Lexus GX470 owners have reported 14 problems related to service brakes (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Lexus is selling vehicles with bad brake actuators. I took it to them twice and which they say they don't know why I'm here the noise and why my brake pedal was rattling when I look on the Lexus forums I see several people complaining about the brake actuators are going out on their vehicles some vehicles only have $34,000 on them. The dangerous part is that you get no warning lights or anything if it goes out and you're on the expressway you can not stop the vehicle at all, one person even blogged about how there's went completely out on them luckily they were driving up in the driveway but the vehicle never stopped. Lexus is charging people anywhere from 2 to $4,000 to fix these when they know that several of their vehicles are having these problems while still new. I just took it to Lexus again last week and the servicemen said it sounds like the actuator is going out if it is then that's going to be $4,000. While driving the vehicle I hear a lot of clicking up under the hood and you can feel the vibration all the way through the brake pedal.

The Lexus Gx470 has many major safety issues that are going to end up in deaths for example the sunroof draining system overflows and drains on and near the brake pedals and the then overflows onto the floor boards causing the whole general area to be extremely slippery and at times rendering the brakes unusable. Then the 2nd issues is the seat-belts do not always function correctly at times the unlatch during hard braking. The 3rd issue is the steering wheel material fails in the high heat the same as the dashboard that they have already voluntary recalled. This issues is seen on almost all Lexus GX series in FL if you review the forum boards via a simple google search you will see 1000's of other owners experiencing the same complaints.

I was driving and merging from the local lanes on maryland I-270 sb to the main lanes. In order to move slowly from one lane to another, I applied the brakes to slow down and move to the lane on my left. When I applied the brake, I heard a strange sound and the vehicle jerked violently. The vehicle failed to decelerate, therefore I attempted to re-apply the brakes once more. At this point, the brakes did not seem to be working and the vehicle continued to accelerate beyond my control. I was unable to control the speed using the brakes and the vehicle hit several cars to my left and right. Afterwards, my vehicle hit a large tractor trailer at which point the vehicle finally came to a stop. Throughout all of this, my airbags did not deploy at all. My vehicle has been declared a total loss due to the damages by my insurance, liberty mutual.

My wife was driving our SUV and was attempting to park it in a bank parking lot in niles, IL. The SUV accelerated suddenly without my wife pressing the gas pedal causing her to drive over a green space, hit a sign on bank's property, drive over a large bush and a wire fence at an adjacent park and finally stop after repeatedly pressing the brake pedal. We towed the car to the Lexus dealership and from there to a body shop. We had the car for 8 years and this is the first time that this issue occurred. A police report was filed and the damage was assessed by our insurance company.
Stopped short at a traffic light (abs engaged). Proceeded to idle forward toward the car stopped in front of me, applied brake pedal which went straight to the floor, resulting in a minor accident at 5mph.

subject:2006 Lexus GX 470 acceleration
hello, my 44 year-old wife [xxx] was driving her 2006 Lexus GX 470 this morning in seattle, wa. As she was pulling into a parking space, the car suddenly accelerated. Despite hitting the brakes several times, the car did not stop and ended up jumping a curb and crashing into a chain link fence. Thankfully no one was hurt. She called our Lexus dealership in bellevue, wa. They told us that since it was a product liability issue they would not provide us a loaner car and would not be able to inspect the car for two weeks. My wife has no confidence in our Lexus and wants to sell it as soon as it is fixed up from the accident (we are filing an insurance claim and also filed a police report). I am also very unhappy with the response of Lexus not to provide a loaner vehicle and immediately inspect the car. A friend of ours suggested we contact NHTSA. You may reach me at [xxx] or [xxx]. Please advise if there any other actions we should take at this point in time. [xxx]

While driving and at any braking conditions when depressing the brake pedal vehicle feels like someone is hitting the rear of vehicle.
When releasing the brake pedal, the vehicle makes a thumping noise. At times it feels like someone is tapping me in the rear of the vehicle. I have brought the vehicle in for service 3 times because of this issue and each time I am told it is a "normal characteristics of the vehicle. ".
When applying the brakes while driving at 60 mph, the steering wheel vibrates and the vehicle shakes. Dealer cannot determine the cause of the problem. There was a persistent vibration in the steering and it was hard to turn the steering wheel.
