Three problems related to equipment have been reported for the 2010 Lexus GX460. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
On December 12, 2017, about 5 pm. I was driving home from work. I heard a loud explosion. Thought I had blown a tire on the passenger side it was so loud it scared me. I pulled over on the side of the road immediately and called my spouse. While I was on the phone my spouse and I discussed what it could have been since no tire was blown. I picked under the vehicle couldn't see anything leaking or damage. I got back in the car with my spouse still on the phone and started the vehicle to check dummy lights on the - nothing there. I started the car and kept driving down the road I could hear air coming through my sunroof. Luckily the moon roof sliding door was closed so no glass had entered the inside. But could tell that the sunroof was shattered. I was driving home from work with no one near me in front or behind or passing for a good 200 to 300 yd before I pulled over. It was a typical fall day like semi overcast but in the sixties and not windy. I was in shock that the sunroof had shattered there was no construction no debris no badd weather wasn't hot or cold it was just crazy and scary. We had a difficult time finding a replacement glass. It was quite the debacle. The glass cost us over $900 through Toyota with a shipment debacle that took almost 3 weeks to come in period then I had to pay precision glass out of castle rock to install this for me. Which cost me another couple 100 bucks of course are deductible for insurance didn't cover in would have exceeded the cost to do so $1000.
The check engine light and several other lights came on in my vehicle. Once this happens the vehicle goes into safe mode and prohibits you from driving at normal speeds. I went off the road as I entered the freeway to avoid a semi because I could not accelarate. I discovered this same issue has been found on Toyota models however Lexus has not sent out notices and will not cover. There is a redesign for this air injection pump due to the information below. Toyota has received reports of customer concerns regarding the illumination of the check engine light (malfunction indicator light) due to moisture/water in the air injection pumps and/or air switching valves in the engines of a number of these vehicles. To assist dealer in the diagnosis and repair of these vehicles a TSB has been released. Some of the vehicles covered by this TSB may be outside of the Toyota new vehicle limited powertrain warranty due to age and/or mileage. To assure customers that we stand behind our product, we are offering a warranty extension on the air injection pumps and air switching valves on 2007 to 2010 tundra and 2008 to 2010 sequoia vehicles. The following vital information is provided to inform you and your staff of the program notification schedule and your degree of involvement. 1. Owner notification letter mailing date the owner notification will commence in late October, 2011.
Going around a traffic circle the back of the truck slides away and steering is problematic. It's a very disconcerting feeling. I keep hearing a knocking sound from the underside even over small bumps or rough road.
