Suspension Problems of Lexus LX470

Lexus LX470 owners have reported 7 problems related to suspension (under the suspension category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Suspension problem of the 2003 Lexus LX470

Failure Date: 08/12/2014

Entire under carriage and frame found to have extensive rust effecting structural integrity / safety, critical safety systems (brake lines, suspension structure), frame, fuel lines, fuel tank, and steering linkage. This is general attack corrosion with structural failure, corrosion fatigue, etc. There were / are no extenuating circumstances under any definition of normal use to explain this degree & extent of corrosion other than a manufacturing issue.

2 Suspension problem of the 2004 Lexus LX470

Failure Date: 10/17/2010

Normal driving, then SUV became very bouncy. Air suspension system failed causing default to highest suspension level. No suspension characteristics at all going over bumps or making turns. The whole car would shake and bounce over any slight imperfection in the road. The car felt like it would tip over going around turns. First time this happened at 10,000 miles. At that time the dealer replaced under warranty the rear sensors that had failed. Bought the car back to the dealer today. They comfirmed that one of rear sensors have failed again and both of the front sensors have failed. Car has 48,700 miles.

3 Suspension problem of the 2005 Lexus LX470

Failure Date: 04/26/2009

2005 Lexus 470 has ongoing height control problems. Serviced 5 times for this issue, last time on 4/20/09. On 4/26/09, vehicle began to drive very roughly and the rear of vehicle raised one inch higher than front of vehicle. On 4/27/09, SUV returned to Lexus dealer for 6th repair appointment for height control problem. Becoming fearful of driving SUV.

4 Suspension problem of the 2005 Lexus LX470

Failure Date: 03/10/2009

2005 Lexus lx 470 has ongoing height control problem. First appeared at 24, 590 miles. Has been serviced for problem 5 times. Last time, Lexus paid for part only. I have scheduled a 6th repair appointment. Vehicle also pulls to the left significantly, even after 4-20-09 repair. Becoming fearful of driving vehicle.

5 Suspension problem of the 2004 Lexus LX470

Failure Date: 01/22/2008

2004 Lx470 ahc (automatic height control failure)! as of January 22, 2008, the ahc failed. The car now rides like a buckboard; even though one is on the highway. The car will even tilt to one side while going down the road. The car sits very low and the height will not come up to the "n" level and stays in the low position. The "ach off light" keeps flashing. Sometimes the car will come up a bit, but then goes back down. If the light says the car is in the "n" position, it is not. It is now in the low position. The car does not come up even when one is at speed. On occasion the cars rear end will be all the way down and the front end is in the normal position, which puts the headlights very high. When the car is in the low position, as it is presently, there is very little suspension travel and virtually no way to control the vehicle in a sudden maneuver. In addition, the car will oscillate from front to back as if it were a boat gong into waves. I called Lexus customer service. I got a very polite person, but no real explanation or help. I now have an appointment with the local Lexus dealer to get the car repaired. However, I feel this type of suspension system failure is an "extreme safety hazard". These cars should be recalled before someone gets injured or killed. Should a suspension failure occur at highway speed, the car could easily go out of control.

6 Suspension problem of the 2000 Lexus LX470

Failure Date: 11/18/2006

Failure of automatic height control while driving. Reportedly a recurring issue with all models of Lexus lx 470. On my car this problem already happened once at 55000 miles and was supposedly "fixed", but happened again. Very dangerous and appears to be a money making scheme for Lexus dealers since they are completely nonchalant about it. Nhtsa needs to address it with Lexus/Toyota before somebody gets hurt.

7 Suspension problem of the 2004 Lexus LX470

Failure Date: 02/26/2006

This a 2004 Lx470. In may of 2005 the rear suspension became "locked" in a fully extended mode. The 2004 Lx470 has an electronically controlled suspension that can cause the vehicle to lower or raise. Apparently, the rear suspension was "locked" in the raise position while the front suspension was in the lowered position. The vehicle was dangerous to drive and was subsequently flat-bedded to a dealership for repairs. At the dealership they were not able to get new replacement parts (they said it was bad sensors ) because they were on back order. After about a month of delay, the dealership finally used sensors from a 2005 vehicle to repair my vehicle. Now, less than one year later (and less than 10,000 miles later) on Feb. 26th of 2006 the same thing has occurred yet again. The rear suspension is "locked" in the fully extended position making the vehicle dangerous to drive. I have contacted Lexus who has said they will need to investigate the issue. Hopefully this will be repaired properly this time and never occur again.
