The seat belt tensioners on both driver and passenger side will not retract leaving a large amount of slack when fastened creating a safety issue in the result of a crash. Seat belts will not return to their original position when unfastened. Upon doing a search online it seems the problem is very common in this model vehicle. Owners have had varying degrees of financial assistance from Lexus regarding repairs and replacements. Safety issues such as this should be covered regardless of age of vehicle much like takata airbags are covered. This was a design flaw by the manufacturer and could be argued that such flaws renders the vehicle unsafe for use/sale.
Both seat belts on driver and passenger side do not retract.
The contact owns a 1994 Lexus Ls400. The contact stated that the front seat belts failed to retract and the seat belts did not fit snug around a person. The vehicle failed to be equipped with three seat belts in the rear seat. The failure has continued to recur. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 219,950.
The seat belts on my car do not retract or stay tight on me anymore. They continue to loosen as I drive. They are stiff almost brittle. The steering wheel does not move out like it used to. Now it moves away from the dash in an upward direction toward my face.
