Lincoln Continental owners have reported 24 problems related to electrical system (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Lincoln Continental based on all problems reported for the Continental.
The 2017 Lincoln Continental started using electronic door latches. When they fail, there is no way to open the door from the outside other than to break the window. The driver side door is the only door that has an emergency escape latch. If someone is trapped inside the car, even though the door is unlocked, it will not open if the switch is faulty. There is a notice online calling out the issue [xxx] . I believe this is a safety issue because if a child or unconscious passenger is in the vehicle during an accident, the door cannot be opened without breaking the glass. They cost several hundred dollars to fix and should be on the mfr to replace due to safety concerns. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

This vehicle has been repeatedly getting a "door fault service required" alert on the dashboard. I have even had the burglar alarm (horn honking and lights flashing) go off for no reason in my garage with my garage door shut. This is the exact problem that was covered with safety recall 19s03. For some reason, my vehicle was not included as part of this recall, even though it was built at the flat rock assembly plant where the other problematic vehicles came from. The build dates that were included in the recall were from November 30, 2015 through November 14, 2018. My vehicle was apparently outside of this range, but the problem continues. The cutoff date ranges for this recall was obviously too narrow because the problem persists. Now, because the applicable range was too narrow, I am left to have to pay for a factory mistake. Please expand the affected dates on recall 19s03. This is an issue that poses an imminent threat to the safety of this vehicle because the door latch is intermittently operative. There is a potential for the door to open while driving which poses a risk of accident and/or injury.

Door default warning appears when starting the vehicle.
Rear passenger door will not open. Lincoln has active recalls on other vins but mine is not included. I ask that mine be included. My door will occasionally pop open, but the most common problem is the handle will not engage from the outside. My Lincoln has the door handle on the trim piece. This is a common recall but my car is not included. It needs to be as not being able to open a door or it randomly opening poses threat or harm to myself and my family.
Door warning.

The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 137,070. The VIN was not available.

Door latch failed and will not unlock the front passenger door. Dangerous situation if the battery dies. Similar recall but Lincoln said there's nothing they can do only 2019 was recalled for that. Would not make an exception. Dealer was surprised and advised me to report.
Defective e-latch (press button activated door latch), rear passenger side door. The button is defective- subject to recall, however, my VIN not included. In addition to the defective button installed on our car; this car has a safety design defect in that the manufacturer has not provided the rear passengers a mechanical means of escape in the event of an accident and the button malfunctions or is defective (as is the case with our vehicle). The manufacturer provides such a latch for the front seat passengers. But apparently had no concern for the safety of the rear passengers. I called Lincoln and alerted them to my concerns- they refused to replace my defective button (car out of warranty and not subject to the VIN specific recall) and similarly were unconcerned regarding my concerns over the hazards presented by the negligent design. All of these cars should be recalled and those e-latches replaced and the rear doors retrofitted with an emergency mechanical latch.
The exterior door latches will not open from the outside on the passenger side of the vehicle.
December 26 2020, upon attempting to exit the front passenger seat, the door would not open when button depressed to open the door and allow passenger to exit. Door only allowed for exit when opened from the outside handle. Inability to exit vehicle puts lives in danger. Vehicle was parked when incident occurred.
The contact owns a 2019 Lincoln Continental. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the “no key detected” warning light was illuminated and the vehicle would not start. The contact stated that whenever the sign was off, the vehicle would start up right away. The contact stated that the vehicle would start normally while at his residence. The contact stated that he thought that there was an electrical interference that prevented the vehicle from starting and was worried that the failure occurred from another electrical source. The contact had towed the vehicle to a local dealer who could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the battery was in good condition and was not the cause of the failure. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.
We are dissatisfied with the level of service from the Lincoln motor company and serramonte Ford dealership in colma, California, with specific reference to the case, cas-1758606, recall 19s03 and NHTSA recall # 1v-077. Our vehicle's driver door will not close and is unsafe to drive. The ongoing issue has been problematic for victoria sedan & limousine. The vehicle has been at the dealership since April 1, 2019, and has not been resolved even after contacting serramonte Ford, Ford headquarters as well as Lincoln concierge. We were denied a loaner vehicle or any sort of compensation for time loss and the lack of effort in resolving this issue in a timely manner has forced us to take a financial loss, reassign the chauffeur who had the vehicle and put a strain on our operations. What makes matters worse is that we have learned that one of our partners; with the same type of business had the same issue with their Lincoln Continental. They took it to the Ford Lincoln dealership in concord, California and were given a loaner while their car awaited the defective part which has since been repaired. This raises the question as to why our operation was treated differently. We are reaching out to you to see if you can h assist us getting the issue resolved as the agencies mentioned were unable to do so.
The doors on our 2017 Lincoln Continental open while driving. We called the dealership and they said they cannot fix it for another year. It is unsafe to drive because of doors opening at times and not unlocking at times too. We called the dealership as soon as we found out this problem last year and they just told us to call this year, so we did - so basically we have to wait 2 years to get our Lincoln fixed? doors open while driving. Doors will not latch while driving or stationary.
Instrument cluster deprograms itself, interior lighting stopped working, folding exterior mirrors fold themselves witout command to do so,rear view mirror changes it setting without command, hud flashes multicolor lights onto windshield viewing area, approach lighting stopped working. Sync3 was programmed to display map on startup but recently came up with different setup. All occured while vehicle was stationary. Began 12/11/2018 until present.

