Owner of 2005 Lincoln Aviator (acquired late 2006)kept exclusively in garage. Currently has 39,500 miles. A vertical crack has recently appeared near the emblem (right side) on the rear liftgate panel below the rear window. The entire liftgate portion which contains the window and the emblem has to be replaced. The vehicle is no longer under warranty, and as previously stated the dealership states that Ford/Lincoln will not stand behind its vehicle. Also, it seems the crack may prevent the from closing securely.
The back hatch panel cracked was fixed , the steering not right some times its hard to steer. Main problem is cylinder coils going bad alot. Now #8 coil went bad and has been replaced 2times, and its still in the shop they cant find out why it keeps coming up #8 still misfiring . . They think its the head now. I understand Lincoln has had so many problems with this that they have allowed a 10yr. Extended warranty on all the coils. Is this right ? I want Lincoln to do something. I am so mad right now . I will never buy another Lincoln. Help me.

Through online research, she discovered many Aviators that were experiencing the same failure. The contact believes the failure may be due to a manufacturer defect. The battery continued to fail and she is unsure if it is a result of the hatch not being able to close completely because of where the crack is located. The crack is located near the Lincoln emblem. Lincoln referred her to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 60,500. Updated 01/17/08 updated 01/17/08.
