Lexus GX460 owners have reported 12 problems related to service brakes (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Lexus GX460 based on all problems reported for the GX460.
The hill assist does not work as should which causes the vehicle to drift backwards and engage the traction control/ brake system which hinders your ability from moving forwards. This is dangerous for many reasons such as drifting backwards into the vehicle behind you, if it’s icy it could cause the vehicle to break loose and go backwards uncontrollably, and cause unwanted delay in pulling out which has occurred multiple times. The local Lexus dealer said this has been occurring in these vehicles for a long time but indicated nothing is wrong. This is unacceptable because this has almost resulted in two accidents and the vehicle has 1500 miles on it.

Parking brake foot pedal on my Gx460 has a very sharp edge on the metal piece on the back side of it. In disengaged position, it sits directly above the left footrest position. If I slight lift my left feet or stretch the foot on a drive, it hits the back side of the parking brake. Around late-Nov '23, the boot that I was wearing on a drive had a cut on it. Upon closer inspection I found a very sharp knife-life edge at the back of the parking brake foot pedal which caused this cut. I took it to the Lexus dealer (Lexus naperville, IL) where I'd purchased this car in Aug '22. They looked it at it & agreed sharp edge. However, they mentioned that it is from Lexus design & they can't do anything, especially this being on a safety device like brakes. They did refer me to Lexus directly. After multiple email & phone conversations, the Lexus team came back to me saying that it is normal to have a sharp edge like this & failed to acknowledge this being the safety risk. I'm flabbergasted as it's a danger if I or my wife were to wear an open sandal when driving. The sharp edge will cut through the skin & the reflex of being in pain while driving will pose danger both to my family in the car & others on the street. Picture attachments: 1. Two pictures showing the location of the sharp edge behind the parking brake 2. Picture of the boot which was cut due to this sharp edge. I've a copy of the assessment done by the inspecting dealer, Lexus naperville. As any documents with personal details can’t be shared here, I’m not doing so. I’ll glad to share that if & when needed. It is unfortunate that Lexus is not acting on this dangerous situation with my car. It would be much appreciated if you can investigate & intervene to get this fixed for the safety of both my family & others on the road, thank you.
I am a boone nc police officer that investigated a crash in which the driver and evidence suggests the following: the driver press the brake pedal, the braking system failed to engage and the accelerator went to 100%. The Lexus hit eight other vehicles before turning onto its side. The driver was sure that he was pressing the brake pedal ( he is also an airplane pilot). Our local newspaper did an article about the crash and was contacted by another Lexus SUV owner. The other Lexus owner stated that the same thing happened to her in the lowes hardware parking lot in wytheville va. One may assume that there is a problem with the computer system in the 2018 Lexus SUV. If I know of two incidents of this nature, I wonder how many instances there is nationwide.

My wife reported sudden acceleration within seconds of pulling out of our driveway. No traffic, flat surface, daytime, good driving conditions. She says the car suddenly accelerated while approaching stop sign/t-intersection and brakes did not work. Car hit curb during abrupt left turn blowing out tire, then hit fire hydrant which it dragged before stopping. Toyota conducted edr readout and says they test drove the car. 6 weeks later they said no defects found. I requested an explanation of edr - but I have not received. Based on my wife's immediate and clear observations of event and the edr report I am not convinced. For example - edr shows accelerator was depressed 100% for 3. 5 seconds with no brake pressure - yet car did not speed up, and actually slowed slightly to about 20 mph; 2. 5 sec. Into acceleration event car mysteriously shifted into park. Need explanation how that happened, or if even possible. Zero chance my wife shifted it. . The last second of the recorded event both brake and accelerator were depressed 100% - wife says no way she used two feet. Rpm went from 3,600 to 5,900 and car kept moving forward with 100% brake pressure report - report ends at car still going 8. 7 mph. Toyota says car was "test driven" and no defects found - yet the car has been undriveable since the accident (I. E. - missing a tire). Lots of questions, getting no answers and reasonable assumptions/observations and edr makes no sense of it.
I purchased this Lexus 2016 Gx460 when it was new. After coming to a complete stop at a traffic light on a city street and with the vehicle still in drive and brakes applied, the brakes release slightly after 10-20 seconds, just enough to allow the car to creep forward. The Lexus dealership claims not to have heard of this problem, yet they told me to wait until I have 5,000 miles on the odometer and then bring it back for maintenance. I don't know why they're unfamiliar with the problem; there are many comments on Lexus forums about it happening to other owners.
Every time when I apply brake I hear "squeaking" noise from the brake pedal, as per Lexus this is normal noise and nothing they can do. I even opened a case for Lexus headquarter but no luck.

The contact owns a 2011 Lexus Gx460. The contact stated that the brakes would exhibit a loud squealing sound when depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician advised the contact that the rotors would have to be shaved to remove crystallization. The vehicle was repaired but after repairs, the contact stated that the vehicle would hesitate to stop when the brakes were applied. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer twice where the technician installed a clip to the brake system and recommended adding wedges as well. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 6,000.

The brakes on the vehicle do not work properly. The brakes feel extremely "mushy" as you are pushing down on them. In addition, while stopped at a red light, significant pressure needs to be held down on the brakes or else the vehicle lunges forward creating an unsafe situation. This was been an ongoing problem with the vehicle from day 1 and supposedly we are told there is no fix for it. We do not feel safe driving the vehicle as is. Please advise.
I have a 2010 Lexus GX 460, and when braking the brakes require alot of pressure to bring the car to a stop. When the car is also at a stop it requires alot of pressure on the brake to keep the car stopped or else the car will lurch forward. I did some research online, and found that their are other Lexus GX 460 owners with this same problem. I brought my GX 460 in for a fix twice already, the first time they said they bled the brakes which didn't work, and the second time I brought it in they told me they adjusted the brake which felt better, but after a couple thousand miles of driving the brake is go back to its original feel.
Two problems with the SUV. One is that when you are at a stop after a while your foot is on the brake the brake pedal seems to go in just a little and the car moves forward, the other problem we believe started when they fixed the roll over problem with the SUV. Every once in a while when you are stopped and put your foot on the accelerator nothing happens until you put your foot down hard.
