Numerous random failures involving different computers within vehicle over 1-1/2 years, including failure and replacement of rack and pinion system. Brake system failure on 6/03/05 - abs computer was reprogrammed but they did not correct what caused corruption. Warned them of concern for my safety. July 10, 2005 went to turn steering wheel, but wheels didn't turn. Hit tree and totalled car. Ford ref #1451272954.

While driving at 65 mph consumer kept hearing a grinding/metal on metal sound coming from the front. The vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who informed the consumer that a new rack pinion steering assembly was needed. Manufacturer was aware of the problem. This was a common failure in the 2003 Ls after 11k miles.
Vehicle lost steering and went into an uncontrolable skid. Total vehicle's rotation was greater than 360 degrees. Crossed three lanes of interstate twice before contact with concrete highway barrier. Insurance has conducted an independent investigation and determined that steering components separated causing complete loss of steering. Left rear tire failed after loss of steering.
