3 Wheel problem of the 2003 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

When ever the car is driven any little bump or patch in the road has the car making a loud slam sound even worse going over any bump and even worse into turns. Also the wheel seems to pull at those times as well, this is on any street or highway while driving, feels very scary and unsafe. We don't have funds to fix this and it's been a problem only getting worse.

4 Wheel problem of the 2003 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

While driving this car on a highway or street any time it encounters small bumps the wheel turns and there's a loud slamming sound from the front passenger and driver side of the car. It's worse going into turns speed does not matter you can go slow or fast and the loud slamming sound is there. It feels very unsafe and dangerous. But me being a senior citizen with a son who as a disability we cannot afford to get this fixed our selves. It started a while ago but was not that bad but it just progressed and got worse. We need this car for doctors appointments and food shopping. We cant travel far for fear of being in a crash or being stranded.

5 Wheel problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 06/24/2014

Wheels were found to be delaminating and seperating at the base material level. All four wheels . One tire had the seal beed completely missing . Reorted to Lincoln / Ford same date . . . . They reported that this was not a quality problem and out of warrentee . Clearly this is a safty issue as it will allow the tire to come off the wheel and is an inherent defect in the manufacturing process.

6 Wheel problem of the 2001 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 01/11/2013

I am a 66 yr old widow, owner of a 2001 Ls purchased June 2001, a recall fix was to have been done before my purchase in March of 2001 to correct a problem with ball joints. I read online that many of these vehicles have the damage that was suppose to be corrected for when they get to about 67000 miles, I am at 67000 miles, took my car in for inspection and need an 1800 dollar fix to correct the issue that was suppose to be avoided by the recall. Ford said, too long ago, no warranty beyond the norm for recall fixes. I can not believe with the amount of evidence that these cars all require a fix at 67000 miles that Ford isn't forced to address this dangerous condition. I also don't know if it's safe to drive a while longer, I just don't know how they got away with a recall that did not provide the fix.

7 Wheel problem of the 2001 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 03/09/2012

I was driving my car, after driving home from work (approx. 70 miles round-trip). While turning I heard a loud crunch and then felt a hard thud, my vehicle was difficult to steer, felt another crunch. I pulled into a parking stall, after parking my vehicle, another loud crunch, the driver's side wheel had fallen off and was wedged into the wheel well. On March 12th, 2012 my repair facility informed me about the items that need replaced: upper and lower left front ball joints, front outer tier rod ends, new fuel filter- damaged in the incident, two new tires & an alignment. I realized how lucky I was that this did not occur while driving down the road. I conducted google search on 2001 Lincoln Ls suspension problems, I was stunned on the amount of safety related hits out there (suspension related), I realized that this was not isolated to just my vehicle, there were pages-of-pages of people that experienced similar suspension problems with their 2001 Lincolns. There was a suspension related recall: Lincoln / Ls 2000-2001, Ford motor company, date: Nov 01, 2000 NHTSA campaign id number: 00v359001 n/a NHTSA action number: n/a component: suspension: front: control arm: lower ball joint, number of affected: 82,300 summary: vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The front suspension lower ball joints were not tightened to specifications when they were attached to the lower control arms. Consequence: if the ball joint attaching nuts are not adequately tightened, they can loosen and, ultimately, result in fracture of the ball joint stud. If the ball joint fractures, control of the vehicle could be affected, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: dealers will inspect the torque on the two ball joint attaching nuts. Vehicles with loose ball joint attaching nuts will either have the fasteners tightened to specification, or if necessary, the ball joints will be replaced.

The dealer was notified of the failure and they informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 00v359001 (suspension: front: control arm: lower ball). There was also a manufacturer voluntary recall on the wheel rims but the VIN was ineligible. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. 11 Wheel problem of the 2002 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 08/17/2009

I have a 2002 Lincoln Ls. I noticed that there is a recall in place for 2003 chrome rims for Lincoln Ls for cracking wheels. I have the same symptoms as what is described in the 2003 recall. I have cracking in the well of the wheel on my car and around lug nuts on my vehicle. I contacted Lincoln to see if I could be included in this recall. Lincoln told me that I would have to submit the information to this. I would like to have this inspected because I have the same problems happening that the 2003 chrome rims have.

12 Wheel problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 12/12/2008

I have a repeated problem where excessive corrosion around the wheel rim causes a loss of tire pressure. I have to repeatedly have a mechanic grind and reseal the wheel rim. Bead sealer alone is ineffective due to the level of corrosion. I can lose 15 -20 lbs of pressure in an hour when this occurs. I have had two tires that have been damaged by a rapid loss of pressure. I am concerned to take the car on longer trips because I have to repeatedly check the tire pressure.

13 Wheel problem of the 2002 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 09/22/2008

The lug nuts on my 2002 Lincoln Ls have swelled on the lug posts and make it almost impossible to remove. The car went into service and I was phoned and informed by the Lincoln dealership that new lug nuts cost $100 for the car. Ford & Lincoln know of this problem but refuse to correct the problem. Is there any recourse through your organization.

14 Wheel problem of the 2005 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 08/05/2008

The left rear wheel/tire assembly failed to hold air. A local tire merchant said that this is caused by the chrome plating separating from the aluminum alloy wheel. The dealer and Lincoln-Mercury said that the failure was due to brake dust getting on the outside of the wheel. They claimed that this was not a defect in the product and refused a warranty claim. They were unable to explain how dust on the outside of the wheel could cause the surface inside the tire to fail and leak air until the tire was flat.

Informed dealer, they suggested new tires. Purchased new tires and problem reappeared. Dealer suggested tires had flatspot. Tire mfg. Suggested problem with wheels. Did a search for related problems such as this. Found that a recall was initiated for chrome wheels for 2003 model year, experiencing identical problems and safety issues. The car vibrates at highway speeds and have already lost a lugnut. Tire mfg. When replacing tires damaged a few lugnuts in attempting to remove them.

21 Wheel problem of the 2001 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 04/11/2001

2001 Lincoln Ls--front passenger wheel- there was alot of squeaking noises coming from the wheel before incident occurred. Yesterday, going through a drive-thru, I heard a pop. I got out and inspected the vehicle. The fender was resting on the tire. I called a tow truck and as he was trying to put the car on the tow truck, he showed me the damage. The bolt that holds the ball joint and control arm to the wheel came off. Please investigate this for me, and contact me when you find something out! thx.

22 Wheel problem of the 2000 Lincoln LS

Failure Date: 09/21/2000

My wife reported this incident yesterday, but without the v. I. N. Motor trend's car of the year had a major failure while I was driving, fortunately in a parking lot, at a very low speed. There was a spontaneous loss of control (there was no contact with anything else), followed by partial detachment of the front left wheel from the vehicle. This occurred as a result of fracture of a bolt securing the lower contol arm. The vehicle was rendered undriveable, as the wheel was turned 90 degrees. Obviously, a similar incident at a higher rate of speed would likely have resulted in major injury. I thought it was important to report this to you because, incredibly, it is Ford motor CO. 's policy not to do so automatically!.
