1 Steering problem of the 2006 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 03/11/2019

On 3/11/2019 I was driving about 35 mph when all of a sudden my power steering went out and locked up while driving almost impossible to turn. I had to slam the brakes to not hit a median. Luckily I didn't get rear ended. Took my car to the dealer. I found myself from research the vehicle has a campaign recall "9lc" and they said my car does not fall under the VIN number range for the repair. Did my own research and found it was within range (how can I get more information for my vehicle than the dealer? seems fishy to me like they don't want to do warranty work) they agreed to cover it if it was the steering rack. Now they did there diagnostics to confirm the issue. Two days later they said yes it is the steering rack but the recall was done already by another dealership years ago. Called the other dealership they mentioned and they have no record of replacing the steering rack, even had them fax me the invoices. Also checked carfax and there is no record as well but everything else shows? currently I have a case open with Lexus corp. Hopefully they fix this dangerous safety concern. Dealer tried selling me this repair for $4,000. Which is outrageous. It has been over a week and I am on standby waiting a response from Lexus corp.

4 Steering problem of the 2006 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 02/25/2016

Started driving car out of driveway and power steering stopped working p/s light came on. Since it was a preown vehicle there was a recall on the eps electronic power steering but the recall was already done according to Lexus in 2009. If the recall was already done then why did my electronic power steering go out again? since it is a known issue and had a recall it should be taken care of. Dealership is trying to charge me 2000 dollars. Eps is something very dangerous to go out while your driving it causes the steering to be very hard to turn almost impossible. This can be very dangerous.

6 Steering problem of the 2006 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 01/17/2010

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) I am an owner of a 2006 Lexus 300 GS [xxx]. I wanted to share with you my negative experience. On January 17th I was driving my car on vacation in pensacola FL. When I tried to turn the steering wheel I felt the steering wheel lock for a brief moment three times while I was turning. I had to apply additional pressure in order for the steering wheel to complete the turn. Once additional pressure was applied the turn completed. On the fourth attempt no amount of pressure would complete the turn. I was at a stop light and once the light turned green, I was only able to turn the steering wheel one half-way through the turn and no further. I had to immediately apply the brakes so I would not crash into the concrete barrier that separated the lanes of traffic. I had to put the car in park, turn off the car, turn it back on, and then the wheel became free. The next day, 1/18/10 I drove back from pensacola straight to nalley Lexus in roswell, GA where I purchased the vehicle. Nalley Lexus kept the car until 1/21/10 and they were unable to reproduce the steering problem. I explained to my service advisor, [xxx] that I am very uncomfortable with the safety of this vehicle as I don't know if / when the problem will reoccur. I am very lucky that I was not in a serious accident as traffic was very light during the wheel lockup. [xxx] talked to the service manager, [xxx] and their recommendation was to open a case with Lexus at 1-800-255-3987. I talked to[xxx] (?) on 1/25/10 and he took the information down and said a Lexus representative would call me back in 2 business days. I never received the promised call back. On 2/1/10 I talked to [xxx] (?) and I explained the problem again. [xxx] said that[xxx] was working the case and he would be in touch in a few days. To date this issue has not been resolved.

9 Steering problem of the 1999 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 01/15/2007

I own a 1999 Lexus Gs300. I've heard some creaking noises coming from the front suspension leading up to the failing of my lower ball joints. Before it failed I brought it to firestone on ft. Lewis, wa to get a suspension inspection where they did not see or hear anything from my suspension. So a week later (January 15th 2007) I was driving in seattle, wa when the lower ball joint failed. The result of that was body damage due to the vehicle crashing down onto the wheel and a snapped abs sensor wire. Just to repair this vehicle to be able to drive was to replace the ball joint and new tires that all together amounted to about almost $600 dollars for a part was about $50-60 dollars. The cost of repairing my vehicle isn't an issue but this is a very serious malfunction or defected item that needs to be reviewed. I've waited to file a complaint to see the amount of people effected by this and since than there were more than a dozen instance where the ball joint has or had failed causing damage and in time will cause death or serious injury to people not aware of this problem I. E on a freeway where people can't stop in time to avoid it or the actually wheel coming off the vehicle and hitting another vehicle. Most of these instances has happened at low speeds, side streets or parking lots. Like I said before I waited to file a complaint to see the amount of people effected by it and to also compile more information. . Read more...

10 Steering problem of the 2001 Lexus GS300

Failure Date: 12/02/2002

I am deeply disappointment with the steeing on my 2001 Lexus Gs300 and I've only had it for a year. It is so loose it is almost scary. I can turn it almost a half turn at say 5 mph with almost no change in direction of the car, that and the fact that I can do this with one finger on the wheel. I've had an incident, where I lost control of the steering (shaking steering wheel) and cause me to hit the curb on a local street. I have been reading the posts on clublexus about the l-tuned steering ecu and figured that had to be a solution (even though half the posts only say it affects high speed feel). However, I ran into a friend today with a 2000 gs400. I test drove his car and the difference was amazing (and we both have the exact same 17" tires). His steering was firm and direct and is completely stock without the l-tuned ecu. Now my question - how in the world am I going to convince my dealer that I have an issue with my car's steering? I know there is an adjustment that can be made, but from other posts it seems as if dealers are reluctant to do this.
