The steering system on my Lexus Is 350 f sport malfunctioned while driving at high speeds on the highway. Specifically, the steering wheel locked up and would not allow me to turn, which made it extremely difficult and dangerous to control the vehicle. The car Is available for inspection upon request. My safety and the safety of others on the highway were seriously endangered. When the steering locked up, I was unable to make necessary lane changes or navigate slight curves. I had to reduce my speed significantly and move into the shoulder lane as safely as possible. If I had needed to avoid an obstacle or make a quick turn, I would not have been able to. At this time, the Issue has not yet been reproduced or officially confirmed by a dealer or mechanic, but I plan to bring it in for a diagnostic inspection. The problem occurred unexpectedly and without warning at high speeds, making it difficult to replicate in controlled conditions. I am currently arranging for the vehicle to be inspected by a Lexus-certified service center and will allow access to the vehicle for further investigation by the manufacturer or any other relevant party. There were no warning lights, error messages, or unusual noises prior to the steering failure. My friend owns an ES 250 and had the same Issue a few years ago but was able to get it fixed via recall on his vehicle. My problem happened suddenly while driving at high speeds and was not preceded by any noticeable signs.

It was regular morning on memorial day and I had not used the car all weekend since I really dont drive unless it to and back from work. I started the engine like would any other day and the car began to shake out of nowhere. The check engine went off, the yield sign went off and the traction control went off. I thought maybe it was time to change my brakes because the dealership had recommended it. I changed my brakes and got new tires but the car still shook. I continued to drive like that to work because I had no choice it shaked mostly on idle and I drove like that for a few days on Friday as I was coming back from work on the freeway the car shook in the freeway as I exit out the freeway the car felt almost if I couldn't pick up an speed and I got extremely scared with the cars flying by. I decided not to drive and take it to a nearby mechanic I thought maybe the spark plugs or coils might be the Issue but after 3 days in the shop and replacing spark plugs he confirmed it was the direct fuel pump and possibly the fuel injector. . . . My car Is only used to drive to and back from work and only has 58k miles. I believe this Is a default manufacturer part and I need help recalling this particular part on my vehicle.

When driving at high speeds on the highway (75-85mph) after about 20 mins or so, the steering wheel feels like it locks up or gets stuck. The only way to get it back to normal Is to jerk the wheel a bit resulting in swerving. This happens almost everytime I travel across the state. The car has passed all inspections at the Lexus dealer. This past visit to the dealership, the tie rod was found to be corroded, however the technician does not believe that Is the Issue. We believe it Is the steering rack. This car has not been in any major accidents and was having this safety Issue prior to a slight fender bender. The Issue Is a huge safety concern because the steering wheel "stops respondings" and needs to be jerked or swerved to go back to normal.
When driving on the highway for about 45 mins the steering will feel sticky or “lock up” and make changing lanes very hard. The steering wheel will be hard to move, and you have to “break free” which causes a very sharp lane change that you have to recorrect. This Is not safe, others have reported the same Issues on forums.
The dashboard melted again, I had the TSB in 2017 to replace the dash. It Is now again melted and obstructs your view by shining onto to the front windshield, obstructing the front view of the driver can cause impairment of vision and could lead to collision. The rear view mirror has black corrosion on it making it impossible to see clearly in the rearview and also obstructing your view which could cause an accident due to limited visibility when changing lanes. Sometimes when driving or parking the power steering locks the steering wheel in place intermittently, could not get it to happen at dealer but happened before and Is a severe road hazard( shows p/s in red on dash) dash lights vsc and traction control intermittently light up and go away. Obviously it Is a hazard if the steering locks up when driving. Lexus oem alloy wheels chipping, not a hazard but cosmetic and disappointing.

The contact owned a 2008 Lexus Is350. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 mph, the steering wheel began to turn to the left independently and crashed into a parked vehicle. The contact’s vehicle rolled over and landed on its roof before stopping. None of the air bags deploy upon impact. A bystander assisted the contact to exit the vehicle by breaking the front passenger side window with his foot. The contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The contact sustained bruising on her face and body. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the insurance company lot and deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was serviced for the air bags recall however, the dealer only replaced the passenger’s side air bag inflator and used masking tape for the engine hoses. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

Unknown the airbag light continues to come on and off, also the check vsc keeps coming on. Not sure what the Issue Is. I feel unsafe and uncomfortable with this occurring!.
Power steering stopped working while backing out of a parking space in a parking garage in tampa, FL. It happened without a sound and without warning, and hasn't worked ever since.
Got a airbag light on when I started my car this morning. Everything Is intact. Was reading forums about it. Says this problem Is very common. Please let me know I did not take a picture. But if needed I can take a picture and send it to you.

The concern I have for my Lexus Is 250 Is that 3 major safety recall repairs have been completed by the dealer. It feels unsafe to drive to date as it has electrical Issues that have caused it to lock up while driving. A problem with the stability control, steering and acceleration most notable in the rain. Today I learned of the takata inflator recalls. I believe this model should be considered in whole for a safety recall.
The power steering stopped working when the parked car was started. When we tried to drive it, it was extremely hard to steer.
I was driving and my steering wheel power went in and out with no warnings & my power steering fluid Is full. . I was turning at the end of my road and thought I was going to crash because of it. . I called my husband to come get the car and get it home , we haven't drove it since.
Sudden acceleration when trying to stop.

