Parking Brake problem #2

Note - Ford motor company suggested that I file a complaint with the NHTSA. The vehicle involved is a 2005 Ford Lincoln Ls - v6 - with approximately 79,000 miles. On February 2, 2009 my wife was driving the Ls when the emergency (parking) brake became engaged and slowed the car very rapidly in the middle of the highway. The brake would not disengage and she could not move the car. She tried several times to reset the emergency (parking) brake and it did not disengage. She than turned the car off and restarted at which time the emergency (parking) brake was disengaged. I drove the car the next day and had the same problem with the emergency (parking) brake becoming engaged when I was driving on a busy highway causing the car to come to a complete stop very rapidly. My wife was with me and she told me what she had done the previous day to disengage the brake. We took the car to the olathe Ford company service department in olathe, kansas. They told us they had a similar situation with another Ls the week before and knew how to fix the problem. We had to replace the dual coolant control value to stop the emergency (parking) brake problem. According to the service manager, the defect in the coolant control value caused the emergency (parking) brake to engage because it generated a "higher" frequency to the computer overriding the brake. I filed a concern with the Ford motor company. They were concerned and suggested that I file a complaint with NHTSA. My concern is with the emergency (parking) brake engaging for no reason while your driving the vehicle . This causes me concerns for the safety of my family and others.

Parking Brake problem #3

While driving suddenly the abs light, traction control light and the parking brake light came on. I immediately exited the freeway and pulled into a parking area and turned the car off. After calming my 87 year old mother down I restarted the car and none of the lights came on. I proceeded to start driving my car home and again all the lights came on. I contacted the dealer where I purchased my car and spoke to the service manager who informed me that they knew of this problem with the Lincolns and that I should bring it in which I did. I was informed that it would cost approx. $2,000. 00 to fix this problem because Lincoln only covers automobiles that are less than 10 years old or have less than 100k miles. My car has 109k but I feel that Lincoln should cover this since they have known about it long before my car had 100k miles and this is a very big safety hazard. I have taken excellent care of my car getting every oil change on time and each of the services that have been suggested. Lincoln has said they can't help me and the dealer says his hands are tied, what recourse do I have? also I have already had to have a new transmission put in my car.

Parking Brake problem #4

Abs light, parking brake and traction control light coming on and then going off; only to reappear again. At times, brakes are not properly working. Engine light will also sometimes appear to blink when this happens. I have called the Lincoln customer service and was told that all warranties ran out at 50,000 miles so this problem will not be covered. Also am having problems with the transmission. The car has 90k miles. The transmission was slipping under 50k miles but the dealership assured me that it was not a transmission problem and they reset something to do with the computer. It has only gotten worse. I did not insist that the transmission problem be fixed while under warranty because I was trusting that the dealership folks knew what they were talking about which is a lesson for me.

Parking Brake problem #5

The contact owns a 2005 Lincoln Ls. While driving 70 mph, the computer within the vehicle activated the emergency brake. The vehicle is equipped with a brake by wire system. The contact stated that all of the instrument panel lights illuminated and the security alarm sounded. He pulled off the road, shut off, and then restarted the vehicle. He took it to the dealer and they replaced a relay in the vehicle, however, the failure recurred two weeks later. He returned to the dealer, but they did not repair the vehicle a second time. The failure mileage was 8,000 and current mileage was 9,000. Updated 12-12-07. The consumer stated the parking brake activated on its own. It could only be released by stopping the vehicle and then turning it off. Updated.

Parking Brake problem #6

While driving, the warning lights on the dashboard suddenly illuminated, and the emergency brakes engaged within seconds. When this occurred the vehicle immediately went to a complete stop. The vehicle was flat bedded to the dealership, and indicated that this problem occurred because of a computer failure and the engineers are working on it. The vehicle has been at the dealership for 12 days, in which this failure has occurred 3 times whiles being test driven.
