Electronic Stability Control Problems of Lexus LS460

Lexus LS460 owners have reported 8 problems related to electronic stability control (under the electronic stability control category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 11/25/2018

The vehicle almost caused my elderly parents to get into an accident. The power to the vehicle is lost. The gas pedal would not accelerate and the steering wheel pulled the vehicle to one direction. The car was in motion when the light came on "check vsc" system. Lexus has had a problem with the fuel injectors and sensors before on these vehicles. On ours a recall was said to be needed for the sensor but instead the sensor was just wiped and cleaned and a cover on it was changed. Currently vehicle does not move more then 3mph and occasionally vehicle also shuts off. All lights are lit up on car.

2 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 07/17/2018

I was driving home at 25mph (without my child) approaching an intersection, when the car in front of me makes a last minute lane change to turn at the intersection, I go to break and it doesn't break, the pedal reacts hard where it's always a soft compression, the dash lights up flashing the message "break malfunction" "check abs, check vsc, check brake system, not to drive vehicle due to system failure, contact deal immediately". I coast down the road and upon breaking again the whole car shakes making steering and especially turning very difficult. I take it 5mph the rest of the way and once home and parked, I try to restart the vehicle. When depressing the brake to activate the electric start, the break kicked back and the car would not start. I had the vehicle towed to the dealer it was purchased from. The dealer did confirm it was the break actuator assembly (l-sb-0178-09) that had been issued a special warranty (policy bulletin 16-01) with a 10 year term from purchase date. Unfortunately the issue had not been taken care of with the original owner and then became a problem 8 months after I made the purchase. . . Which is now out of the special warranty term. I am currently working to resolve the issue and hope Lexus will help cover the $2600 repair. More importantly I am hoping it becomes a recall because of the safety issue. I can't imagine what would of happened if I was on the freeway.

3 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 02/09/2018

Brake actuator failure is a known issue by Lexus and Lexus says they will not replace mine. Its a safety issue and should been a recall instead of 'warranty enhancement' with limitations to get Lexus out of fixing something they know is faulty and a safety issue.

4 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 12/16/2015

After dropping the kids off this morning was driving home and all of the sudden I get the lights on the dash which alarmedme as there was loud beeps too. The first was brake malfunction, then check vsc system, then check brake system. The brakes got real soft and the car acted like it didnt want to stop.

5 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

I had remarked to the local dealer that it made a clunk noise when starting the vehicle and depressing the brake pedal. This was at 63k mi when I purchased it. I was told it was normal. Approximately 1 year and 10k mi. After I started to experience squealing when braking. I was told by the dealer that no issues were found and that it was most likely caused by cheap aftermarket brakes. I brought the vehicle in for the brakes again and was told that they found nothing wrong, probably just cheap pads. Approximately 3k mi. Later when driving at approx. 35mph. Warning lights illuminated, and stated to take immediately to the dealer. When I took it I was informed there were codes regarding an electrical malfunction and leak, but they found no evidence of the problem. They reset the car and attempted to re-illuminate the warning lights, which they were unable to do. Approx. 1k mi. Later the warning light re-illuminated. When I spoke to the dealer they asked if I had any driveability, or braking issues, which I did not, the car drove and braked normally. I was told they could look at the codes again and reset them, but they would most likely come back on again if it was some other type of malfunction. I was planning on putting the car away for the winter and addressing the issue then, the dealer agreed that it was most likely the best to bring it in prior to taking it off the road for winter. Once again approx. 1k mi. Later a constant beeping started while driving shortly after a hard braking incident. It stopped, but started again 2 wks later while driving home as I approached an exit ramp. I depressed the brake pedal to find I had no braking ability. Pedal to the floor. I entered the 1/16th of a mile ramp at 65mph. I swiftly downshifted enough that I made the turn at the end t on to my street with only minimal fishtail and found that the vsc was still functioning.

