Recently there was a popping sound while the vehicle was turned on and was stationary. It resulted in cracks on the front passenger side dashboard. I am scared to drive the vehicle as I do not know what happened. Is there a Lexus recall for the same problem?.

Letter from senator nelson on behalf of constituent re 2005 Rx330 Lexus recall issues not be resolved. The consumer stated five years ago, she noticed the dash around the passenger air bag was beginning to crack and immediately brought the issue to the a friend who at the time was a service writer for a local automotive company. After a few inquires, he was able to determine there had been a number of complains logged for exactly the same issue and Lexus was looking into the problem. The consumer contacted Lexus, and was assured the issue was being taken seriously and that owners would be notified as soon as they made a determination. The notification came a few years later and sadly, it stated they were aware of the defective part but, the consumer had to wait for an official notice to come in the mail with instructions as to how to proceed. The notice finally arrived and when the consumer contacted Lexus, she was put on a waiting list. The consumer stated it has been almost two years and although she has been assured by Lexus that it is not a safety issue regardless of how close it is to the air bag the dash continued to crack and extended from the passenger side, in a spider like manner, all the way to the driver's side and the passenger side dash near the air bag was beginning to show orange/yellow foam layer which had previously hidden.

4 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Lexus RX330

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

I own a 2004 Lexus RX 330. As has been widely reported on the internet, the dashboard in these cars has a tendency to crack and peal, particularly around the area above the passenger airbag. At the outset this appears to be a cosmetic issue. However, when I recently went to an auto upholstery shop to inquire about repair, the technician became alarmed because I -- like presumably many others -- had sought to initiate a temporary repair by placing heavy-duty duct tape over the cracked area. The technician advised me to immediately remove the duct tape because of his concern that it would interfere with the deployment of the airbag. Thus, in this instance, while the actual problem may only be cosmetic, the tendency of consumers to seek to temporarily repair the issue particularly given the prohibitive cost of dashbopard replacement as a proper repair¿¿ creates a situation of grave concern for passenger safety. I had driven the car thousands of miles with the duct tape covering the airbag without a thought to the risk I was taking.

Injuries were sustained, which required medical treatment. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

6 Air Bag problem of the 2006 Lexus RX330

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

In April 2014, my mom was contacted by Lexus about the melting dashboard issue that has plagued almost 5 million Lexus vehicles. She was told she would have to "wait in line" for her customer number to pop up in the system in order to fix the melting dashboard, which has affected her visibility when it is sunny outside as well as her steering mechanism. We do not know if there is damage to the airbags, but with a continuously melting dashboard we can only imagine the damage and danger that lurks underneath. The steering has gotten progressively more difficult as the dash cracks and melts more. There are multiple cracks throughout the the dash that have gotten progressively worse and interfere with the integrity of the inside of the car. Soon, the parts attached to the dash may disassemble while she is driving, which can potentially kill other passengers on the road and herself. We reached out to Lexus corporate and in March 2016, after multiple attempts to go through the local dealer both here and in north florida, Lexus refuses to fix her dashboard and continues to ignore our pleas and demands for attention to this matter. Please refer to attached photos.

7 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Lexus RX330

Failure Date: 02/19/2014

This is not an accident complaint. My car has a defect in the dash vinyl (cracks and 2 holes) that I fear could effect the airbag operation if it were to activate. I understand Lexus has recognized this is a common manufacturing defect of these models but classify it only as a cosmetic problem and only offer a replacement at the owners expense. Has there been any reports of airbag problems in these vehicles? any lawsuits?.

8 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Lexus RX330

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

My dashboard has been recalled and mine is split and keeps getting larger especially where the passenger airbag is located. Lexus told me in July 2015 that the "dashboards will be released at the end of this month. " that did not happen. The response that I received as to whether my airbags were takata, Lexus responded, "unfortunately we do not have data on the manufacturer. . . . But can assure you that . . . The airbags. . . Are not under any recall at this time. " I am suppose to feel good driving my car with that statement? they have always known every part in my car by VIN #. I am also driving around with the headlights' excessive moisture after they finally could replace those. Alluding me that I would be able to get the dashboard fixed at the end of July, I held off get that repaired until I could do all three. Now, I believe that the headlights' repair will be at my expense. When is NHTSA. Dot. Gov going to enforce the recalls? I & many others are driving death vehicles!!! are my children going to have to sue both you & Lexus for neglect? I, & numerous others, thought that we were paying you to protect us. When are you going to protect us instead of just recording our issues?.

I took my car into park place Lexus in plano to have them fix my air bag. It is not fuctioning. The light shows that the air bag will not come on. After having the dealer try to fix the air bag first at a cost of $99. 00 then a coat of $230. 00 it is still not fixed. What can I do to have this faulty part fixed?I do not believe that it is something I should be paying for.

