going on for 4 years now. My car was 2 years old when it started. I have taken the car to several Lexus dealerships and they played as if I was crazy or if I was imagining the problem. My daughter and I was almost ejected from the car while I was traveling at a high rate of speed. The car caused us to hit our heads against the windshield. I'm terrified of driving the car but I have no other means of transportation. The head mechanic at an alexandria Lexus told me that this has happened repeated on my make and model of car. He said, at one point Lexus was fixing the car but have since stopped. I told him this was not fair to me. I feel my life and my families life is in danger. I paid lots of money for what is suppose to be a quality vehicle and its totally unsafe. After speaking with the supervisor I begin to research my problem more. I'm not the only one with this problem. Does someone have to die before this problem is resolved? I'm sharing this information with my family. If anything happens to me in this vehicle, I want Lexus held responsible. I have called the corporate office and the young lady on the phone was rude and nasty. She told me she was Lexus and she was not going to help me at all. The rpm on the vehicle swing all the way to the right and the vehicle does not move. When the vehicle moves, it shots like its being fired out of a cannon. This is dangerous. I'm afraid!!! but I have no other car to get to work. I purchased a new transmission thinking this was the problem and I've purchased other parts. Nothing has worked. This is serious and someone needs to do something. I paid over $40k for a danger to myself and my family. I have two teens about to drive. I want my car fixed or replaced.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

For the past few years, I have noticed that my dashboard has gotten very shiny and very, very sticky, causing an unsightly mess and, worse, causing a distracting reflection onto the windshield. I didn't know the reason until recently when I saw a report on the news of numerous other people having the same problem with their Lexus.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2010

I bought this car used on March 2010. At first I thought the previous owner had sprayed something on the dash to clean it. The dash was reflecting the sun so bad that we finally bought a cover and installed it. This has been a life saver! I saw another person on tv with the same problem, and this prompted me to do some more research. It is true that the entire dash board is melting! I was under warranty when I bought it and paid for an extended warranty for 4 years. My warranty just ran out in April and I have not renewed it at this time. I did mention to my Lexus dealer about the issue while I was under warranty, but they were not able to correct it for some reason. Even when I told him that the glare was so bad, he still could not remedy the problem. So I would like to add myself to the number of people with the same concerns as mine.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2009

I own a 2007 Lexus ES 350 and was on the 10 fwy in the fast lane (third lane) and a car stopped for no reason and no traffic. I tried to stop and my floor mat slid forward and my car went faster and I tried to stop and push on the brake and the car was not stopping. I could not control my car and stopped into the back of a Mini van. My car had to be towed away and when I called the claim to my aaa insurance company the insurance rep let me know that there was a recall on my car and I never received any letter or notice in regards to a recall this happened on 12/23/09 and I am a mother of three children and the tow truck driver let me know this could have killed me. My air bags did not deploy.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2009

I received a less than reassuring assessment today of how my '07 Lexus ES 350 was fixed at keyes Lexus, van nuys, CA, following a recall notice. Although the accelerator pedal had been trimmed, and sound material was removed from the driver-side floor mat area, the principal sudden acceleration problem remained unsolved, according to bill horvath, Lexus service rep. Background: while traveling west on the 60 freeway in mid-December my car took off like a bat out of !@#$% as I neared chino airport, located approximately 50 miles from hemet, where I visit my 95-year old mother each week. The car's cruise control had been activated and in use for about five minutes. My speed was set at 68 mph when suddenly the car simply took off, ultimately reaching nearly 100 mph. At the time of acceleration my right foot was no where near the gas pedal or brake. I removed the original Lexus car mats long ago. Nevertheless, it proved to be an unbelievable experience and terrifying ride. I shut off the cruise control device, hit the brake as hard as a could, threw the auto-gear shift into neutral and pulled off to the side of the freeway. I wasn't hurt, but terrified by the experience. I will not let my wife or daughter drive this defective car--ever! the Lexus technicians were unable to duplicate the cruise-control instant acceleration problem, according to horvath. When I picked up the car I told horvath that I'm accepting it under protest and that the dealer's solution and findings to my very dangerous incident were "inadequate. " for the record, this represents a single isolated event. I never had any other issues with this vehicle. However, I now fully understand how easy it might be to get killed in one of these so-called luxury cars. What pisses me off the most is that Toyota has know about this serious safety defect for the last nine years.

Petition for additional investigation into the unwanted and unintended acceleration of model year 2007 Lexus Es350. The manufacturer stated the unwanted acceleration was a result of the floor mats interfering with the throttle pedal. The consumer experienced unwanted acceleration and does not believe the problem is with the floor mats. See also 10261660 .

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2009

Within having my brand new Lexus a few years, the seats started coming apart. I took the vehicle to Lexus, they told me my warranty does not cove cosmetics. I told them for the cost of the vehicle my seats should not be deteriorating this soon. You can see the cotton stuffing through the seats. My dashboard is also melting. It is sticky and nasty feeling. It looks like someone has stuck holes in it. It is gross. I feel ashamed in driving this car.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2008

I had gone though a toll booth and was accelerating around a truck but when I took my foot of the gas, the car accelerated and would not slow down. I had my foot on the brake with all my strength and was barely able to keep the car at 60 mph. Luckily there was light traffic, but there is no doubt in my mind that I would have hit multiple cars if there had been traffic. I was able to shift the car into neutral and brake to the breakdown lane with the engine screaming the whole time. Truly the most terrifying experience of my life. We had it towed to the dealership who explained it was probably the floor mat which had not been secured when the car had been serviced the day before. I almost died because of a loose floor mat?!!!.
