The brakes can quit working after the automatic parking brake release solenoid fails to release the rear brakes when the transmission lever is moved out of park. The rear brakes will then overheat after several miles, which causes the brake fluid to eventually boil and be expelled from the master cylinder. The first symptom is that the brake pedal goes almost all the way to the floor and braking becomes erratic. Shortly thereafter, the braking system totally failed to stop the car due to lack of brake fluid in the master cylinder. Pumping the brake pedal rapidly and sheer luck are the only things that have prevented a major crash (so far. . . )! the rear brake pads and fluid have been replaced, but there seems to be no fix available that would prevent the problem from re-occurring. This safety defect appears to be caused by the parking brake position sensor switch failing to notify the computer software that the parking brake is set,, so the controlling software doesn't bother to release the brake at drive-off. The warning light also fails to indicate a problem to the driver, which makes this a very dangerous combination of hardware and software failure after this problem happened to my wife twice, I began to drive the car to see what was happening. Sure enough, after a couple of days, the problem occurred exactly as described above. The only workaround is to use the emergency mechanical release before driving off. If one forgets to do this, there is no way of knowing that the rear brakes are dragging and impending brake failure is a certainty. .
The front suspension sinks down on the vehicle, causing the front to scrape on the ground. This is making the ability to drive difficult. Manufacturer was contacted by owner. The consumer stated that the main computer is failing.
The headlights that came standard on 1993-1996 Mark Viiis are not safe for public roads. They are probably the weakest headlights ever placed into a vehicle during the 1990s. Im surprised they even passed the dot regulations. The headlights provide very little lighting for the road and they do not even give enough light to the street signs so that they can be read legibly and easily. Driving on a poor lit road is impossible without turning on the high beams because other wise you become a hazard because of poor visibility. Ive been in countless near accidents due to the poor lights and because they barely light up the markers on the middle of the road. They either need to replaced with the hid units that are available, or at least improved drastically; otherwise the risk of having an accident with this car during the night increases at least 10 fold.
The keys are not available at any dealership or afternarket. Imagine losing your keys in a strange town. It took the dealer 5 days to replace the key they lost. As for the blend door, go to the site markviii. Org and there are many complaints about this componant that is only $30. 00 but costs $800. 00 to replace due to the labor to get at the part. With as many failures the dot needs to do something ASAP about this. Dt.
Gas gauge and electronic message center display erroneous fuel information that results in an unpredictable out-of-gas condition while operating the vehicle. Without warning the vehicle loses power and stalls with no power for acceleration and impaired braking and steering. This unexpected out-of-gas condition due to erroneous dashboard indicators places the vehicle, driver, and occupants in jeopardy of potential personal injury and property damage. This problem is similar to tsbs bc2303970501/item sb052799 and bc105799705/item sb052859. Most recent incident occurred on Dec 15, 2000 at highway speed on rte 64 at the rte 295 interchange with the fuel gauge reporting 1/4 tank of fuel when the out-of-gas condition unexpectedly occurred creating a dangerous lane changing condition with no vehicle power in an attempt to reach the shoulder. The brown's fairfax va dealership has made several unsuccessful attempts to service the problem and has failed to acknowledge the NHTSA tsbs on the fuel problem. The dealership misrepresented the service as correcting the problem and returned the vehicle with a known safety defect not properly repaired.
This device was repaired twice under warranty. Now that it failed again out of warranty (same type problem), I have to pay $255. 00 out of pocket to have it repaired. No safety defect listed in the summary.

Even in the slightest amount of snow, the vehicle fails to have any traction. This is regardless of the traction control. It appears that the large high torque engine combined with the rear wheel drive and minimal rear weight causes this problem.
Keyless entry system failed.
I can not get the history on this car for the time period 12/98 to 5/2000, can you advise me?no safety defect listed in summary.