12 Air Bag problem of the 2005 Lexus RX330

Failure Date: 09/20/2012

My dash is experiencing cracks in the dash at the air bag location. The dash is falling apart and has several cracks the length of the dash and close to the air bag location. I keep my vehicle maintained and most people would say I am excessive about keeping my vehicle clean and looking show room condition. My dash is also cracking around the radio area. These are small cracks but are still there. I am concerned about the effectiveness of air bags that come from behind the dash to operate. I believe this from direct affects of how the air bags where mounted behind the dash. We all the recalls on airbags I also concerned that my vehicle has a affect or defective air bags. Since the air bags are located behind the dash and are part of the dash panel I feel this should be investigated to ensure that the air bags are not leaking or affecting the dash panel. With so many complaints about cracking dash panels in Lexus vehicles which are suppose to be a high quality vehicle I feel it should not be cracking or coming apart and that Lexus should replace the dash panel and air bags to ensure safety to driver and front passenger. My vehicle looks show room condition right now and has a little over 100,000 miles on it and has been serviced at our local Lexus dealer. The dealer costs are much more than private repair station but being afraid to take these repair center that the dealer will say the warranty is void or that I did something wrong. I love my Lexus and it runs just as good as it did the first day I purchased it. My dealer has been helpful and courtesy to me every time I go in for service. Just concerned about the dash and air bags. Thanks for your time and consideration.

13 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Lexus RX330

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

Parent CO, Toyota issued a voluntary replacement of dashboard due to cracked, sticky, shiny condition in what was an obvious attempt to stave off an official government recall and/or a class action. Parent CO, Toyota is now stalling by not supplying the dealers with said dashboards they promised to replace. I first brought this issue to the attention of my dealer in may of 2012. Even if the dealer was receiving the dashboards at the rate of 2 or 3 a week as originally promised, it would be another full year or more before they would replace mine. At this time, the dealers are receiving none and no dashboards are being replaced. This is not just a cosmetic issue, it's a severe safety hazard. In the case of my dash, which is completely covered with cracks, if the airbag is deployed at 200 mph those small little pieces of plastic will shred my face and the faces of anyone riding with me into hamburger. Considering the fact that the takata air bags can be deployed even when there isn't a accident, makes it even a bigger hazard. Enough is enough, the government needs to step in and issue an official recall and force Toyota to replace the dashboards immediately without any more legal stall tactics. The vehicle is essentially undriveable in it's present condition. I have health conditions that prevent me from working at this time and need the vehicle to get to my doctors. I couldn't afford to buy a new vehicle even if this one was in excellent trade-in value. It's been over 4 years for me, longer for others and will be multiple more years at this rate. I need a safe vehicle to drive, like the one I was promised when I purchased this one.

18 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Lexus RX330

Failure Date: 01/08/2010

The vehicle dashboard has experienced abnormal cracking and decomposition throughout. It started with hairline cracks which spread all through the dash. Since the dash started to turn sticky/gummy, pieces of the dash started falling off near the ends (e. G. Where the dash meets the glove compartment). Of concern is airbag deployment in case of an accident. For example, since the dash has been compromised and has cracks, would the airbag deployment cause the dash to splinter and shoot pieces at the car's occupants? would the stickiness of the dash cause the airbag deployment to fail since it can stick to the dash due to it's newly acquired adhesive properties? visibility concerns arise due to the reflections of the dash on the windshield. Since the dash can no longer be kept clean because everything sticks to it, bothersome reflections are cast on the windshield during certain lighting conditions. The local Lexus dealership and Lexus corporate was notified and they inspected the vehicle. They said the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty and since my vehicle had not been serviced at the dealership, they would not pay to replace the dash; they did offer a 25% discount for the cost of the parts. From my research, it appears faulty materials may have been used by Toyota/Lexus for a period of some years as there are many reports of this same condition happening to other owners. Since there are safety concerns involved, I believe Lexus should be responsible and replace the faulty dashboards.

19 Air Bag problem of the 2005 Lexus RX330

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

Various hairline cracks have randlomly appeared on the dashboard. They range in size from 1" to 6". One crack has appeared along the area that covers the passenger airbag. This could potentially cause the airbag to malfunction or not work as intended, which could be fatal in an accident. The dashboard issue has been discussed on various online Lexus forums.

20 Air Bag problem of the 2004 Lexus RX330

Failure Date: 10/26/2005

While driving the 2004 Lexus Rx330 on the freeway, trying to avoid a car on my left lane that suddenly swerved to my driver side. To avoid being hit, I steered slightly to the right. However, due to the speed, the car went over to the right lane and when trying to turn the steering back to the left, the car skid and lost control. Skidded across two lanes to the right, hit a truck trailer, trailer over turned, my Lexus then got bounced back, rolled over across 5-6 lanes on the freeway, landed on the passenger side by the divider, driver was knocked out after impact when the SUV started rolling over. Got a concussion on the left side of the head. Car was totaled. My complained is that none of the air bags in the vehicle was deployed at all. Wrote a registered letter to the manager of the Lexus dealer where the car was purchased two years ago but never got a reply either. With such extensive damage and several impact during the accidents, if the air bags were deployed, the concussion could have been avoided plus the numerous cut from the flying glass when all the windows and windscreen were shattered.