subject:automatic headlight moduale
comments: I got a notice of an error on sending you my message. Hope you do not get two. My 98 Lincoln Continental has no turnsignal lights,no emergency lights etc. It can not be driven safely. We have called the dealership and was told we need an automatic headlight module. However it has been discontinued by Ford motor company and there is none available in the united states. I called Ford motor company(case id#1556870779) and was told to contact you. Was there no recall on this part? I am certain that I am not the only one that has a problem with this car. I was told to get a part from a junk yard although that too would be expensive since they too know this part is no longer available. . Being female I do not think that is possible. I also think that a company like Ford should be responsilbe for providing parts for their cars. Many cars are on the road a lot longer than ten years. I could go on but for now --what am I to do?? from NHTSA web site. 98 Lincoln has no turnsignal no emergency lights etc. It is unsafe to drive the dealership said it needed an automatic headlight module but no part exists in the us. What now???.

The contact owns a 2000 Lincoln Continental. The power door locks engage and unlock on their own without warning. The doors normally lock automatically when shifting out of park. The interior lights also illuminated without warning after the vehicle was parked, which prevented the alarm system from engaging. The failure occurred February 5, 2008. The door is ajar warning indicator light indicated had illuminated; however, the door was secure. The abs warning light illuminated the week of January 28, 2008 when there was snow present and dimmed immediately after the contact reached his destination. The dealer had not yet diagnosed the failure. The current and failure mileages were 93,000.
Contact states the air bag light illuminated. Dealer repaired the problem numerous times, but after a short period of time, the air bag light came back on. Smoke emmitted form the vehicle's steering column at the flasher switch.
Intermittent problem: automatic driver seat does not respond when door is closed. Dome light will not go off and doors will not lock even when manually locked. Display shows door open message. When these features do work, there is an approx. 5 second delay. Local Ford dealership can't find the problem. Much money spent with no results. What can I do to fix this problem?.

I have electrical problems that act up only when they wanted to and the dealership is declining that they exist. I have had my car in for service for 3 weeks in the last month and they keep coming up with nothing. They also called me in and wanted to keep my car and have the service manager drive it for a few days -in which he only drove 37 miles, prior to that he and I drove the car to see if anything strange would happen and it did, which now they say nothing is wrong and they were unable to detect customer's concerns. I had a major dispute with them and had to call the police. Dims 11 ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis-----770757.
While starting vehicle dashboard indication lights/ air conditioner/ radio, and power windows worked intermittently due to an electrical short. After turning vehicle off and restarting, all function returned to normal. Dealer has been contacted. There was no lights at dashboard and no auto lamp. The power window and a/c failed. Am radio was inoperative. The power steering was very hard to turn.
Consumer stated at 17,000 miles, the engine overheated and failed to continue operating, dealership examined the vehicle and made the necessary repairs to remedy problem, then on 26-Sep-2001, engine was leaking oil from the right valve cover gasket which had to be replaced, also the water pump was leaking, the door ajar light on dashboard illuminated and would not go out leaving doors in the open position.
While driving the electrical system experienced severe failure which caused the vehicle to loose power brakes, power steering, turn signals and instruments on the dashboard, the dealership did not located the failure.