6 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2007 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

The vehicle dashboard comes up with several warnings. 1) check vsc system. 2) check pcs system. 3)check abs. 4) brake malfunction. 5) check brake system. It says to pull over and to not drive the vehicle. Lexus diagnosed my vehicle as needing to have the brake actuator replaced at a cost of nearly $3500! the dealer said that they had already replaced several of these on this model vehicle in just the past few months. After looking online, I found that there are a lot of Lexus owners with the exact same problem that occurred in my vehicle, with some owners already having the part replaced twice! this is obviously an ongoing problem. Lexus have since made a newer, improved version of the part. There was also a tsib (technical service information bulletin) issued on December 2, 2009 for "brake actuator knock noise" l-sb-0178-09 Lexus are now covering this part for 48 months or 50,000 miles. I believe strongly that there should be more done as this is a very serious problem that is a known defect. A safety recall is necessary before someone gets seriously injured or killed as a result of this know defect. This is a huge safety concern for me as this is our family vehicle that we drive on trips and it is used as a daily driver for my wife and child.

7 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2008 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

We had lack of power engine and steering problems in the past with this vehicle. We filed a lemon law and supposedly they fixed it. Now the pcs, vsc, anti skid, air bags, brakes, anti-lock brakes and other alarms came on again. This time the beeping sound is not on continuously but the alarms are on all the time. The power assist on the breaks and the anti-lock brake stopped working all of a sudden. We noted the rear driver side window works ok, the front driver side window does not go up or down automatically you have to keep the button pressed, the front and rear passenger windows do not go down all the way and when they go up they bounce back half the way. We changed the battery thinking that was the problem but the problem continued. We inspected the fluid levels and all breaks and all other fluids levels are ok. At this time we are very scared of this vehicle since the breaks can stop working anytime. If you know it is doing it you can drive extremely careful and very slowly, but the problem can appear anytime. If the breaks stop working when you really need them it could be fatal. We sent the vehicle for inspection the first time, but the alarms went away and everything went normal again. This second time the alarms and all malfunctions stayed until we brought the vehicle to the dealer. The brakes' assist stopped working all of a sudden, the anti lock breaks and stability control stopped working this second time without notice. I have never seen something as dangerous as this issue in any car we have owned or driven in my life. There is a main design issue. The breaks and all systems should not simply stop working while you are driving. I search the internet and there are many other people with the same intrinsic problem. We video taped the problem and took pictures if you need them, please email me or contact me.

8 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Lexus LS460

Failure Date: 05/06/2013

The 1st incident occurred in novato, CA making a right turn from the ignacio blvd bridge over 101n to nave dr. After a rain the previous day. When the front of the car slid slightly, the skid control turned the wheels sharply to the left forcing the car into the lane to my left. Fortunately, there was no car in that lane or there would have been an accident. I was able to regain control but Lexus refuses to investigate this issue insisting it must be reproduced by a dealer for them to act. This is impossible as no dealer has facilities to do this. The 2nd incident occurred on a hill at the intersection of willard & parnassus in san francisco on 3/14/14. I had made a u-turn to enter a parking space on willard and was facing downhill. When I put the car in reverse it rapidly rolled forward which is not expected in an automatic. I submitted video evidence of this to Lexus and this problem was reproduced by freeman Lexus in santa rosa which, however, has no way to fix the problem, and Lexus refuses to do so though this, too, could be a safety hazard. This 3rd incident occurred on 4/14/14 when, at woodland market in ross, I put my car in reverse and the rear view camera did not come on. I put it back in park and then back into reverse and the camera still did not come on. I made a video of this and sent it to Lexus and went to Lexus of marin to show them the problem. They would have to take the car but I could not give it to them and explained this would not occur again if the car was turned off and started again - which I showed them to be true. This also could be a hazard but freeman Lexus cannot reproduce this and Lexus absolves itself of any responsibility. Lexus, in fact, tells me if the car works "as designed" based on what the dealer can find they will not fix or investigate the issue even if safety is involved. This violates the Toyota doj agreement.