The power steering goes out leaving driving a serious hazard. I have read this Is not uncommon in this model. Also, I was informed that it could lock up completely. This Is a serious safety Issue yet there Is not a recall. The car Is in motion when this happens on both city and highway.
After driving through a deeper puddle on the road my electron power steering started to work intermittently and after stopping briefly to buy some snacks, my electronic power steering quit completely. It now no longer works at all, and the only way to steer it Is with manual (very heavy) steering. It has been sitting in the driveway for the past 3 weeks.
While driving with my 4 year old in the car the power steering just stopped working at 45 mph. I was able to manhandle the steering to a safe place. However, this could have been tragic if my wife was driving this car.
There's a loud rubbing sound when I turn my wheel left or right when driving my car. I took it to a shop that only works on Toyota and Honda. They quoted me $3000. 00 to fix it. I couldn't reemeber what part exactly they were going to fix. I was more stunned than listening at that point. I certainly did not want to spend the money I don't have to get this taken care of. But it has been progressively getting worse. I was making a left hand turn on a busy street, and the steering wheel locked up. I almost slammed into a car in the lane next to me. I had to restart my car and apologise profusely to the driver that I almost wrecked into. I called the dealer and asked if there was a recall they knew of with the steering wheel. He said there wasn't. It's pretty dangerous to be driving this car. It's a shame to me that such a luxurious brand name would have this huge problem with something major like steering, and not have any type of answer as to why this electrical steering Is having this Issue. I did get comfort knowing that I'm not the only customer upset at Lexus for this. . .
Power sterring stoped working.
Electronic power steering locked up out of the blue while driving. Very dangerous. Almost seemed as if steering was fighting to turn the direction opposite of the direction I was turning.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Lexus Is 250. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds or stopped the vehicle's power steering would suddenly lock up. The contact stated that the failure occurs often and that sometimes they are able to turn off then turn on the vehicle for the power steering to function properly, while, at other times they would have to have the vehicle towed home. The times they would need to tow the vehicle, it would take about 24 hours before the power steering would return to normal functionality. The contact contacted the dealership (ourisman Lexus of rockville located at 15501 frederick rd, rockville, MD 20855 phone number: 855-821-1390) who diagnosed the ecu and the alternator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, however, the failure persist. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated there were no recalls due to not enough complaints regarding the failure. The manufacture opened case numbers 1802260181 and 1812061696. The contact was referred to NHTSA. The approximate failure mileage was 230,000. Gl.
Put car into drive out of parking space and steering was locked. Shortly after a few feet the steering wheel unlocked then experienced noticeable gradual increase in steering effort at low speeds when turning the steering wheel to complete left and right turns along with a rubbing sound. No warning or service lights!? ssc-9-lc.
Extremely disappointed by a couple of Issues Lexus refuses to fix. I bought this car with 84k on the odometer and less than a year after that all these problems arise. The steering Is safety Issue that needs to be replaced ASAP. Driving anything over 50 mph the steering starts to become notchy at the center and at times difficult to keep in a straight line. The steering wheel whines as I turn almost as if something Is about to break. Lexus quoted me $3000 to replace the electric power steering which Is absolutely ridiculous. I would love to replace it but $3000 dollars on a part that shouldn't have broken anytime soon Is very disappointing. Then to make matters worse there Is a known engine leak. The timing chain cover leaks oil and the dealer quoted me $5000 dollars to fix it. That Is $8000 dollars worth of repairs for two problems that Lexus needs to recognize. This doesn't include the other very common problems such as the navigation screen melting in the summer time so that it Is inoperable. Now the dashboard becomes sticky and shiny making it hard to see in the daytime and it chips so easily. Im extremely disappointed due to the fact that Lexus usually makes solid vehicles. Many other owners are facing the same Issues and they need to be recognized.
Intermittent problem - car occasionally pulls to either side, right or left, when applying brakes. A video recording of the latest incident, which occurred on 7/29/11, showing the steering wheel spinning 90 degrees to the left when brakes were applied at a speed of approximately 10 mph while driving on the grand central parkway in queens, new york Is available upon request. The problem was reported to Lexus corporate and brought to Lexus of queens (new york city) for correction on 7/19/11. Since the technician was unable to duplicate the problem, it was determined that, "vehicle Is operating as designed. " I can not, with complete certainty, state that the brakes are causing the problem. However, an ase-certified master technician, when the problem was described to him offered his opinion. He wrote, "when a vehicle pulls either way the possible problems are no fluid pressure getting to opposite side of the pulling, a frozen or sticking caliper or partly collapsed flex hose on the opposite side of the pulling. The abs and/or traction control system might not be allowing pressure to the brake caliper. There also could be air trapped in the system. "
additional documentation will be mailed to NHTSA.

I would like to report a problem with my Lexus Is300 models 2002. There Is some type of defect in the frame or front arm bushings that cause excessive wear on the front inner tires. Despite the car being regularly aligned, uneven and excessive tire wear continues to occur on the inner portion of the tires. Tires will sometimes last less than 5,000 miles and have worn down to the steel in the inner sides of the front tires! this Is a common occurrence and complaint among Is 300 owners. As far as I know, there has been no fix from Lexus and will lead to potential blowouts on the freeway due to tire failures. This condition Is unacceptable. Therefore I am requesting an investigation and recall to fix the problem before a fatality occurs due to the resulting tire failure because of the front suspension defect.

Brand new owner - first owner; car accelerated numerous times during ownership that caused harm to both my young son and I life. This Is250 Lexus was dangerous, unreliable, caused mental and emotional Issues. Lexus was negligent in handling numerous Issues and concerns related and has done nothing to compensate me for to date relating to multi-billion dollar law suits.
